The Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag // You Want Me To Pick One For Every Question??

It’s that time of the year again: time to freak out over the fact that we’re already halfway through the year (*insert Jake Peralta ‘WHAT’ gif*) and about the books we’ve read so far. Thank you Olivia @ Purely Olivia for tagging me!

1. Best book you’ve read so far this year

This is a tie between Starfish and Anger is a Gift. Both were incredible for different reasons, though both had great writing and are very important.Starfish has the best anxiety rep I’ve ever seen, a biracial Asian (half Japanese, half white) MC, explores what it means to be biracial and talks about racism.

Anger is a Gift is about police brutality and will hit you in the gut, but at the same time it has so many lighter moments between families, friends and the main ship. The entire main cast is black or brown, the main character is gay and he has so many LGBTQIAP+ friends. Even a trans friend and a nonbinary friend!!

You can find my Starfish review here, and my Anger is a Gift review here

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far this year

Magnus Chase and the Ship of the Dead was a great conclusion to the trilogy. I loved every second of it and I love that while everything is resolved, it felt like there’s so much more to tell, thus leaving it open for more books (please uncle Rick I’m not ready to let my kids go yet)

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

Seriously, it’s time for me to once again beg the publishing industry to please stop. Just for a little bit. I can’t keep up.

Some new releases that I want to read and thankfully have on my shelves are The Brightsiders (which I’m reading right now actually!*), Children of Blood and Bone and A Thousand Perfect Notes.

* Can you tell I started this post a while ago dsbjh4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

What’s even being published. I have no idea. Oh wait! I’ll steal Olivia’s answer because I too am excited for What If It’s Us5. Biggest disappointment

Hahahahhaa Snowsisters bye

Seriously I was so excited to get approved for this ARC I was all ‘THIS BOOK IS QUEER I’M QUEER THANK YOU NETGALLEY’ and then this was a transphobic mess :) You can read my review here

6. Biggest surprise

Definitely Flight Season. I didn’t really have high expectations – I thought it’d be a fun, fluffy contemporary but I got so much more than that. I got a beautiful story about overcoming grief, accepting death, friendship and criticism on the American immigration system. You can read my review here

I also didn’t expect to love Alex, Approximately as much as I do. I thought it would be a fun read with one of my favourite tropes, enemies to lovers, but I didn’t expect a story about living with trauma as well. Also: the love interest is half-Hawaiian and the MC’s best friend is black. Read my review here

7. Favorite new author (debut or new to you)

Akemi Dawn Bowman, Mark Oshiro and Alice Oseman. I know I was supposed to pick one but dmnbgs I can’t choose ok

8. Newest fictional crush

Uhhh does it count if I say Abby Suso? ‘Cause Abby is definitely not new to me but boy I love her so much* and I DID read Leah on the Offbeat this year sooo

* This has nothing to do with my crush on Alexandra Shipp nope nothing at all9. Newest favorite character

WHY ARE THESE QUESTIONS SO HARD I LOVE SO MANY OF THEM

Like there’s Kiko from Starfish, Moss from Anger is a Gift, all the kids in I Was Born For This, Levi and Enne from Ace of Shades, the kids in Flight Season… I was introduced to too many great characters this year okay?

10. Book that made you cry

Have I,, mentioned Anger is a Gift yet,,, because,,, I read THE WORST scene on the bus and I just,,, closed my Kindle app on my phone, stared in front of me and pretended that had just not happened and everything was FINE because I was not going to cry on the bus

Everything was not fine

Also Starfish because I related a lot to Kiko. I didn’t really cry because of her anxiety, but I did relate to the abuse she faced and in some cases that hit me hard.

Oh boy I also shed tears while reading Flight Season and of course during All American Boys as well. Basically I cried a lot this year??11. Book that made you happy

Thankfully a lot of books also made me happy! Leah on the Offbeat immediately comes to mind, but also Geek Girl #3-5 and Cinderella Boy. Leah does have some issues (which I’ll talk about in my review which I’ll hopefully write some day??) but overal it just made really happy and I finished it with a big smile on my face. The Geek Girl series is just always a delight to read. Even though the secondhand embarrassment is bad it always manages to cheer me up. And oh boy Cinderella Boy?? Such a cute queer Cinderella retelling (genderfluid gay MC!). I loved seeing all these queer kids fighting for their rights and getting their happy endings.

12. Favorite book to movie adaptations you’ve seen this year

Even if Love, Simon hadn’t been the only adaptation I had seen (so far!! We’re so close to To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before!!) it would be my favourite anyway. I just have no words to describe how much this movie means to me but just thinking about it makes me tear up I love it so much. I actually loved it even more the second time around, which I didn’t think was possible

13. Favorite review you’ve written this year

Probably my Starfish review! It took me a while to get around to it because some of the topics Starfish touches are a bit of a difficult topic for me, but I’m so proud I managed to talk about it.

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought (or received) so far this year

Uh this is a good one lol. I haven’t bought or gotten any special editions or anything, which I usually use for these kind of questions. I’m very tempted to go with Starfish again, because I knew I needed a physical copy of it and it has such a gorgeous cover?15. What book do you need to read by the end of the year?

Again, all of them lol. Though to be honest I should probably read some of the books that have been left unread for years now…

all the unread books that have been on my shelf for 3+ years

Would you look at that – I finished writing this in August. I’m pretty sure I once got this tag up waaay past the mid-year point. This post really reminded me of how many great books I’ve read this year?? Sure, there have been some not so great reads, but over all I’ve loved so many books? Thank you 20gayteen

How has 2018 been so far for you reading-wise? What has been your best and worst reads? Can you relate to any of my answers? Let me know in the comments!

The Book Blogger Insider Tag // Did I Just Expose Myself As The Bad Blogger I Am

Thank you May @ Forever and Everly for tagging me like,,, a year ago*,,, Go check out their blog if you haven’t yet, it’s absolutely lovely (and so is she!!)

* y’all there were tags from 2015!!! on my to do list. I deleted them lol. I have no motivation to do them, the people who tagged me have forgotten by now and if I haven’t done them by now, three years later, I’m never gonna do them and that list was getting STRESSFUL

Where do you typically write your blog posts?

On the couch in the living room, at the diner table, in my bed or at my desk. My desk was unavaibale for a long time due to the mess I made lol. During the schoolyear I just drop everything at my desk and desk chair until it’s lost its entire purpose and I can’t use it. Until the end of the term and I clean everything, only to have the entire cycle repeated ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How long does it generally take you to write a book review?

This depends on so many factors. Generally negative reviews come easier to me, so I write those a lot faster than reviews for books I absolutely loved, but sometimes the negative ones are really hard to write as well, especially if the book was problematic (like Snowsisters). Honestly I have no clue how long it takes me, as I don’t really keep an eye on the clock. I just wrote a review for Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour though and I was surprised by how quickly that went.

When did you start your book blog?

2014! I’ve seen some things

What is the worst thing about having a book blog in your opinion?

Uggghhh the pressure and the stress, but that probably comes with every kind of blog? Especially if like me you have anxiety, are super insecure and set high standards for yourself

What is the best thing about having a book blog in your opinion?

All the lovely people in this community! I know it’s not without drama and some horrible people, but I feel like that’s mostly on Twitter? Or maybe I’ve just been lucky so far. I’ve met so many lovely people through blogging and made great friends though, and that’s definitely the best thing ❤

What blog post have you had the most fun writing so far?

Hmmm probably the post in which I talk about all my current writing projects and ideas! Writing them down and making aesthetics for them made me more excited for them, and all of your lovely reactions really motivated me ❤

What is your favorite type of blog post to write?

I don’t knowwww like this changes all the time?? Like generally reviews can be a bit stressful as I feel like I have to write them ASAP before my goldfish brain forgets everything, but once I actually sit down and start writing I really like writing them? But I also like lists like LGBTQIAP+ Books I Want To See Turned Into Movies, talking about my writing, silly reaction posts like the one I did for Hogwarts Mystery… Seriously it changes all the time and really depends on my mood!

When do you typically write?

Whenever I feel like it lol

Seriously, it really just depends on my mood? Sometimes I don’t have any energy, motivation or inspiration until like 10 PM and then start writing like this:

I don’t write any posts during the middle of the night though! I need sleep

Do you review every book you read?

Nope! I used to when I first started blogging but that stressed me out and I would stop reading any new books until I caught up on all my reviews, which meant I sometimes didn’t read for a long time even though I wanted to. This mindset put a lot of pressure on me, so now I just see what happens. If I want to review something, I’ll definitely try, but if I never end up reviewing it that’s okay too. Sometimes I just can’t find the words to explain why I loved a book so much, so that’s also a reason why I might not review something.

How do you write your book reviews? With a cup of coffee or tea? With Netflix? cuddled with your fur baby?

With a cup of tea or a glass of water, sometimes with a snack*, most likely listening to music. If it’s an ARC I have my phone next to me so I can take a look at my notes and the stuff I marked. Unfortunately I don’t have a fur baby :(

Though let’s be real if I did I wouldn’t get any work done lol

* Great now I want a snack

When do you write your book reviews? Right after finishing the book? Two weeks after finishing the book?

This really depends on my mood?? Sometimes I review almost immediately, sometimes a month later (and sometimes I don’t remember anything so I just give up lol). I do try to review books as soon as possible if I want (or need to) to review it, but I really try not to pressure myself

How often do you post?

I don’t know? 😂 I used to post three times a week plus a weekly wrap up, that changed to two posts a week for a while, then it changed to ‘whenever I have time and feel like it’ and now that it’s summer vacation I’m not sure yet how often I’ll post? I’ll try to post twice at the least but I don’t want to pressure and stress myself too much as I really need some rest. As much as I love blogging, it does recquire quite a bit of energy

Some of these answers make me sound like such a bad blogger lmao #exposed I remember when I had it all together

Bert is past me, ashamed of what I’ve become. Ernie is current me not caring ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Because I’m lazy I won’t tag anyone in specific. If you want to do this tag consider yourself tagged!

What are the worst and best things about (book) blogging for you? Do you have a fur baby? Let me know in the comments!

The Pride Tag! // In Which I Shower Becky Albertali With Love

Mel @ A Word and a Whisper created the Pride Tag, a super fun cute tag based on the colours of the rainbow flag. Since it’s Pride, what better time than to do this tag? Thank you again Mel for tagging me in the comments! And don’t forget to check out her blog if you haven’t yet

Red – Life – name an author who gives you life

Lately it’s definitely been Becky Albertali, which of course has to do with Love, Simon and Leah on the Offbeat coming out, but I’ve just been filled with so much love for this woman??

Orange – Healing – pick a book that helped you through a rough time

The first time I read Simon vs I didn’t know I was bi yet (had been repressing the hell out of it! Fun!) so the second time I read it when I had come out? SUCH a different experience and it helped me so much?? I could definitely use this one for yellow as well (then again I can use all of the books in this post for yellow except Anger is a Gift) but it’s healed me so much?? I can’t even describe it to be honest, but Love, Simon has had the same effect on me.

Yellow – Sunlight – pick a book that makes you happy

I could go with so many books for this question – most of the books I’ve chosen for this tag would fit this question, but I’ve decided to go with The Upside of Unrequited. While the protagonist herself isn’t queer, she has two moms who are planning their wedding (same sex marriage has just been legalised and everyone is just celebrating and it’s so wonderful?) and her twin sister is a lesbian who ends up dating a pansexual Korean girl. The book ends with a big gay wedding – what better way to end a book?

Green – Nature – what tropes, buzzwords, etc., are you naturally drawn to when choosing a book?

💛 If it’s queer you most likely got me
💛 Though I’m drawn to any kind of diversity tbh
💛 Writers and bookworms as characters!
💛 Boarding schools
💛 Friendship!!!
💛 Magic
💛 Road trips
💛 This is really hard because there’s so much??
💛 Enemies to lovers!
💛 Banter
💛 Cute animals that don’t die!! *looking at a certain author who traumatised me which I’ll never get over* I mean I literally bought The Unexpected Everything on a whim because there was a pug on the cover dskgj*
💛 There are so many more but I can’t think of any others?? Oh well this is too long anyway

* Don’t be fooled the pug is barely there :( There are lots of cute dogs in general though and I loved the book so it was worth it but the pug

Blue – Peace/Harmony – what is your ultimate OTP?

I wouldn’t call Leah and Abby my ‘ultimate’* OTP, but I do love them and shipped them a lot during Leah on the Offbeat – definitely an OTP!

* What even IS an ultimate OTP like I can’t have only one I love so many ships and it really depends on whether I’ve just (re)read a book because at some point I’ll slowly start to forget about it and obsess over the next ship?? Like half the time I even forget pretty much all of my ships because I’m a goldfish and if I don’t see them?? I forget they exist

Violet – Spirit – pick a book that speaks to you on a personal level

Definitely Queens of Geek! This was one of the first books I truly felt represented in multiple ways: both the bi rep and the anxiety rep was so so on point. Like Charlie never realising that she had crushes on female celebrities, just thinking she admired them a lot?? SAME.

Brown – POC LGBT Pride – pick a book featuring queer characters of color

Are you all getting tired of me yelling about Anger is a Gift yet because listen I still barely see it around so SOMEONE has to yell about it all the time and that someone is me because I love this book to pieces and it’s so important yet also so underrated *sobs* Please read Anger is a Gift all of the main characters are either brown or black and Moss’ friend group is very queer (even a trans friend and a nonbinary friend!!)

I tag whoever wants to do this!

Have you read any of these? Which books would you use for your answers? Let me know in the comments!

What Do You Mean We’re Halfway Through 2017

It’s time to freak out again over the fact that time flies by so fast and what better way to do that than to freak out over books? We’re already past the halfway point, but oh well! Thank you Shouni for tagging me  for the Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag! If you haven’t yet, go check out her blog.

1. BEST BOOKS YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2017?

I’m lazy and don’t have a picture of The Hate U Give #rip

2. BEST SEQUEL OF 2017 SO FAR

3. NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET, BUT YOU WANT TO

Ummm so many?? CAN 2017 EITHER STOP PUBLISHING SO MANY AMAZING BOOKS OR GIVE THEM ALL TO ME FOR FREE THANKS

To name a few: The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, Not Your Sidekick, Want, The Epic Crush of Genie Lo, Heroine Worship and so many others it’s not funny

4. MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE OF THE SECOND HALF OF 2017?

Though I’m really excited for the third Magnus Chase book!

5. BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

It’s Not Like It’s a Secret. I have SUCH mixed feelings towards this book, but I can’t say I loved it and I’m definitely disappointed. It had a lot of potential but alas. Read my review here

6. BIGGEST SURPRISE

I’m surprised that I didn’t enjoy The Dark Prophecy as much as I thought I would. I absolutely loved The Hidden Oracle, and while I did enjoy the The Dark Prophecy, I didn’t love it which was definitely a surprise. You can read my review here.

good surprise was Heroine Complex. While I was really excited when I picked it up and had high expectations, I wasn’t sure if I’d actually love it once I started. Thankfully my initial expectations and excitement were met and I absolutely loved it. I can’t wait to read the sequel. You can read my review here.

7. FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR (DEBUT OR AUTHOR TO YOU)

I’d definitely read anything Jen Wilde and Angie Thomas write. I also fell in love with Jenny Han’s writing, though I’m not sure if I’d actually pick up everything she’s written, since The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy just doesn’t appeal to me

8. NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH

I don’t think I really have one? Unless it counts that I now love Gilbert Blythe even more than I did last year when I first read Anne of Green Gables. I did love a lot of the new characters I encountered, just wouldn’t call anyone of them a crush I think.

9. NEWEST FAVORITE CHARACTER

Alex Fierro from Magnus Chase and Taylor from Queens of Geek. While there are many new favourites, I’m going to limit myself to these two.

10. BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY

The Hate U Give

11. A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and Ps. I Still Love You. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO READ THIS

12. FAVORITE BOOK TO MOVIE ADAPTATION YOU’VE SEEN THIS YEAR

Uh do comics count? Cause in that case like Shouni I’ll choose Wonder Woman as well. I don’t recall having seen a book adaptation this year? But it’s okay cause I’ll gladly choose Wonder Woman. If you haven’t seen it yet, what are you waiting for?? IT’S AMAZING*

* I started writing this post weeks ago so by now I assume you’ve all seen it already if not let me drag you to the cinema right now

13. FAVORITE REVIEW YOU’VE WRITTEN THIS YEAR?

My review for Queens of Geek! I absolutely loved writing it

14. MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT OR RECEIVED THIS YEAR?

The Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone Hufflepuff edition that I got for my birthday it’s so beautiful omg. Does anyone know if they’ll re-release the other books in the House editions as well?

15. WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR?

Since this is a pretty popular tag this time of the year, I won’t be tagging anyone in specific. If you want to do this tag, consider yourself tagged!

What’s your favourite book of the year? And the prettiest one you got? Let me know in the comments!

The Book Aesthetics Tag

After doing the Blogger Aesthetics Tag, I wondered if there was a tag in which you had to make book related aesthetics. I couldn’t find one (if there is let me know!) so naturally I made on myself

Rules

💛 Thank whoever nominated you (maybe you’re bitter that you have ANOTHER tag to do on top of the billions you already need to do (#relatable), still though. Someone thought of you. Be thankful. At least pretend to be
💛 Credit the creator of this tag (I feel so… weird, asking for credits?
💛 There’s no limit of how many aesthetics you can make for a question, but think of your poor readers. Even me, an aesthetics hoe, might get tired after 50 aesthetics (I doubt anyone would make/share that many for this tag I just like to exaggerate \_(ツ)_/¯
💛 Make your OWN aesthetics, please don’t steal them from someone else. Also what’s the fun in that?

Favourite book of the year

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde

I’ve read more books that I loved, but so far none have been able to surpass these two. They both have important messages, are well-written and have great characters. I haven’t gotten around to reviewing The Hate U Give Yet (I keep putting it off because I feel like everything has been said already?) but you can read my review for Queens of Geek here.

Character you relate to a lot

Taylor from Queens of Geek

There are more characters I relate to, but boy did I relate a lot to Taylor (Charlie as well, but less so). Her anxiety was so well written I could cry. If you want to know more about why I related so much to Taylor (wow this sounds like clickbait but in reality I’m just lazy and don’t want to repeat myself promise) read my review.

A character you look up to

Charlie from Queens of Geek

Hermione Granger

A lot of us look up to Hermione (I also relate to her a lot, but I wanted to give my girl Taylor some love), so I don’t think I need to explain why I look up to her. I also wanted to include Charlie though, cause though I looked up to Taylor as well I didn’t want to repeat myself (the things she did despite her anxiety were incredibly inspiring). I absolutely loved Charlie and how she’s able to express herself, be herself and speak her mind like that is really something to look up to. Not to mention what an incredible friend she is. She may not have anxiety herself, but she gets Taylor so well and she’s always there for her. We should all aspire to be a friend like Charlie.

As much as I love Queens of Geek I promise I’m done talking about it now (in this post anyway) lmao.

An underrated gem

Heroine Complex by Sarah Kuhn

I absolutely loved Heroine Complex. It was such a fun read and I can’t wait to read the sequel. Basically: Asian female superheroes, fun superhero comic book vibes, girls supporting girls, sisters and a healthy romance. What more could you want? Review hopefully coming this week!

A character that deserves more love

Piper McLean from Heroes of Olympus

Agatha Wellbelove from Carry On

The hatred for Piper may have already passed, but a while back (I think around the time Blood of Olympus was published?) I came across so much hatred for Piper. And for ridiculous reasons! Because she thinks Jason is better than Percy?? Yeah the girl’s in love of course she’s going to think that, and she’s entitled to that opinion? I don’t remember the other reasons, but none of them were sounded. I honestly don’t get it. I love Piper with my entire heart. Fell in love with her the moment she appeared. She’s a daughter of Aphrodite, who kicks ass, uses words to get out of sticky situations (Charm speak), is an amazing and supportive friend, and so much more?? Fight me haters.

Agatha is disliked and hated on a lot. Especially when Carry On was first published a lot of reviews mentioned that they didn’t like her. Meanwhile I love my daughter. I love that she chose herself, realised that she never really loved Simon, didn’t want to be the prize for the hero at the end of the quest, just kidnapped a dog (or should I say… dognapped *finger guns*) and went to L.A. to live there happily ever after. Basically I adore Agatha and would fight for her too

An underrated OTP

Danny and Colton from Timekeeper

Timekeeper by Tara Sim did get a bit of buzz back when it was released last year, but I feel that it’s really underrated. Which is a shame because it’s amazing? It was my favourite book of 2016 (read my review here) and Danny and Colton played a huge part in that, since their romance is a huge part of the plot. They’re adorable. The relationship is pure and emotional and just so damn healthy. Apparently I declared it my favourite romance of 2016 and I still stand by that.

I TAG

Marie | Lia | Kat | Fadwa | CW | YOU

Don’t feel obligated to do this!

If you want to do this tag (whether I’ve tagged you directly or not), but don’t really know how to make aesthetics: stay tuned! I’ve got a tutorial coming this Tuesday (you may be thinking: Michelle, why didn’t you get that up BEFORE this tag? Well… I was really excited about this tag and wanted to post it… So… Sorry?)

Are any of these books/characters/ships among your favourites as well? Which ones would you have picked? Let me know in the comments!

Forgive Me Books for I Have Sinned | The Reader Confession Tag

Thank you Holly for tagging me! It’s time for me to confess some sins, but it would be a real sin if you didn’t check out Holly’s blog, so what are you waiting for?

Let’s confess some sins

Guys I was so thrilled when I found this?? This meme + a pug?? 🙏🏻

Have you ever damaged a book?

Haven’t we all? I know a lot of us like to pretend we’re saints and would NEVER hurt a book, but… guys we’re only human (well as far as I’m aware, maybe some of you guys aren’t). It can happen. Sometimes your book gets damaged in your bag, sometimes you drop a book, sometimes you spill a drink or crumbs while reading – and it’s okay. I get wanting to keep your books pretty (believe me damaging a book can ruin my day) but your book will forgive you (unless maybe if we’re talking about The Monster Book of Monsters, then maybe not)

Have you ever damaged a borrowed book?

No, but I did lose a library book as a kid. I kid you not someone stole it from my grandmother’s bag. I remember being really upset, even though it wasn’t my fault at all.

How long does it take you to read a book?

This depends on so many factors. Like the amount of time I have to read and the book itself (the length, whether I’m enjoying it or not etc). So… It can take me a day or it can take me months haha

Books that you haven’t finished?

Oh boy I try to finish books, I really do. But if I’m not enjoying it… I really don’t want to force myself *insert cliche life is short* It has happened that I decided that maybe I’m just not in the mood for it and I’ll try again later, but it’s been two years since I tried to read American Gods and I still haven’t picked it up again. I really enjoyed Gaiman’s other books that I read though, so I might give it another chance someday (with the emphasis on someday)

Hyped/ Popular books you didn’t like?

Welllllll I no longer like Throne of Glass or the Shadowhunters books, but I never liked Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar children, so I’m going to go with that one. I did like the first one, but after that the series went downhill for me.

Is there a book you wouldn’t tell anyone you were reading?

Nah, I’m not ashamed of  any of the books I read.

How many books do you own?

Uh I dunno? I’m sorry but I’m waaaay too lazy to count them haha

Are you a fast reader or a slow reader?

See the ‘how long does it take you to read a book’ question

Do you like to buddy read?

I haven’t really done it, but I like the concept of it!

Do you read better in your head or out loud?

Head. Honestly reading out loud sounds exhausting? I’m so lazy omg

If you were only allowed to own one book, what would it be and why?

Don’t make me choose between my babies

AND THAT’S IT! Now who wants to confess next? If you want to do this tag, consider yourself tagged

Has someone ever stolen a (library) book from you? Do you have any horror stories surrounding damaged books? Let me know in the comments!

The Goodreads Book Tag

Goodreads, what would we bookworms do without it? Probably die under a pile of books or something dramatic like that. Closet Readers tagged me a while ago to do The Goodreads Book Tag, so here we finally are! Don’t forget to check out their blog! Also if you guys want to be friends with me on Goodreads, feel free to add me!

What was the last book you marked as read?

The Stone House by A.K. Benedict, one of the BBC Class books (while I’m writing this anyway. Who knows, maybe I’ll have read something else by the time this goes up. That’d be nice). While the writing was okay, I loved diving back into the world of Class and spending time with my favourite characters. It was definitely a fun read!

What are you currently reading?

Well, according to my Goodreads I’m reading four books right now, but I haven’t read one of them in forever so I should probably remove that for now. I also listed Les Miserables as ‘currently reading’ since I finally started it, but I barely remember the 15 pages (of the 1100+ hahaha) I read, so I’ll have to start over. I am actually reading What She Does Next Will Astound You, a BBC Class book, and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

What was the last book you marked as ‘to read’?

Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan. I think this was on my list before but I deleted it after reading Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares, since I really hated that one (read my review here). But with all the praise I’m willing to give Levithan another chance.

Do you use the star rating system?

I do! Though sometimes I don’t give a book a rating, especially when it comes to single issues from comic books. I just can’t rate those! Also Goodreads you finally gave us the rereading option, maybe we can finally get some half stars?

Are you doing the 2017 reading challenge?

I am! I’m aiming for 100 books and am currently at 79. YAY COMICS

Do you have a wishlist?

Always with me in my head. And technically my to read list on Goodreads is a wishlist too. Also there are the gorgeous editions of books that I already have but need

Who are your favorite authors?

Rick Riordan, J.K. Rowling, Stephen Chbosky, Marissa Meyer, Rainbow Rowell, Patrick Ness – to name a few

Have you joined any groups?

Uuh technically I have. Are they all active? No. Am I active in the groups that are active? I wish

How many Goodreads shelves do you have?

Six: read, currently reading, to read, favourites, manga and on hold. I have tried to make more shelves, but it became a mess so I deleted them and gave up.

I TAG…

All the bookworms who want to do this!

How organised is your Goodreads? Are you doing the Goodreads Challenge? How is it going? Let me know in the comments!

The School Book Tag

Thank you Eve for tagging me! If you’re not familiar with Eve’s awesome blog go check it out now. I haven’t done a tag in ages, but since I’m trying to get back into scheduling posts, what better way to start than with tags? SO LET’S DO THIS.

MATHS

Hmm what (bro)tp to go with today? You know, I haven’t gushed about Percabeth in a long time and they remain one of my favourite book couples. They have a healthy, cute relationship and the build-up was A+

I dunno Les Mis maybe? GUYS DID I MENTION I FINALLY, AFTER FOUR YEARS OR SO OF IT BEING ON MY SHELF, STARTED LES MIS? Cause I did. I’m only like ten pages in but liking it so far. Since I’m not that far in yet I don’t know if I would like to dissect it, but since it’s huge and has a lot of characters I think it would be a great choice to dissect *nods*

PHYSICS

a book with a lot of potential

I’m going with a book I haven’t read yet. There are SO many though, but I recently bought Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin Talley and it sounds amazing. Definitely has a lot of potential so I hope it won’t let me down.

CHEMISTRY

a book I really bonded to

The Perks of Being a Wallflower hands down. I definitely bonded to Harry Potter as well, but I felt that was a bit of a cliché answer haha. I relate so much to Charlie and I love this book so much. Damn, I need a reread.

ENGLISH

a book that should be a modern classic

Aaaah okay I don’t like giving the same answer twice but… The Perks of Being a Wallflower. It is so well-written and such an important book. It definitely should be a modern classic.

P.E.

a book that I raced to the finish with

While I didn’t finish it within a day or anything (because school yay) the last book that I raced to finish was Magnus Chase and the Hammer of Thor (which I really need to review).

MUSIC

a book that reminds me of a song

Hmm I’m not sure? I do have songs that reminds me of books, but not really the other way around. So I’m going to be boring and not choose an answer here

I’ll be tagging: Lia | Kwante | Hannah

Don’t feel obligated to do this!

What book reminds YOU of a song? And what’s your favourite subject and why? Let me know in the comments!

The Totally Should’ve Book Tag

Thank you Kayleigh, Makayla and Calliope for tagging me! Go check out all their blogs guys. I’m kind of worried that I won’t be able to come up with answers for all of these, but we’ll see haha.

1) A book that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE had a sequel

My mind is already going blank help. OH CARRY ON. But I don’t just want a sequel. I want prequels too since this takes place in their final year. And then a sequel. I don’t care if it’s just Simon, Baz and Penny hanging out. I need it.

2) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE had a Spin-Off series

Okay but, does it surprise anyone when I say Harry Potter? Because I’m still waiting for a Marauders book series.

3) An author who TOTALLY SHOULD write more books

All of them. Okay not all of them but all my faves. Also it’s time for Rainbow Rowell to publish another book *hint hint* And what is Stephen Chbosky doing? I know Francesca Zappia is writing and hopefully a new book will be out soon. J.K. Rowling and Rick Riordan are busy writing (bless Uncle Rick for bringing out two books every year). Seriously I want more books from all my faves, though I don’t except Rick Riordan to write even MORE every year. The poor man deserves a break.

4) A character who TOTALLY SHOULD’VE ended up with someone else

Whoever that girl was that ended up with Aspen (I forgot her name sorry). She was a cinnamon role and I hate Aspen with a passion. She deserved better (I can’t think of other ships that I didn’t agree with haha)

5) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE ended differently

The Maze Runner trilogy sort of? OH THAT REMINDS ME OF A BETTER OPTION FOR QUESTION 4. BUT SPOILERS. I’M SO PISSED ABOUT IT. Okay spoiler in white: Newt and Teresa deserved better, and Thomas should’ve ended up with one of them #TeamThomesa #TeamNewtMas not #ThomasandBrendaWhateverTheirShipNameIsWhoCaresNotMe Why did two rounded, interesting characters have to die and why did Brenda-I’m-Only-Here-To-Establish-A-Love-Triangle-Wait-What’s-Her-Last-Name get to live

6) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE had a movie franchise

Percy Jackson. What do you mean there are already PJ movies? Hahaha don’t be silly those don’t exist outside of our nightmares*

* No offence to the cast especially Logan Lerman and to the people who enjoyed the movies

7) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE had a TV show

HARRY POTTER. Harry PotterHarry Potter. And did I mention Harry Potter? They would be able to include SO MUCH MORE if they made it into a tv show. I mean I love the cast, but I need this. I mean obviously I’d also be terrified if they did this but still. I NEED IT.

8) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE only have one point of view

Uuuh I have no idea help

9) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE had a cover change

The Parasol Protectorate series.

I’m just not a fan of these covers. BUT I LOVE THESE BOOKS SO MUCH. Maybe I should do a reread so I can write a post on why you should read these too (they would also make a fab tv show by the way)

10) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE kept the original covers

I really don’t have an answer for this one

11) A series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE stopped at book #1

I can’t think of any, so I’m going to steal Kayleigh’s answer and say that The Selection should’ve stopped after The One. I still haven’t read the last two, but I also don’t really have the motivation. The story was over. It was nicely wrapped up. There was no need for more books. I don’t think I’ve heard anything positive about the last two either.

Aaand I won’t be tagging anyone specific again. I’m really sorry, but I’m lazy and looking up who to tag takes quite some time and I’m just trying to get as many posts scheduled as I can (I’m writing this in August. AUGUST. This will go up in October. I’m so proud of myself) but if you want to do this consider yourself tagged!

What are some of your answers to these? What is a tv show or movie adaptation you really want to see? Let me know in the comments!

Around The World In YA Books Tag

Thank you Cátia for tagging me and sorry that it took me like a year to do this. If you haven’t yet, check out her blog!

The Rules

List a country, and then show which favourite book of yours is set in that country. You can use the countries I have used, add your own, or use completely different ones!

FRANCE

How can I not go with Anna and the French Kiss? Speaking of which, it’s time for a reread… Though of course I could also go with Scarlet, another favourite, though I feel more like I’m in France while reading Anna then while reading Scarlet.

CANADA

I recently read Anne of Green Gables, and while I didn’t think I would like it at first since the beginning was pretty slow, I fell in love.

CHINA

Like Cátia, I’m going with Cinder. Sadly I haven’t read that many books set in China (if any besides Cinder? My memory is terrible), but this one is also one of my favourites of course.

THE UK

I could be original and not go with Harry Potter, but where’s the fun in that?

JAPAN

Harriet goes to Japan in Model Misfit and it’s GLORIOUS. I love Japan and it really felt like I was there with Harriet. I love Harriet, her story and the supporting characters by themselves, but in Japan? Sign me up

Okay so I won’t tag anyone specific again, so if you want to do this, feel free to do so! What is a country you want more YA books set in? Let me know in the comments!
