The Book Aesthetics Tag

After doing the Blogger Aesthetics Tag, I wondered if there was a tag in which you had to make book related aesthetics. I couldn’t find one (if there is let me know!) so naturally I made on myself

Rules

💛 Thank whoever nominated you (maybe you’re bitter that you have ANOTHER tag to do on top of the billions you already need to do (#relatable), still though. Someone thought of you. Be thankful. At least pretend to be
💛 Credit the creator of this tag (I feel so… weird, asking for credits?
💛 There’s no limit of how many aesthetics you can make for a question, but think of your poor readers. Even me, an aesthetics hoe, might get tired after 50 aesthetics (I doubt anyone would make/share that many for this tag I just like to exaggerate \_(ツ)_/¯
💛 Make your OWN aesthetics, please don’t steal them from someone else. Also what’s the fun in that?

Favourite book of the year

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde

I’ve read more books that I loved, but so far none have been able to surpass these two. They both have important messages, are well-written and have great characters. I haven’t gotten around to reviewing The Hate U Give Yet (I keep putting it off because I feel like everything has been said already?) but you can read my review for Queens of Geek here.

Character you relate to a lot

Taylor from Queens of Geek

There are more characters I relate to, but boy did I relate a lot to Taylor (Charlie as well, but less so). Her anxiety was so well written I could cry. If you want to know more about why I related so much to Taylor (wow this sounds like clickbait but in reality I’m just lazy and don’t want to repeat myself promise) read my review.

A character you look up to

Charlie from Queens of Geek

Hermione Granger

A lot of us look up to Hermione (I also relate to her a lot, but I wanted to give my girl Taylor some love), so I don’t think I need to explain why I look up to her. I also wanted to include Charlie though, cause though I looked up to Taylor as well I didn’t want to repeat myself (the things she did despite her anxiety were incredibly inspiring). I absolutely loved Charlie and how she’s able to express herself, be herself and speak her mind like that is really something to look up to. Not to mention what an incredible friend she is. She may not have anxiety herself, but she gets Taylor so well and she’s always there for her. We should all aspire to be a friend like Charlie.

As much as I love Queens of Geek I promise I’m done talking about it now (in this post anyway) lmao.

An underrated gem

Heroine Complex by Sarah Kuhn

I absolutely loved Heroine Complex. It was such a fun read and I can’t wait to read the sequel. Basically: Asian female superheroes, fun superhero comic book vibes, girls supporting girls, sisters and a healthy romance. What more could you want? Review hopefully coming this week!

A character that deserves more love

Piper McLean from Heroes of Olympus

Agatha Wellbelove from Carry On

The hatred for Piper may have already passed, but a while back (I think around the time Blood of Olympus was published?) I came across so much hatred for Piper. And for ridiculous reasons! Because she thinks Jason is better than Percy?? Yeah the girl’s in love of course she’s going to think that, and she’s entitled to that opinion? I don’t remember the other reasons, but none of them were sounded. I honestly don’t get it. I love Piper with my entire heart. Fell in love with her the moment she appeared. She’s a daughter of Aphrodite, who kicks ass, uses words to get out of sticky situations (Charm speak), is an amazing and supportive friend, and so much more?? Fight me haters.

Agatha is disliked and hated on a lot. Especially when Carry On was first published a lot of reviews mentioned that they didn’t like her. Meanwhile I love my daughter. I love that she chose herself, realised that she never really loved Simon, didn’t want to be the prize for the hero at the end of the quest, just kidnapped a dog (or should I say… dognapped *finger guns*) and went to L.A. to live there happily ever after. Basically I adore Agatha and would fight for her too

An underrated OTP

Danny and Colton from Timekeeper

Timekeeper by Tara Sim did get a bit of buzz back when it was released last year, but I feel that it’s really underrated. Which is a shame because it’s amazing? It was my favourite book of 2016 (read my review here) and Danny and Colton played a huge part in that, since their romance is a huge part of the plot. They’re adorable. The relationship is pure and emotional and just so damn healthy. Apparently I declared it my favourite romance of 2016 and I still stand by that.

I TAG

Marie | Lia | Kat | Fadwa | CW | YOU

Don’t feel obligated to do this!

If you want to do this tag (whether I’ve tagged you directly or not), but don’t really know how to make aesthetics: stay tuned! I’ve got a tutorial coming this Tuesday (you may be thinking: Michelle, why didn’t you get that up BEFORE this tag? Well… I was really excited about this tag and wanted to post it… So… Sorry?)

Are any of these books/characters/ships among your favourites as well? Which ones would you have picked? Let me know in the comments!

Forgive Me Books for I Have Sinned | The Reader Confession Tag

Thank you Holly for tagging me! It’s time for me to confess some sins, but it would be a real sin if you didn’t check out Holly’s blog, so what are you waiting for?

Let’s confess some sins

Guys I was so thrilled when I found this?? This meme + a pug?? 🙏🏻

Have you ever damaged a book?

Haven’t we all? I know a lot of us like to pretend we’re saints and would NEVER hurt a book, but… guys we’re only human (well as far as I’m aware, maybe some of you guys aren’t). It can happen. Sometimes your book gets damaged in your bag, sometimes you drop a book, sometimes you spill a drink or crumbs while reading – and it’s okay. I get wanting to keep your books pretty (believe me damaging a book can ruin my day) but your book will forgive you (unless maybe if we’re talking about The Monster Book of Monsters, then maybe not)

Have you ever damaged a borrowed book?

No, but I did lose a library book as a kid. I kid you not someone stole it from my grandmother’s bag. I remember being really upset, even though it wasn’t my fault at all.

How long does it take you to read a book?

This depends on so many factors. Like the amount of time I have to read and the book itself (the length, whether I’m enjoying it or not etc). So… It can take me a day or it can take me months haha

Books that you haven’t finished?

Oh boy I try to finish books, I really do. But if I’m not enjoying it… I really don’t want to force myself *insert cliche life is short* It has happened that I decided that maybe I’m just not in the mood for it and I’ll try again later, but it’s been two years since I tried to read American Gods and I still haven’t picked it up again. I really enjoyed Gaiman’s other books that I read though, so I might give it another chance someday (with the emphasis on someday)

Hyped/ Popular books you didn’t like?

Welllllll I no longer like Throne of Glass or the Shadowhunters books, but I never liked Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar children, so I’m going to go with that one. I did like the first one, but after that the series went downhill for me.

Is there a book you wouldn’t tell anyone you were reading?

Nah, I’m not ashamed of  any of the books I read.

How many books do you own?

Uh I dunno? I’m sorry but I’m waaaay too lazy to count them haha

Are you a fast reader or a slow reader?

See the ‘how long does it take you to read a book’ question

Do you like to buddy read?

I haven’t really done it, but I like the concept of it!

Do you read better in your head or out loud?

Head. Honestly reading out loud sounds exhausting? I’m so lazy omg

If you were only allowed to own one book, what would it be and why?

Don’t make me choose between my babies

AND THAT’S IT! Now who wants to confess next? If you want to do this tag, consider yourself tagged

Has someone ever stolen a (library) book from you? Do you have any horror stories surrounding damaged books? Let me know in the comments!

My Blogger Aesthetics

Marie asked me if I had done this tag yet, and if not that I should do it. Since I absolutely love making aesthetics, how could I say no? 😛 Also don’t forget to click on the link to see her wonderful aesthetic and the rest of her wonderful blog duh

Since I love aesthetics, I won’t just be sharing one haha

The Rules:

  1. Collect any number of images that you feel represent you as a person—your personality, aspirations, favorite things, anything at all that makes you you.
  2. Put your chosen images together into a collage of whatever size and shape you find pleasing.
  3. Share your masterpiece with everyone, in all the places.
  4. Maybe nominate other bloggers as a way to tell them, “Hey, you, I think you’re awesome, and we should celebrate that awesomeness.”
  5. Share these rules (and maybe the below tips, if you’re feeling helpful).

Tips:

  • Find inspiration by spending (minimum) three hours scrolling through aesthetic Tumblr posts relevant to you.
  • Two great places to hunt for pictures are Pinterest and WeHeartIt. Pinterest requires an account; WeHeartIt does not.
  • PicMonkey’s collage editor is free to use and doesn’t require an account, heck yes.

A while back I was tagged on Tumblr to make a personal aesthetic/moodboard, so I thought I’d share it here as well

I had the idea of making an aesthetic for a Hufflepuff writer, and then when I posted it on Tumblr I realised,, that’s LITERALLY me. My blog’s called The WRITING HUFFLEPUFF. I didn’t even do it on purpose haha

Buttt of course I wanted to make a new one for this tag as well, so I made this one:

I’m really happy with how it turned out! If you’re new here and thinking ‘oh! Michelle must have a pug that she loves and shares lots of pictures of!’ uh no. Michelle whines that she wants a pug and writes a blog post about why she should have one and then about two years later people still find her blog by searching for pugs. I’m honoured really. Also some of my friends have joked that I’m actually a pug in disguise. Which is obviously not true how dare they expose me

I actually made a new Tumblr for aesthetics only recently so if you too love aesthetics, click here

I TAG

Don’t feel obligated to do this!

Have you done this tag? If so please put the link to the post in the comments so I can check it out because did I mention I love aesthetics? Do you love them too? Let me know in the comments!

The Writer’s Tag | Where I Talk About My WIP (Sort Of – I Tried)

Since it’s NaNoWriMo (and this blog technically is also a writing blog) I’ve been on the lookout for some fun writing tags. Thus I found The Writer’s Tag on Head in the Clouds.

What genres, styles, and topics do you write about?

Mostly fantasy, though my current WIP (like the one I’m trying to focus on instead of all the others) is a contemporary. I’m also planning a detective series though.

I’ve found that I often focus a lot on friendship, no matter the genre. I just have a soft spot for friendship and definitely prefer it to romance (though I do love my ships). Some other topics I often write about are anxiety, loss, grief, PTSD, family, corruption and discovering yourself. There’s probably more but my mind is drawing a blank haha.

How long have you been writing?

This may sound cliché but it’s true: as long as I can remember. I can’t pinpoint an exact moment when I started writing, nor do I remember what my first story was. I’ve just been making up stories and characters as long as I remember.

Why do you write?

Because I can

Because I love how I can immerse myself in all these exciting worlds and do whatever I want.

Because I can express myself and my feelings throughout my stories and characters.

Because I’ve always had trouble expressing myself through speech, so I feel so free when I can write my words down

Because I love it

When is the best time to write?

Whenever I can, and when I say can when my mind is in the right place and I’m not too exhausted. School can drain all of my creativity out of me which makes it hard to write during the school year. Other than that, time of day doesn’t really matter.

What parts of writing do you love and hate?

I love the excitment when you come up with a fun new idea, when everything comes together and you can picture your world and characters, when you reach that stage where you feel like you know your characters in and out, when you figure out how to fix an annoying plot hole, when inspiration (finally) strikes and how the world seems to fall away when you’re writing.

I hate that my mind keeps coming up with new exciting ideas when I still need to finish other stories, I hate when I come up with great ideas/scenes/lines/etc when I’m lying in my bed trying to sleep, I hate how school and life in general can get in the way of writing and just suck all of your creativity out of you and obviously I hate writer’s block (related to the previous one, but I can still get writer’s block when school and life aren’t getting in the way of course).

How do you overcome writer’s block?

I probably don’t? I usually get writing’s block during the school year and I have no idea what to do. I’m so stressed and exhausted that I can’t get myself to write, even though there are times that I want to (and actually have the time). So sorry no wise advice from me haha

Are you working on something at the moment?

I am! I’m working on my contemporary WIP that was my Camp NaNo project last year and this year as well. I’m having a lot of trouble summarising/explaining it without giving too much away so here’s my summary on my NaNo page: ‘Friendship, banter, food, karaoke, The Gay™, Dora the Explorer Discourse (I’m not even joking I really hope people will find this very very long scene as hilarious as I do lmao)’

Yes there’s is Dora the Explorer Discourse. And it takes up several pages. I should be ashamed of that shouldn’t I

I’m not thoughAnyway it’s very light and fluffy though it tackles some more serious issues like anxiety, bullying and abusive parents too.

Other than that I’m always planning and thinking of other stories. Like just two days ago I started planning a new novel (*whispers* send help). Like I mentioned before I’m planning a detective series, there’s still my urban fantasy series The Chosen Ones that I’m planning all over again because I’m not satisfied with it at all), a superheroes story (might be a series) and a retelling (standalone contemporary). And about a million other ideas floating around in my head

What are your writing goals this year?

Just write more in general. But also finish my Camp NaNo project. Not necessarily this month (that’s definitely not going to happen with the way my month is going), but I really want to finally finish it so I can start working on other projects

I TAG

Whoever wants to do this!

What are you currently working on? And what are your goals? Also any tips on how to deal with writer’s block? Let me know in the comments!

Sharing 7 Lines From the WIP

Back in 2015 I did the 777 Challenge. Though I wasn’t tagged in it this time, I thought I’d bring it back because 1) I barely talk about writing on here anymore and this blog needs to live up to its name and 2) it’s NaNoWriMo so what better time than to share some lines!

In this challenge you have to share seven lines from the seventh page of (one of) your WIP(s) and then tag 7 bloggers. This year I’m working on the same contemporary novel as last year, as school got in the way and I never got around to working on it. I really hope that this year I’ll be able to finish it. Fingers crossed!

Wow I forgot that the reason it’s called 777 challenge because you have to share seven lines from the seventh page of your WIP. I just chose some lines  I liked woops haha. While I would’ve liked to share that snippet, I’m going to stick to the rules so here are seven lines from the seventh page:

I don’t know about you but besides the Drew one this list is really me. Then again Yong Sun, the protagonist, is a lot like me.

I tag:

May | Kat | Eve | Charlotte | Holly | Marie | YOU!

If I tagged you don’t feel obligated to do this!

Are you participating in Camp NaNo? How’s it going? If you’re not participating, how’s the writing going anyway? Let me know in the comments!

THE ORIGINAL QUESTIONS

1. If you could meet anyone from throughout history, who and why?

There are so many people I’d love to meet, but Oscar Wilde is probably at the top of my list. I just love him so much, both as a person and a writer and sometimes it really bums me out that we live in different time periods.

2. What is your favorite book and why?

If I had to choose one book (and not series) it would be The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I just can’t help it. This book and Charlie resonate with me so much. It makes me feel things that not many books do and just fgkjdxgx

3. Who is your favorite fiction character from any medium and why?

Oh boy do I really have to choose? I have so many! Though right now I love all the kids on Andi Mack so I’m going to go with them because I love my babies

CÁTIA’S QUESTIONS

1. What book have you read that made you want to travel to the place in the book?

So many! Obviously Harry Potter made me want to go to Hogwarts, Anna and the French Kiss made me want to go to Paris, The Heroes of Olympus series made me want to go to Greece and revisit Rome (I mean I always want to go back to Rome but) and there are so many others! I just want to go to so many places and books set there (and in other places) just make me want to go even more.

2. If you could start your blog journey all over again what would you change or do differently? Would you have started earlier?

Part of me does wish I had started earlier, but things would have been so different. I would’ve been a different person, less aware of certain issues going around in the world, I had a different reading taste and well, I think this blog would’ve been very different and maybe not in a good way. Also I may not have met the people I’ve met now, because things would’ve gone differently and we might not have stumbled upon each other’s blogs – the idea alone makes me sad!

If I could start over I would be more organised – in planning and scheduling posts, my blog’s design, tags, categories, features etc. I also would’ve gotten involved in the (book) blogging community right away, as at first I had no idea there even was a community.

3. What is your biggest dream and how are you working on its realization?

Becoming a writer and um… by writing? Though not much? Being a writer is my biggest dream, but I also want to be a journalist and since that’s what I’m studying well… I have to focus on that throughout the school year. I’m really excited for this summer vacation so that I can get back into writing though!

I TAG…

MY QUESTIONS

Almost forgot these woops haha

  1. What is your favourite book you read so far this year?
  2. What is a song that you can listen over and over to?
  3. If you could turn one book into a tv show/movie, which one and how do you picture it?

What about you guys? If you could meet anyone from throughout history, who would you choose? And what is your biggest dream? Let me know in the comments!

The Goodreads Book Tag

Goodreads, what would we bookworms do without it? Probably die under a pile of books or something dramatic like that. Closet Readers tagged me a while ago to do The Goodreads Book Tag, so here we finally are! Don’t forget to check out their blog! Also if you guys want to be friends with me on Goodreads, feel free to add me!

What was the last book you marked as read?

The Stone House by A.K. Benedict, one of the BBC Class books (while I’m writing this anyway. Who knows, maybe I’ll have read something else by the time this goes up. That’d be nice). While the writing was okay, I loved diving back into the world of Class and spending time with my favourite characters. It was definitely a fun read!

What are you currently reading?

Well, according to my Goodreads I’m reading four books right now, but I haven’t read one of them in forever so I should probably remove that for now. I also listed Les Miserables as ‘currently reading’ since I finally started it, but I barely remember the 15 pages (of the 1100+ hahaha) I read, so I’ll have to start over. I am actually reading What She Does Next Will Astound You, a BBC Class book, and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

What was the last book you marked as ‘to read’?

Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan. I think this was on my list before but I deleted it after reading Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares, since I really hated that one (read my review here). But with all the praise I’m willing to give Levithan another chance.

Do you use the star rating system?

I do! Though sometimes I don’t give a book a rating, especially when it comes to single issues from comic books. I just can’t rate those! Also Goodreads you finally gave us the rereading option, maybe we can finally get some half stars?

Are you doing the 2017 reading challenge?

I am! I’m aiming for 100 books and am currently at 79. YAY COMICS

Do you have a wishlist?

Always with me in my head. And technically my to read list on Goodreads is a wishlist too. Also there are the gorgeous editions of books that I already have but need

Who are your favorite authors?

Rick Riordan, J.K. Rowling, Stephen Chbosky, Marissa Meyer, Rainbow Rowell, Patrick Ness – to name a few

Have you joined any groups?

Uuh technically I have. Are they all active? No. Am I active in the groups that are active? I wish

How many Goodreads shelves do you have?

Six: read, currently reading, to read, favourites, manga and on hold. I have tried to make more shelves, but it became a mess so I deleted them and gave up.

I TAG…

All the bookworms who want to do this!

How organised is your Goodreads? Are you doing the Goodreads Challenge? How is it going? Let me know in the comments!
