The School Book Tag

Thank you Eve for tagging me! If you’re not familiar with Eve’s awesome blog go check it out now. I haven’t done a tag in ages, but since I’m trying to get back into scheduling posts, what better way to start than with tags? SO LET’S DO THIS.

a book that has two characters who equal perfection

© Viria

© Viria

Hmm what (bro)tp to go with today? You know, I haven’t gushed about Percabeth in a long time and they remain one of my favourite book couples. They have a healthy, cute relationship and the build-up was A+

a book I would like to dissect

I dunno Les Mis maybe? GUYS DID I MENTION I FINALLY, AFTER FOUR YEARS OR SO OF IT BEING ON MY SHELF, STARTED LES MIS? Cause I did. I’m only like ten pages in but liking it so far. Since I’m not that far in yet I don’t know if I would like to dissect it, but since it’s huge and has a lot of characters I think it would be a great choice to dissect *nods*

a book with a lot of potential

I’m going with a book I haven’t read yet. There are SO many though, but I recently bought Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin Talley and it sounds amazing. Definitely has a lot of potential so I hope it won’t let me down.

a book I really bonded to

The Perks of Being a Wallflower hands down. I definitely bonded to Harry Potter as well, but I felt that was a bit of a cliché answer haha. I relate so much to Charlie and I love this book so much. Damn, I need a reread.

a book that should be a modern classic

Aaaah okay I don’t like giving the same answer twice but… The Perks of Being a Wallflower. It is so well-written and such an important book. It definitely should be a modern classic.

a book that I raced to the finish with

While I didn’t finish it within a day or anything (because school yay) the last book that I raced to finish was Magnus Chase and the Hammer of Thor (which I really need to review).

a book that reminds me of a song

Hmm I’m not sure? I do have songs that reminds me of books, but not really the other way around. So I’m going to be boring and not choose an answer here

I’ll be tagging: Lia | Kwante | Hannah

Don’t feel obligated to do this!

What book reminds YOU of a song? And what’s your favourite subject and why? Let me know in the comments!

The Totally Should’ve Book Tag

Thank you Kayleigh, Makayla and Calliope for tagging me! Go check out all their blogs guys. I’m kind of worried that I won’t be able to come up with answers for all of these, but we’ll see haha.

1) A book that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE had a sequel

My mind is already going blank help. OH CARRY ON. But I don’t just want a sequel. I want prequels too since this takes place in their final year. And then a sequel. I don’t care if it’s just Simon, Baz and Penny hanging out. I need it.

2) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE had a Spin-Off series

Okay but, does it surprise anyone when I say Harry Potter? Because I’m still waiting for a Marauders book series.

3) An author who TOTALLY SHOULD write more books

All of them. Okay not all of them but all my faves. Also it’s time for Rainbow Rowell to publish another book *hint hint* And what is Stephen Chbosky doing? I know Francesca Zappia is writing and hopefully a new book will be out soon. J.K. Rowling and Rick Riordan are busy writing (bless Uncle Rick for bringing out two books every year). Seriously I want more books from all my faves, though I don’t except Rick Riordan to write even MORE every year. The poor man deserves a break.

4) A character who TOTALLY SHOULD’VE ended up with someone else

Whoever that girl was that ended up with Aspen (I forgot her name sorry). She was a cinnamon role and I hate Aspen with a passion. She deserved better (I can’t think of other ships that I didn’t agree with haha)

5) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE ended differently

The Maze Runner trilogy sort of? OH THAT REMINDS ME OF A BETTER OPTION FOR QUESTION 4. BUT SPOILERS. I’M SO PISSED ABOUT IT. Okay spoiler in white: Newt and Teresa deserved better, and Thomas should’ve ended up with one of them #TeamThomesa #TeamNewtMas not #ThomasandBrendaWhateverTheirShipNameIsWhoCaresNotMe Why did two rounded, interesting characters have to die and why did Brenda-I’m-Only-Here-To-Establish-A-Love-Triangle-Wait-What’s-Her-Last-Name get to live

6) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE had a movie franchise

Percy Jackson. What do you mean there are already PJ movies? Hahaha don’t be silly those don’t exist outside of our nightmares*

* No offence to the cast especially Logan Lerman and to the people who enjoyed the movies

7) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE had a TV show

HARRY POTTER. Harry PotterHarry Potter. And did I mention Harry Potter? They would be able to include SO MUCH MORE if they made it into a tv show. I mean I love the cast, but I need this. I mean obviously I’d also be terrified if they did this but still. I NEED IT.

8) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE only have one point of view

Uuuh I have no idea help

9) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE had a cover change

The Parasol Protectorate series.

I’m just not a fan of these covers. BUT I LOVE THESE BOOKS SO MUCH. Maybe I should do a reread so I can write a post on why you should read these too (they would also make a fab tv show by the way)

10) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE kept the original covers

I really don’t have an answer for this one

11) A series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE stopped at book #1

I can’t think of any, so I’m going to steal Kayleigh’s answer and say that The Selection should’ve stopped after The One. I still haven’t read the last two, but I also don’t really have the motivation. The story was over. It was nicely wrapped up. There was no need for more books. I don’t think I’ve heard anything positive about the last two either.

Aaand I won’t be tagging anyone specific again. I’m really sorry, but I’m lazy and looking up who to tag takes quite some time and I’m just trying to get as many posts scheduled as I can (I’m writing this in August. AUGUST. This will go up in October. I’m so proud of myself) but if you want to do this consider yourself tagged!

What are some of your answers to these? What is a tv show or movie adaptation you really want to see? Let me know in the comments!

Around The World In YA Books Tag

Thank you Cátia for tagging me and sorry that it took me like a year to do this. If you haven’t yet, check out her blog!

The Rules

List a country, and then show which favourite book of yours is set in that country. You can use the countries I have used, add your own, or use completely different ones!

How can I not go with Anna and the French Kiss? Speaking of which, it’s time for a reread… Though of course I could also go with Scarlet, another favourite, though I feel more like I’m in France while reading Anna then while reading Scarlet.

I recently read Anne of Green Gables, and while I didn’t think I would like it at first since the beginning was pretty slow, I fell in love.

Like Cátia, I’m going with Cinder. Sadly I haven’t read that many books set in China (if any besides Cinder? My memory is terrible), but this one is also one of my favourites of course.

I could be original and not go with Harry Potter, but where’s the fun in that?

Harriet goes to Japan in Model Misfit and it’s GLORIOUS. I love Japan and it really felt like I was there with Harriet. I love Harriet, her story and the supporting characters by themselves, but in Japan? Sign me up

Okay so I won’t tag anyone specific again, so if you want to do this, feel free to do so! What is a country you want more YA books set in? Let me know in the comments!

The Real Neat And Really Late Blog Award

Thank you Holly, Jesse, Rachel and The Jouska for tagging me! Also sorry to the first three that it took me this long. And don’t forget to check out all their blogs!

The rules

  1. Thank and link the blogger who nominated you.
  2. Answer the 7 questions the nomination has provided.
  3. Nominate 7 other bloggers.
  4. Create 7 questions for your nominees.

Sorry but I’m lazy 🙈

Holly’s questions

1. Who is your celebrity idol at the moment?

Ooh that has to be Dove Cameron. She’s such a sweet and inspiring person, yet also incredibly talented.

2. What book would you recommend your celebrity idol?

Oh I actually don’t know! If she hasn’t read The Perks of Being a Wallflower yet, maybe that one. I’d recommend that to almost everyone, but I also think she’d really love it.

3. What Hogwarts House would you be sorted into?

4. If you could go anywhere in the world for a week-long vacation, where would you go?

EVERYWHERE. Okay but seriously, like I said before in one of these tag posts, I really want to go to Japan. I think I’d need at least a week to explore Tokyo so let’s go with that one haha.

5. What is your favourite month of the year?

Hmm June maybe? It’s the end of the school year, it’s not that hot yet, summer holidays are around the corner, it’s my birthday month, other family members and friends have their birthday in this month as well, which means I’ll definitely see them and other family members… Yeah I’m going with June.

6. Would you rather only be able to read for the rest of your life or write?

7. What book are you currently reading?

Ooh tough one since this will be scheduled. As I’m writing this at the end of August I’m reading Persuasion by Jane Austen and rereading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Who knows what I’m reading once you’re reading this post. Maybe nothing because of school.

Jesse’s questions:

1. You’ve committed a crime and are going to jail for life. The judge allows you to bring three books with you and those are the only three books you’ll be reading for the rest of your life. Which three are they?

Oh my God what did I do did I murder someone? Uh okay so I’ll bring Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (though hopefully they’ve published all the books into one book by the time I’m going to jail so I can cheat – this cheating attitude is what will land me in jail isn’t it), The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Carry On.

2. You’ve been in a relationship with your man/women and things are getting serious, but out of the blue they ask you to choose them or your books. Which do you choose and why?

I don’t even want to be with a person who makes you choose between them and something you love??

3. You’re being held at gun point but the shooter says he will set you free if you burn three of your books. Which three would you choose?

I want to know the backstory of this shooter. Does he just break into people’s houses and make them burn some of their books? Why? Does he have some kind of vendetta against books? I’m seriously intrigued. The books that I didn’t enjoy recently are so pretty though: Uprooted, A Thousand Nights and The Crown’s Game. They’re all gorgeous hardbacks whyyyy.

4. There is a new law coming into effect. It bans (insert genre here) genre from ever being read/written again. Which genre would you choose?

Okay but I’d feel bad because there are people who love and enjoy every genre. I personally will never pick up erotica, so if I HAD to choose, like that shooter from question 3 comes back, I’d choose that, but I’d feel bad for the people who enjoy it.

5. With wanting more diversity in books nowadays, what is one aspect you believe should be represented more and why?

There just should be more non-white and non-straight characters for starters. Oh and we need more HEALTHY relationships

6. Your favourite author is going to call you for a once in a lifetime chance to talk. You can only ask them one question. Who is the author and what is the question? Why?

7. Hero, Assassin, or Prince/Princess? You can only pick one. Which do you choose to be in a story with you as the main character?

Hero I guess? I would definitely not want to kill people for a living and being a princess would be boring. Though heroes sometimes have to kill too and I don’t want that. ADVENTURE THOUGH

Rachel’s questions:

1. Do you have a favourite reading spot?

My bed, maybe. It doesn’t matter though. As long as I can read and am at least a bit comfy.

2. Are there any movie/TV adaptations you like more than the book?

Okay so this is an unpopular one, but I really think I prefer Shadowhunters over the books? I know they’re not perfect, but the books are quite problematic. They’ll always have a special place in my heart and they were fun to read, but I really love the show more than the books

3. What was your favourite book as a kid?

Ooh that changed all the time, but one of them was definitely Pluk van de Petteflet, a Dutch children’s book. It’s been translated into English as ‘Tow-Truck Pluck’

4. Do you make/listen to book playlists?

I used to listen to them, but 8tracks now only works through Youtube for me and A LOT of songs are skipped because of this, so I can’t listen to them anymore (#RIP8tracks I miss the site you used to be). The playlists I make are for my own books

5. Do you have an favourite publishers?

Not really, I never really pay attention to the publisher

6. What do love most about blogging?

Meeting so many lovely people and making friends for life <3

7. Shelfie?

The Jouska’s questions:

1. What’s the story behind your blog name?

I love to write and I’m a Hufflepuff

2. Do you plan your posts before writing them or are you more spontaneous?

Sometimes I plan them, like when I wrote my Kpop Songs That Make Me Want To Write All The Things posts, in that I chose the songs beforehand or with my Bookish Pop Funkos I Need in My Life post I thought up which characters I’d like to see as Pop Funkos before writing it, but usually I’m more spontaneous.

3. Is there any book that you could read over and over again without getting bored?

The Harry Potter books of course, but also The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Percy Jackson, The Heroes of Olympus, Fangirl, Carry On, Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door.

4. Who’s your favorite Talk Show host?

Graham Norton

5. Would you rather read the book first and then watch the movie or vice versa?

Read the book first! Though of course sometimes it happens the other way around. Like with Percy Jackson; I had no idea it was a book when I saw the first movie at the cinema. See, the movies are good for something

6. Have you ever gotten the opportunity to meet your idol? (It can be anybody, a celebrity, author, singer, and so on.)

7. How many languages can you speak?

Dutch and English. I recently removed Spanish from my resume because who am I kidding. I’ve forgotten most of it since I took my final Spanish exam.

Sooo if a shooter made you burn three books, which ones would you choose? Let me know in the comments!

It’s Time for ANOTHER Late Award: The One Lovely Blog Award

Thank you Samantha for tagging me and sorry it took me so long! When this goes up it will have been roughly a year – oops. Anyway, if you haven’t yet, go check out her lovely blog!

The rules:

  1. Thank the nominator and link them
  2. List the rules
  3. Add seven facts about yourself
  4. Nominate seven other bloggers and notify them of the nomination

I won’t be nominating anyone today, since I know a lot of people have already done this and while I tend to do these kind of awards over and over again, I know not everyone likes to do that.

  1. Not too long ago I thought of a fact about myself and thought: hey, I could use that for one of those tags! Naturally I’ve forgotten what that fact was
  2. I’m really starting to prefer We Heart It to Pinterest – gasp!
  3. I’m in love with my new My Melody phone case (though by the time this is posted it’s not that new anymore) – it’s adorable. One day I shall post a picture of it
  4. If I could bring one Pokemon into our world, it’d be Arceus because it’s said that it created the entire Pokemon race. Which means that if I were to bring Arceus into our world it could create the entire Pokemon race here #score
  5. Ouran High School Host Club will forever be my favourite manga
  6. I tend to just reread my favourite manga all the time and occasionally read a new one
  7. Speaking of which, my most recent new read was Orange and it was brilliant and made a huge impact on me. I can’t stop thinking about it. Definitely recommend it

Since I’m not tagging anyone, what are some facts about you? Which Pokemon would you bring to our world? What is your favourite manga? Let me know in the comments!
