5 Books That I Need To Be Turned Into Anime

Us bookworms have a love/hate relationship with adaptations – obviously we want our favourite books on the small/big screen, but if it’s not done right… All hell breaks loose. But do we learn from those disastrous adaptations? Do we become cautious?

Nope we dream of more adaptations! Or at least I do. I spend waaaay too many hours thinking about books that would make great movies, tv shows, video games, musicals and as I will talk about in this post: anime. I might do a second part at some point in the future, but here are five books/series that I would love to see turned into anime.

💛 Geek Girl 💛

Geek Girl would be SUCH a cute and funny shoujo?? Harriet would on one hand be the PERFECT shoujo protagonist as she’s clumsy and can be so oblivious about what’s going on around her, but on the other hand she’d be so refreshing because she is so so flawed but she realises it and grows so much throughout the books. Also cute friendships!! Cute romances!! The most adorable family!! Travelling around the world and shenanigans!! Modelling gone wrong!! Where is my Geek Girl anime I made myself want it so badly now

💛 The Chaos Walking Trilogy 💛

CAN YOU IMAGINE THE BADASS OPENINGS AND MELANCHOLIC ENDINGS BECAUSE I CAN. Especially the ending of season 2 a.k.a. The Ask and the Answer with (select the following text to read the spoiler) Todd and Viola being separated it would be so beautiful yet the ANGST. And you know those terrifying anime villain expressions, with the eyes bulging and the creepy grin (bonus points if they laugh out loud too) I could so imagine mayor Prentiss like that in an anime. The plot and themes are just perfect for an anime – it would work so well. Oh no I just thought of Manchee in anime style rip there goes my heart and soul.

Oh boy this post was not a good idea now I got ANOTHER anime I badly want and will I get it?? Most likely not

💛 Percy Jackson 💛

Okay so the movies failed TERRIBLY like they probably just read the blurbs, thought ‘that sounds cool’ and went with that and now I’m left with a huge hole in my chest that needs to be filled with a good Percy Jackson adaptation and an anime?? Would be GREAT. A western cartoon would be too (like if done by the same team as Avatar). The creatures, magic and all that jazz would cost a lot of money in live action stuff to make it look good, but animated?? That would look SO good. Plus the humour would just work so well – imagine those expressions!!

💛 The Lunar Chronicles 💛

Marissa Meyer’s worldbuilding would look STUNNING in an anime, imagine the music, Thorne is basically an anime character already and just,, it works so well?? That’s all I have to say?? Because it’s been too long since I’ve read this series rip*

* I want to reread SO MANY BOOKS so badly but 1) I have plenty of unread books to read and 2) reading slump rip

💛 Harry Potter 💛

Listen, I love the movies, but I would love a tv show or an anime that follows the books more closely, includes scenes that weren’t that important to the plot and thus left out, develops the characters and relationships better… A tv show would be AMAZING but an anime would be fun too. I just want both to be honest. Can you imagine Draco being turned into a ferret, anime-style?? Iconic. Harry Potter is filled with so many unique characters that are perfect for anime and all the magic would look incredible.

What do you think of my choices? Do you agree with them? Which books would you love to see turned into anime? Let me know in the comments!

TV Shows I’m Currently Watching

Hey guys so I thought I should talk to you about the tv shows I’m currently watching (and convince you to watch them as well, well except for one). I mostly talk about books on here of course, but I love these shows so much that I decided to dedicate a post to them. So in no particular order, let’s go!

THE FOSTERS

I’m not sure when I started to watch The Fosters, either after season 1 had aired or in between 2a and 2b, but I’ve been watching it loyally for a long time now and though there were ups and downs (downs being 3B) I’m still in love with this show. I love how diverse it is and how it tackles important issues. They regularly deal with topics like homophobia, sexism, racism, transphobia and rape. And they do it so well. On top of that (most) of the characters are amazing and loving. The family dynamic is so much fun to watch and even though it deals with dark topics there are also lots of light and funny moments to make up for it. Is it perfect? No. Believe me they have made mistakes (sadly), but that doesn’t change the fact that I think it’s a really important show to watch. Also warning: keep tissues at hand. I know I’m super emotional, but still, I shed a few tears during almost every episodes (not always because it’s sad! A lot of times because it’s beautiful and I’m so attached to these characters – well again most of them)

ACE ATTORNEY

Oh boy where do I start. Okay so I’ve done a post about the games in which I basically tried to convince you guys to play them, because besides Pokemon this is my favourite gaming franchise. I love it SO much. Naturally I was beyond excited when the anime was announced, because I’ve been waiting for YEARS. Sadly while there have been good moments, it’s not the adaptation I wanted. They’re rushing through the storylines and honestly I really wonder how anyone who hasn’t played the games can keep up. I was excited after the first episode, and it kind of went downhill from there (except for episode 13, if you’re a fan of the games but gave up on the anime – can’t blame you – watch it. It’s adorable). Also they make really unnecessary changes, they left out such important plot points AND character background stories/arcs and honestly, I’ve been bored lately. Also really frustrated because they’re really digging their own grave with what they’ve been leaving out. Ace Attorney is SUCH great source material and would’ve made such a terrific anime, if they hadn’t screwed up. Oh well, I’ll continue to watch while waiting for Spiritual Justice to come out.

BINAN KOUKOU CHIKYUU BOUEI-BU LOVE! LOVE!

Speaking of anime, I’m absolutely loving the second season of Binan. I’ve wanted to do a post on the first season for forever now, but I still haven’t gotten around to it. I still will though! While I’m one episode behind, it’s as hilarious as always. If you haven’t heard of Binan, it’s a magical girl anime, except with boys and that it’s a parody. It’s super silly and just such a fun watch. I love it (more on it in my hopefully soon to be posted separate post on it)

JANE THE VIRGIN

I’ve talked a bit about Jane in my previous wrap up, because I’ve been obsessed with it. I just finished season 1 as I’m writing this and oh my God. It’s so good guys. Jane is my new favourite character and Gina Rodriguez is my new favourite actress. Jane is so relatable (at least to me) and all of the characters are so unique and complex. The writing is hilarious and clever. I love the family dynamic. Oh and there are several murders here and there. BUT! Nothing too gruesome. It keeps you at the edge of your seat at all times and just begs you to watch another one. THE ENDING OF SEASON 1 GUYS. I NEED TO CONTINUE WATCHING RIGHT NOW (except I also really needed to blog so here I am). Anyway, just watch it. I’m obsessed so expect me to try and convince you multiple times in the future as well.

UNCONTROLLABLY FOND

Okay so I’m SUPER behind on this one, mainly because of Jane the Virgin. But it’s really good and enjoyable so far. I’ve been waiting so long for this one (Bae Suzy and Kim Woo Bin are among my favourite Kdrama actors. So them being the leads in the same drama? GIMME) so I’m kind of disappointed in myself that I’m behind, but in my defence: Jane was calling my name. Also while it’s beautiful and there are definitely light moments, I have the feeling that it’s going to be sad and I didn’t want that right now. ALSO! The longer I wait the more I can binge watch. But seriously, if you’re looking for a new Kdrama look no further.

SHOWS I’M TECHNICALLY STILL WATCHING BUT HAVEN’T WATCHED IN A WHILE

  • YOUNG JUSTICE: I LOVED season 1 and would recommend it in a heartbeat. I thought it would be one of my favourite shows, but I’m really disappointed with season 2 and am having trouble getting into it. I just loved the original team and they just introduced way too many new characters at once (with half of the original main characters no longer being main characters??). Anyway, I’m still planning on eventually at least trying to watch season 2
  • GILMORE GIRLS: It’s not funny how long it’s taking me to finish season 7. I’m just not enjoying it like previous seasons. I’ve got five episodes left. But I can’t bring myself to watch it. I will watch it before the new show comes out though
  • SUPERGIRL: I’ve watched the first three episodes, and while I liked it, I was also bored? I’m determined to keep watching though. Hopefully it will get better
  • HIGH KICK! THE REVENGE OF THE SHORT LEGGED: A sitcom rather than a Kdrama, I mostly started watching this because I love Krystal and then when I started it I noticed that Lee Jong Suk (who played the lead in Pinocchio, read my review here) is in it as well, who I absolutely loved in Pinocchio, which happens to be my favourite Kdrama alongside Dream High. So far I don’t find it that funny yet and the fact that there are 123 episodes or something really puts me off
  • YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL: I watched the Japanese remake years ago so decided to give the original Kdrama a try. I love Park Shin Hye, but at some point she tried to spit out a fire and that made me kind of nauseous so ever since I’ve been putting it off haha. I will try and watch episode 2 again (hopefully without getting nauseous) soon though, because what I had watched so far was enjoyable

SHOWS THAT ARE ON HIATUS RIGHT NOW:

  • TEEN WOLF: Waiting for the last season! Honestly I’m glad it’s ending. I’m still furious about what happened to Arden (read my post about it on The Feministas here) and shows should end before they go downhill (and honestly it has been going downhill already). I’m not looking forward to not seeing Kira, but it looks intense and you know. STYDIA
  • LIV AND MADDIE: I love this show so much. I am upset about what happened to my ships last season, but it’s still enjoyable. I love the characters and the focus on family and friends. It’s just such a breeze to watch, so I can’t wait to have it back in my life
  • THE REAL O’NEALS: I recently binge watched this and I loved it. Sure it has it’s flaws, but it’s hilarious and mostly positive. I fell in love with the characters so quickly and I laughed out loud so many times.

And that’s my list! Are you watching any of these? Any shows you’d recommend based on these? Just what are you watching in general? Let me know in the comments!

Why You Should Read Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle

Why you should read Tsubasa_ Reservoir Chronicle-2

I recently reread Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, one of my favourite manga, so with it fresh in my mind I felt like writing a post on why YOU should read it (and love it).

If you have no idea what Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle is about, here’s a short spoiler-free summary:

The story begins with childhood friends princess Sakura and Syaoran. Princess Sakura’s feathers, which are her memories, are shattered throughout multiple worlds and thus Syaoran decides to find them for her. They begin a journey along with Fai and Kurogane, who have their own reasons for traveling. There’s also cute companion called Mokona.

Why you shouldn't read it

  • If you can’t stand blood and gore. It’s not really that bad, but things can get a bit bloody
  • I’m not sure about the age rating. The anime is PG-13, but is a less mature than the manga. If you’re younger than 13 though, you probably shouldn’t read it

Why you should read it

  • Travel through many different worlds: from fun to incredibly dangerous and corrupt
  • FANTASY. MAGIC.
  • Action hell yes
  • PLOT TWISTS OH MY GOD
  • LIKE SIRIUSLY YOU GUYS OH MY GOD
  • It’s fluffy and cute and hilarious BUT IT WILL ALSO RIP OUT YOUR HEART MULTIPLE TIMES TO A POINT WHERE YOU WONDER IF YOU STILL HAVE A HEART LEFT
  • IT’S JUST SO EXCITING YOU GUYS THE TENSION THE ACTION THE ADVENTURE THE PLOT TWISTS THE FIGHTING DFABSJDF
  • The artwork is beautiful like expected from Clamp
  • Of course the characters. They are so beautiful and complex and their background stories and even all the minor characters (and there are a lot) are 3D and complex and colourful and just amazing
  • MOKONA MODOKI
  • Fai x Kurogane bromance (possibly more than just a bromance)
  • All the relationships to be honest (romance is not the major plot point there is so much more going on)
  • The writing is just so amazing. It’s so complex but it still makes sense (unless you read it very slowly.)
  • It’s just a masterpiece guys
  • I mean that summary sounds pretty simple and fun and innocent right? IT’S NOT. DO NOT LET ME AND MY SPOILER-FREE SUMMARY FOOL YOU. I HAD TO WRITE IT THAT WAY BECAUSE I CAN’T SPOIL ANYTHING OR IT WILL LOSE IT’S BEAUTY WHEN YOU READ IT
  • The major fangirling in this post should convince you to read it
  • God I don’t even know anymore except

If you prefer anime over manga, the anime is amazing too (less mature like I said, less angst, less dark), but do not watch the OV seasons unless you’ve read the manga. I watched the OV seasons before I read the manga and it was incredibly confusing, especially the transition between the first OV season and the second.

Also there is now a sequel to the original manga.

SQUEE. I want to read it, but the first page made me wonder if I should read xxxHolic first (the original Tsubasa and xxxHolic are intertwined) to understand what’s going on. I’ve read the first 3 volumes but I haven’t really had time (and so far it’s not as good as Tsubasa) to read the rest. I can’t wait to read the sequel though.

SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR. START READING IT.

The Sunshine Award

Thank you Travelling In My Bookcase for nominating me for the Sunshine Award! I’m sorry it took me a while!

OFFICIAL RULES OF THE SUNSHINE AWARDsunshine-award-logo

If you have been nominated for The Sunshine Award and you choose to accept it, write a blog post about the Sunshine award in which you:

  • Thank the person who nominated you.
  • Answer the questions from the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate a few other bloggers.
  • Write the same amount of questions for the bloggers you nominated.
  • Notify the bloggers on their blog.
  • Put the award button on your blog.

What is your favourite anime film that isn’t a Studio Ghibli film?

I love all the Pokémon films, but I’m going to go with the K-On! Movie. It’s just such a fun film. It takes place in London, their friendship is amusing to watch as always (squad goals! Though I’m already in the Blog Squad which is even better than the K-On! Squad :D) and it’s hilarious just like the anime. And now I want to rewatch both the anime and the film!

What is your favourite opening theme song from an anime film or tv series?

Oh I’m suck a sucker for opening themes. I love sooo many. I’m going to go with Sakura Kiss from Ouran High School Host Club though, as it’s my favourite anime and the opening gets me even more excited for it. The song is incredibly catchy. Also shout out for every opening theme song from K-On!

What game series do you think would make an excellent anime film or tv series?

Okay, so Pokémon is already an anime, but I’d like a more mature anime, preferably based on the Pokémon Special manga <3

If you could live in any anime world which one would it be?

I’m going to cheat a bit: attend Ouran Academy while training to be a Pokémon master haha.

Who is your favourite anime voice actor?

Miyano Mamoru, the voice of Tamaki (yes Ouran again haha), but also Light from Death Note (and other characters of course). If you’re familiar with both characters, you’ll understand how amazingly talented this guy is. And can you be in love with someone’s voice? Because damn I’m in love with his.

I don’t know if all the questions should be about anime, so I’m going to ask more general questions.

My questions:

1. What colour books do you own the most?
2. How do you feel about rainbow shelves? For you or not?
3. If you could have anyone perform on your birthday party, living or dead, who would it be?

The rules state: ‘Write the same amount of questions for the bloggers you nominated.’ So I interpret that as: if you nominate x people, write x questions. Three questions mean three nominees I think (I can’t think of anymore questions at the moment haha). So I’ll nominate:

The Time Travelling Writer
Read at Midnight
Love, Sydney

How about you guys? Do you watch anime? I started Code Geass recently and I still need to finish Cute High Earth Defense Club Love, which is hilarious, weird and really good (it’s a parody of magical girl, so if you’re not familiar with the genre you might not appreciate it as much).

Music Monday: Nostalgia

It’s time for another Music Monday! Except that it’s Friday. Ssssh.

Music Monday is a bi-weekly link-up hosted by Bridget from Stay and Watch the Stars. This time the theme is ‘nostalgia’.

My playlist

nostalgia

You can also listen to this playlist on 8tracks.

Wish – Arashi

The song that introduced me to Arashi! Also my favourite Japanese drama <3

Crashed the Wedding – Busted

Probably not my first song (I honestly don’t remember which one was my first Busted song), but one of my favourites! I even made a music video for it with a friend haha.

Sakura Kiss – Chieko Kawabe

The opening song to my favourite anime! <3

Hakuna Matata – Lion King

Except the Dutch version is more nostalgic to me haha.

Pokémon Theme

This wasn’t just the theme song of Pokémon, it was the theme of my life.

Hanging by a Moment – Lifehouse

First song I heard of Lifehouse, now one of my favourite bands. I especially love to listen to them when I’m writing.

Under the Sea – The Little Mermaid

Again, the Dutch version is more nostalgic to me!

I’ll Be There for You – The Rembrandts

CLAP CLAP (I’m 100% positive I’m not the only one who claps haha)

Tale As Old As Time – Beauty and the Beast

And once again, Dutch version is more nostalgic, though I definitely prefer this one (as with all the Disney songs I prefer the original)

If you made a playlist for Music Monday I’d love to listen to it, so feel free to share the link to your post in the comments! Are any of these songs nostalgic to you as well?
