The Monthly Hufflepuff: February and March

*insert intro about how time flies blabla sorry I have no inspiration for a fun intro so this will have to do*

Basically I read a lot of comics again.

Since I read so many comics I’m doing really well on my Goodreads Challenge. I’m 51 books ahead of schedule lmao.

Other than that? I haven’t made any progress but it’s not like I expected that since I barely blogged and wrote.

This feels a bit odd since it’s already the middle of April, but hey let’s talk about April! Right now I have less than 11 weeks left until Summer break and I’m so ready. So looking forward to that even though that more a next next month (or next next next? I have no idea). April means Doctor Who will be back though! I’m so excited for Bill (BLACK LESBIAN COMPANION) and I can’t wait to get to know her better (and I’m also glad that this will be Moffat’s last season #sorrynotsorry)

QUESTION: how do you pronounce lmao? When you’re reading I mean. I pronounce it as ‘luh-maa-ooh’. Who’s with me? Who’s against me? Kidding you’re not against me if you pronounce it differently. Are you? Let’s not fight about this okay it’s ‘luh-maa-ooh’.

The Monthly Hufflepuff: January

How is it February already what even. Also… HI I’M ALIVE. I wanted to post a lot more during January, even though I didn’t expect that I would be able to with all the assignments and my exam. The thing is, I actually could’ve blogged. All that time I spend binge-ing Jane the Virgin? I could’ve used it to blog. But I’m afraid I’ve hit a slump guys. I did want to blog, but I also didn’t? I was too tired, unmotivated and I decided that I’d rather read, watch tv shows and movies and play Pokemon instead of blog. But as you can see, I’m blogging now! Hurray. I hope that this term is going to be different. Not that it’s going to be less busy, definitely not. But I’m going to plan. I’m going to be on top of things. Things probably won’t go as planned, but I’ll definitely try.

I’m also super behind on replying to everyone’s comments – really sorry about that. And I haven’t read any blogposts in a while, so I definitely have some catching up to do. I haven’t forgotten about you guys!

whatiread

As you can see I read a lot of comics again. I wouldn’t say I’m in a reading slump per se, but I’ve just been in the mood to read lots of comics lately.

2017goals

Well, let’s see how I did? Spoiler: badly

The only reading goal I set myself this year is the Goodreads Reading Challenge. Once again I’m aiming to read 100 books. So far 25 and am 17 books ahead of schedule. Bless comics.

Other than that I set myself some writing and blogging goals. Did I write? No. Did I blog? Barely. Did I accomplish any goals? Or at least work on them? Nope.

what I posted-2

nextmonth

I’m more excited about this term, since most of the classes seem more fun. I don’t really have anything to look forward to this February though. Maybe there are some exciting books coming out, but I wouldn’t know since I’m not keeping up with new releases at all. I’m much more excited for March, since I’ll be seeing Busted live! And Beauty and the Beast will finally come out!

So how has your January been? CATCH ME UP GUYS WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO

The Monthly Hufflepuff: December

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I know we’re all glad 2016 is gone, but boy is 2017 off to a bad start. I hope everyone in Istanbul is safe!

Since it’s Sunday I’ll also be doing a weekly wrap up.

whatiread

This month I read a lot of comics and manga, since I had a huge slump and couldn’t read anything else. Beautifully Broken Things really got me out of it though! But I didn’t read that until the end of the month haha

personal

Yesterday I went to a cat cafe with my friends which was a lot of fun though now I am dead because THE KITTIES WERE SO CUTE. I’ll (hopefully) write a Blogsterdam post on it soon. It was also good to see my friends, because I haven’t seen either of them since the Summer.

I also helped at children’s ‘festival’ at work this week (I work at a museum) and it was adorable. Though also exhausting. The kids killed me.

I SAW MOANA AND IT WAS AMAZING. GO SEE IT IF YOU HAVEN’T YET.

I celebrated all the holidays of course, which was fun. I usually go into a lot more detail, but honestly I’m tired and a friend is coming over in less than two hours so I should hurry up haha. My nephew got his first Pokemon game though so while I’m really happy about that, it also means I have to help him out a lot. But I’m flattered that he thinks I’m The Pokemon Master™ which I am obviously.

writing-3

I actually wrote last week! Around 1500 words even. Hopefully I’ll have more time to write soon. I can write during my break, but I should really start with my schoolwork woops.

The project I worked on isn’t one I’ve mentioned on here before, but I’m really excited about it. I should really work out the idea more, build the characters and world and such, plot etc. before I continue writing though, because I have no idea where it’s headed.

2016goals

Oh boy. Let’s take a look shall we?

WRITING GOALS

  • Finish The Army of Quermo
  • Finish interviewing my grandfather for his biography
  • Write more in general
  • Work on another project that I’ve never talked about on here

Okay so I didn’t finish The Army of Quermo. IN FACT. I’m going to rewrite it *manical laughter because help me* I also started TWO other WIPs *whispers seriously help me* and I don’t think I really worked on that *secret* project woops. I DID write. Quite a lot actually, especially compared to other years. I even won Camp NaNo. So I didn’t fail, I just didn’t accomplish the goals 2015 me wanted me to accomplish.

BLOGGING GOALS

  • Keep up posting a Discussing Hufflepuff every month
  • Post a Blogsterdam every month
  • Be more active on Twitter
  • Be more active on Instagram
  • Write the last two posts about my trip to America
  • Edit old posts
  • Schedule posts before school starts

I think I was kind of active on Twitter? Definitely not on Instagram. Except during the Summer! I thought that was it, the turning point. Finally I was going to regularly post on Instagram *manical laughter*. Posting a Discussing Hufflepuff and Blogsterdam every month?? *more manical laughter* BUT HEY I FINALLY WROTE THE LAST TWO POSTS ABOUT MY TRIP TO AMERICA ONE YEAR LATER. And I edited old posts so.. Not a complete failure. Though I’ve definitely failed at scheduling last year.

SERIES CHALLENGE

  • Geek Girl: (2/3)
  • Also Known As: (1/2)
  • Hex Hall: (1/3)
  • Princess Academy: (1/3)
  • The Grisha Trilogy: (2/3)

Geek Girl has more books out now I believe woops. BUT I DID READ TWO BOOKS FOR THIS CHALLENGE. The problem is that I’m not sure I even want to continue all of this series? Most of them aren’t really a priority really. I do want to finish The Grisha trilogy (come on, one book left. I can do this) and I love Geek Girl, so I’ll continue that one. The others I’m not so sure of.

YALFESTNL CHALLENGE

  • Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda
  • The Shatter Me Trilogy: (1/3)
  • Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children: (3/3)

I could’ve completed this one. I could’ve won. But I don’t own the other Shatter Me books and honestly while I did enjoy Shatter Me at the time, I don’t feel the urge to read the rest of the series? Maybe one day though.

RETELLING CHALLENGE

I’m participating again in Mel’s (Fairytale) Retelling Challenge! I kind of failed last year, but it was fun nonetheless! This year I’ll be aiming for the Goose Girl level, which means reading 5-9 books.

  • A Thousand Nights by E.K. Johnston ✓
  • Fairest by Marissa Meyer
  • Stars Above by Marissa Meyer ✓
  • Heartless by Marissa Meyer
  • The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury
  • A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro
  • Return to the Isle of the Lost by Melissa de la Cruz
  • Nora and Kettle by Lauren Nicolle Taylor
  • Uprooted by Naomi Novak ✓
  • Politically Correct Bedtime Stories by James Finn Garner ✓

Please tell me there’s another book I read that counts as a retelling because seriously I’m one book short of winning. Nope I didn’t. Oh well.

THE 2016 CONTEMPORARY CHALLENGE

This year I’m also signing up for The 2016 Contemporary Challenge hosted by Jillian and Montana. I won’t pick out any books in advance for this one, as there are always contemporaries I want to read! I’ll be aiming for Peony: 11-15 books.

Read: (8/11)

Three more books and I could’ve won. Oh well.

CLASSICS CHALLENGE

  • Persuasion
  • Northanger Abbey
  • Emma
  • Mansfield Park
  • Sylvie and Bruno
  • The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
  • The Lord of the Rings: Read (1/3)
  • Les Misérables

I READ ONE. I AM SO PROUD OF MYSELF. I SET THIS EXACT SAME CHALLENGE FOR 2015 AND I READ NONE. THIS IS PROGRESS. ONE DAY I SHALL READ ALL THE CLASSICS ON MY SHELVES (and other classics too).

Honestly, besides the Goodreads Challenge I won’t be setting myself any reading goals this year. It didn’t really work for me and it just gave me more stress and pressure which isn’t what I need. I do think I’m going to set myself some writing goals and maybe blogging goals too. We’ll see.

what I posted-2

elsewhere

I’ve started to catch up on some posts (slowly) so let’s see what I’ve got to share!

nextmonth

SHADOWHUNTERS. SHADOWHUNTERS SEASON 2 AAAAAAH. FINALLY. I CAN’T WAIT. I’m planning on reviewing the episodes weekly, so hopefully school won’t get in the way of that. I do have lots of assignments and a tough exam ahead, so I don’t know how much I’ll be able to blog. I’m definitely going to try to blog regularly again though. I have some reviews to catch up on, two Blogsterdam posts to write, Discussing Hufflepuff ideas and so many other things to write!

How was your December? Did you accomplish all your goals for 2016? Let me know in the comments!

The Monthly Hufflepuff: September, October and Oh My God November Too?!

Yes I missed three monthly wrap ups. Woops. BUT HEY LOOK WHO’S BLOGGING. This new term has been crazy as well. And it’s note even over yet. EEK. But now it’s winter break so hopefully I’ll be able to blog a bit. I also have a lot of school work and I need to relax, since I’m going to need a lot of energy after the break. I’m not even going to utter my hopes for next term in regards to blogging. We’ll just have to see and wait!

whatiread

What did I read during these three months in which you barely heard from me? Looking back September was a really bad month. I only finished The Raven King, but I did have a concussion, so that explains that.

Well, not bad! I did hit a huge slump during these months, but comics helped me through it. Also look at those ratings! Let’s end 2016 this way.

2016goals

I COMPLETELY FORGOT I HAD GOALS FOR THIS YEAR UNTIL A FEW DAYS AGO. So let’s see which ones I unawaringly completed (probably none, but hey, maybe I’m getting closer?)

  • I didn’t write at all during these months. No time at all. I did write today though! But it’s December so that doesn’t count for this wrap up
  • Let’s just completely skip my blogging goals okay
  • OH HEY! I READ A BOOK FOR MY SERIES CHALLENGE! Siege and Storm – woo go me!
  • And I read two books for my contemporary challenge *shoulder clap*

Seriously though, I don’t think I’ll set myself any challenges/goals for next year. They don’t really help and they only pressure me, until I entirely forget about them.

personal

I usually don’t do this section in my monthly wrap ups since I cover it in my weekly wrap ups, but there haven’t really been any weekly wrap ups so… Also I need to fill the empty space of ‘what I posted’ since I didn’t post anything.

I did do a weekly wrap up last month (oh and I forgot, but I did post something after that that I can share: What I’d Change In Winx Club (Besides Making it Gay) but some stuff happened after that! I don’t remember what! But I’m sure stuff happened.

Basically I’ve been busy with school – in my last wrap up I talked about how I wasn’t looking forward to the term, and it’s really not a fun one. Shout out to my friend for keeping me sane during this term. Apart from that I’ve wasted my time on tv shows I guess? And comics. I read a lot of comics, especially this month.

Is anyone else obsessed with Yuri on Ice? Please? I need season 2 like asap. Speaking of season 2… SHADOWHUNTERS. I’m going to try and review the episodes every week, so fingers crossed I’ll have the time. I had a lot of fun last season and it made me love the show even more.

Of course Christmas happened but I’m not wrapping up December so I’ll leave that for later.

nextmonth

Technically I should talk about December here, but um… There are only a few days left so let’s not. Next month is January, which is 2017. What the hell. 2017 better be good. Or just better than 2016.  Like it won’t take that much to be better than 2016. Give us a break 2017. Please

GUYS. WHAT HAVE I MISSED. BRING ME UP TO DATE. LET ME KNOW. I MISSED YOU GUYS

The Monthly Hufflepuff: August

What the hell why am I wrapping up August already and why am I not on the Hogwarts Express right now

whatiread

Bless Goodreads for existing because I barely remember what I read this month

writing-3

While I didn’t write as much as during July, I did write quite a bit, not to mention plan, write outlines, worldbuilding etc. I didn’t really work much on my still unnamed contemporary that was my Camp NaNo project, but I did work on The Chosen Ones. I’d share some snippets but honestly it’s such a mess and while I like where it’s going now and what I’ve written lately, I want to rewrite it woops.

Also I cancelled last week’s Young Writers Chat because I wasn’t feeling well, and honestly while I didn’t say anything about it yet on Twitter I’m going to have to cancel this week’s as well. I’m just super tired and not motivated :/ I haven’t really been motivated to blog/read other people’s blogs either. So hopefully there will be another chat next Saturday.

2016goals

Right, I set myself some goals for this years.

  • I set myself the challenge to read the classics on my shelves for 2015, I didn’t read any of them. So I set myself the challenge again this year, and I finally read Persuasion. Whatever happens the rest of the year, at least I won’t fail this challenge entirely lol
  • With Wink Poppy Midnight I read 5 books for The Contemporary Challenge. I’m aiming for at least 11 books, so I’m pretty behind
  • I scheduled posts before school starts yay! There are still posts left that I want to schedule, but I’m already quite satisfied with what I did
  • I finally wrote the last two posts about my trip to Orlando
  • And while I haven’t finished The Army of Quermo, I did work on it

what I posted-2

nextmonth

I only have a few days of Summer holidays left, so I expect to be really busy when school starts. Like I said, I do have some posts scheduled. I think I have at least 3 every week this month? I’m not entirely sure.

How has your month been? Read any good books? Did anything fun? Let me know in the comments!

The Weekly (#38) and Monthly Hufflepuff: July

I’m combining wrap ups again! Also I didn’t really mean to skip two weekly wrap ups, it just happened. Though yesterday was a bit intentional, since I wanted to focus on Camp NaNo. I could’ve posted after that, but I was exhausted (more on that later). Anyway, let’s wrap these past two weeks and actually the last month up!

whatiread

I could’ve read so much more this month, but I had quite a few days where I didn’t feel well mentally so I just didn’t feel like reading. Quality wise it was a pretty good month though! (quality over quantity right?)

  • The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater ★★★★★
  • The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater ★★★★★
  • The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde
  • The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness ★★★★
  • The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye ★★★

By now I’ve also reviewed most of the books I wanted to review from last month (Uprooted is coming up this week and if everything goes to plan I’ll schedule The Hidden Oracle for next week). I’ve already written my review for The Crown’s Game, so that will be posted soon as well (still torn about my rating. I’m leaning more towards 2.5 stars to be honest). I don’t think I’m going to review the first three

personal

I had my ups and downs these past two weeks (actually, more like last week, this past week was pretty good actually), but I had a good talk with my mom the Saturday before last and then she dragged me off to see Finding Dory (my cousin told me that there was no shark in it so it was safe for me to see – I’m terrified of sharks and thus haven’t seen the prequel). Though Zootopia is still my favourite movie of the year, I really enjoyed it.

I also met up with a friend who slept over at my house. We caught up, took a lot of pictures, caught up on Pretty Little Liars (we watch it together, so because of school we were pretty behind) and went to the park the next day since the weather was nice. Oh and my grandpa was my filter victim again

IMG_2582IMG_2588

Oh and last time I did a wrap up I only had Pikachu in Pokemon Go – boy has that changed. Here are some pictures of Pokemon I caught:

pokemongo

If you follow me on Twitter you may have read about how Squirtle showed up in my living room and that the game froze before I could catch it *cries* BUT I ran into another one a few days later and managed to catch that one (I didn’t take a picture because I was too anxious that it would run away/the game would freeze again). And yes that Psyduck appeared at the toilet lol

I did a swap box with Em in which we sent each other stuff from each other countries, and hers arrived. I really love everything she sent me. I’ve already started colouring a bit and I can’t wait to try the chocolate and beans (I wanted to take a picture before I ate everything, but I was lazy. Also I didn’t want to open the beans because of the lovely message). I’ll save the instant hot chocolate for when the weather has cooled down (while it hasn’t always been sunny, it has been warm these past two weeks! Finally).

img_2578kopie

I’ve also been watching quite some shows these past two weeks, even though I’m behind on some. The Fosters has been great as usual, and I started watching Jane The Virgin (I’m at episode 18 of season 1, no spoilers please!) and I LOVE it. I convinced my mom to watch it as well (wasn’t too hard actually haha) and she’s addicted as well. She’s almost caught up with me and she only started yesterday. I need to hurry up because I’m afraid that I’ll get spoiled by walking in on her watching an episode I haven’t seen yet. But seriously if you aren’t yet, start watching it.

A bunch of other stuff probably happened as well, but my memory is fuzzy. So I’m leaving it at this haha. Oh yeah I went to the beach with my mom haha. See, I almost forgot this happened. I’m not a big fan of the beach (I loathe sand) but it was still a nice day and I took plenty of pretty pictures (so far only two have made it onto my Instagram because I’m slow)

writing-3

Like I said before, I didn’t post yesterday because I wanted to focus on Camp NaNo. Unless you follow me on Twitter and/or Snapchat (writingmichelle), you might be curious about how it went. Well…

campnano16

Like I said before, I had days where I didn’t feel well mentally this month, plus days where I was just tired and lazy and of course days where I went out so I didn’t have time to write. I honestly didn’t think I was going to make it, but during the weekend I had set my mind to it and well… I DID IT! I’m really proud and hope to continue writing like this. To celebrate I’ll be sharing several snippets later today.

It’s far from finished and it’s not polished at all since it’s a first draft, but I’m just so happy. Last month I had about 2000 words and no idea where I was even going with this story, and now I’ve written a little more than 25.000 words, an outline and plenty ideas. Plus I’ve gotten to know the characters so much better this month. Definitely a successful month.

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who participated in the Young Writers Chat so far. You guys made it so worth it and I’ve had so much fun meeting you all and talking to you about our passion that is writing. This week’s theme will once again be decided by voting, so please RT and vote:

2016goals

  • I have read 59 out of 100 books for my Goodreads Challenge (help I’m only 1 book ahead now I’m scared)
  • Well, one of my goals was to write more in general and that I did (but I didn’t work on any of the projects I meant to work on woops)
  • While I posted two Discussing Hufflepuffs in June, I didn’t post any again this month. Honestly I thought I still had some time left to do so?? What happened to July *cue hysterical laughter*
  • On the other hand, I did post a Blogsterdam one again and posted a Q&A announcement! I’m also really excited to post this month’s so fingers crossed that I’ll get around to it
  • Okay so this was technically last month, but I didn’t realise it. Politically Correct Bedtime Stories by James Finn Garner is full with fairytale retellings. I’m aiming for 5-9 books for my Retelling Challenge, so I’m only one away from winning!

what I posted-2

elsewhere

SURPRISE! I’m behind again *sigh* Hopefully I’ll be able to catch up a bit today (I also want to schedule some posts so we’ll see how that goes). Let’s see what I can share with you guys, shall we?

Phew, I was afraid I wouldn’t have much to share, but apparently I read more than I could remember haha. I’m still super behind though. Part of me is annoyed that Bloglovin no longer shows you how many posts there are in your feed when there are more than 20, but the other part of me is relieved (there are also the WordPress blogs that don’t have Bloglovin of course. I’m really behind on those too). Anyway, me being behind is nothing new anymore. I really wish I could go back to being entirely caught up every day again, but I have to remind myself that I follow more blogs than I did when I first started out and that I shouldn’t stress over this.

nextmonth

My last full month of freedom! I just had a deja-vu. Did I write the exact same thing in last year’s July wrap up when talking about August? Possibly. Anyway, I want to make the most of my freedom this month, but also not wear myself out. What’s the point of being on break when you’re exhausted on the first day of school because of all the stuff you did during the Summer? I am planning on blogging a lot, particularly scheduling a lot of posts at least during September. I don’t know yet how busy I’ll be (I know my schedule this Thursday eek!) but I like to have some posts ready just in case.

Also, just in case, a plea: I have no idea why you’d do this if I don’t mention The Cursed Child in my posts, but still just in case: PLEASE DON’T SPOIL ME. I won’t be getting the book until October, since that’s when I’ll see the play. I feel like it’s going to be really difficult to stay clear off spoilers, but so far it’s worked (it’s only been a day but still). Mainly I’m staying off Tumblr.

Woah, that was a big post. How has your month been? What was the best book you read? How many Pokemon have you caught? Let me know in the comments!

The Monthly Hufflepuff: June

Wait what no why am I wrapping up June already *start denial mode*

whatiread

  • All The What Ifs by Angela Lynn ★★★
  • Introductions by C.L. Stone ★
  • Uprooted by Naomi Novik ★★★
  • Forever by Eric Marier ★
  • The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan ★★★★★
  • Renoir by David Spence
  • Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness ★★★★★
  • The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson ★★★★
  • Politically Correct Bedtime Stories by James Finn Garner

Much better than last month! I absolutely loved The Hidden Oracle and Monsters of Men, along with The Unexpected Everything they definitely made up for some of the lesser stories. I’ve already reviewed Introductions, my mini reviews for All The What Ifs and Forever will be published tomorrow. I won’t be reviewing Renoir, since it’s a really short art book, nor will I review Politically Correct Bedtime Stories. I still need to write my reviews for Uprooted and The Unexpected Everything, and I might review the entire Chaos Walking trilogy together, though honestly I have no idea how I’m going to review it. JUST READ IT

2016goals

  • I HAVE been writing. I just haven’t been working on what I planned – oops. But ay one of my goals was to just write more in general, sooo
  • I posted two Discussing Hufflepuffs, to make up for some missed ones
  • I was pretty active on Twitter this month. Instagram not so much
  • I’ve been editing some old posts
  • I read The Unexpected Everything for my contemporary challenge

what I posted-2

nextmonth

I have a lot of plans for this Summer, but so far I haven’t been doing much (though I have been writing, reading and blogging!). One of my friends is done with school today, another has her graduation coming up next week and I’m meeting up with another one on Sunday. My mom should be off from work soon as well, so I hope to do a lot of fun stuff OUTSIDE of the house, because as much as I love to write, blog and read, I really need to get out haha.

AND OF COURSE THE CURSED CHILD IS COMING OUT THIS MONTH. Please don’t forget to #keepthesecrets guys. Not everyone has the chance to read it immediately or they choose not to read it until they’ve seen the play (like me. Please don’t spoil me). AND OF COURSE CAMP NANO HAS STARTED TODAY. Thus why I scheduled this post. So that I’m hopefully writing haha (*whispers* help)

How has your month been? I’m surprised at how much I’ve posted considering I was still on hiatus during the first half of the month haha. Any exciting plans? Are you participating in Camp Nano? Let me know in the comments!
