Manchester Week 1: A Beautiful Library and Town Hall And RIP My Wallet I Found The Disney Store

So in my previous post I said I might talk more about my first few days in Manchester in a weekly wrap up, but I decided a separate post would be better – so here we are!

WEDNESDAY

I had to get up early to catch my flight, but unfortunately it turned out my flight had been delayed. Check-in times and such hadn’t been changed though, so I still had to leave early. I hadn’t brought a book with me, since that would take up extra space and weight, but since I had to wait about three hours I ended up buying It Only Happens In The Movies by Holly Bourne at the airport. I’m glad I did, because I was stressed enough and if I had to wait three hours I needed something to keep me distracted.

I was supposed to fly at 10, but in the end I flew at 13:30 and arrived at my room at 15:00 UK time. I had planned to unpack, get some groceries, explore the area and then write the post I now wrote on Friday, but since nothing went according to plan* I didn’t really have the time and energy for that, so I just unpacked, got some groceries, face timed my mom and watched Power Rangers 2017**

* Not just the delayed flight, but a broken handle on a suitcase, apparently I had only paid for one suitcase so I had to pay extra, my dumb ass who had flown I don’t know how many times had put scissors in my carry-on and who knows what else

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY

On Thursday and Friday I had my introduction days for international students. I had first gotten an email that said it would start at 10:30, but then another one that that was a mistake and I had to be there at 11:00. Except when I arrived a little before 11 almost everyone was already there?? Thankfully I didn’t miss anything though.

We got some general information and a police officer who talked about safety and traumatised me, but when I told my friend back home she was like ‘you’re from Amsterdam no one needs to tell you to be careful’. She has a point but my anxiety was like ‘ALERT ALERT STAY IN YOUR ROOM AFTER DARK’. We also had a library tour which was of course a lot of fun.

After the introduction I went grocery shopping with my new friend, but we were mesmerised by a pretty building that turned out to be the Manchester Museum. There weren’t any grocery stores that way (maybe if we had walked any further but it was basically our first day there and it would get dark soon, so we didn’t want to get too far away from the campus) so after looking at the courtyard next to the museum (which is part of the other university) we went back to campus and went to a convenience store there.

Friday was a lot more fun, since we got a tour through Manchester. Unfortunately it was only an hour – the guide had so much to tell I just want to kidnap him and bring him with me everywhere*

* If there are any cops reading this I am joking

Seriously everything was so interesting and I’m afraid I’ve have forgotten everything.

After the tour my friend and I went back into the center and did some shopping.

Me: is worried about money
Also me: *buys Hedwig pillow*

In my defense, I’ve wanted this pillow since forever, but they never sold it at the Primark back home? So yeah I caved

We also went to a pound shop where I made some sensible adult purchases*

* And skittles and chocolate

The Town Hall at night

SATURDAY

Since I had the day off I wanted to take this chance to explore the city a bit. I still didn’t have my timetable though, so I went to the students union since nothing else was open. I still don’t have a timetable as I’m writing this, but thankfully the programme leader is super nice and sent me when all the lectures are and seminars that I can join for now until I have my timetable.

I don’t remember what this building is but it’s pretty

Our tour guide from Friday had told us that the Town Hall will be closing in two weeks for six years and that it was worth a visit, so since I didn’t know how busy I’d be once classes start, I decided to go right away.

You can easily walk to the center from the campus* and the weather was nice, so why not?

* Though I’m definitely thinking of getting a bus pass because it’s all fun and games now but soon I’m used to my surroundings and I’ll just be suffering in the cold

Before I went to the Town Hall I decided to visit the Central Library* which was absolutely gorgeous. They also had a small exhibition related to Harry Potter so obviously I had to check that out.

* Surprise – not lol

I went to every floor to make sure I didn’t miss anything, but of course not everything was super exciting.

Afterwards I finally went to the Town Hall which definitely is worth a visit. It’s such a shame that most of it is closed for the public, because I wanted to see more haha

I considered doing some more sightseeing, but I didn’t want to do too much in one day and I also wanted to go back to the pound shop since my socially anxious self wanted her own mug and bowl  because I was too scared to ask if I could use any of the mugs and bowls in the cupboards. Besides, when I got here the kitchen was… It wasn’t THAT bad but it was certainly dirty and it made me think twice about using anything there. Thankfully my third roommate arrived Sunday and suddenly things were a lot cleaner and cleared up, but I still don’t want to use the kitchen*

* I also don’t want to ask if I can use anything and if I have to actually cook there I’ll have to spend more time there which will increase the chance of running into someone have I mentioned I’m pretty much Cath from Fangirl right now

The pound shop is inside the Arndale Shopping Center, which I had explored a bit with my new friend on Friday, but today I ended up in a different part where uhhh I discovered the Disney Store

All together it was eight pounds, I doubted the Christmas Tsum Tsums* would be there for much longer and well, I couldn’t resist the other Minnie Mouse (she smells like Apple Blossoms omg). And now I’m going to save my money to hopefully buy an Easter Stitch that will be sold starting this February 🙈

* Which were on sale!

After looking around a bit more at the shopping center I started my way back home and once I got there I was really glad I had bought Cup a Soup the other day because I was too tired to go out again. I managed to avoid my housemates yet again and am now convinced that they must think I’m a ghost or something*

* I met two of them on Friday and then awkwardly left to stay in my room all night

Sunday wasn’t too exciting – I cleaned, vacuumed, did some grocery shopping and then stayed in all night, rewatched One Day At A Time and tried to cry silently at the finale. If you haven’t watched ODAAT yet, please do so. It’s such a gem and season 2 will come out later this month so you’ll be right in time

All in all, this has been an eventful, stressful but I guess also fun week. It’s weird to be away from home, especially without any family or friends. By the time this goes up I’ll have had my first classes and I have no idea how busy I’ll be. It does help that I can be home within five minutes haha. Anyway, I hope to at least tell you guys about this coming week next week and read some blogposts, but I can’t promise anything. I’m trying to keep my Instagram updated if you want to check if I’m still alive, but uh I kinda suck at Instagram.

UPDATE: I know updates are usually written after a post has gone up, but I hadn’t gotten around to scheduling this yet before classes started, and just wanted to let you guys know that I met my third housemate and she’s really nice

Have you studied abroad? And/or been to Manchester? Tell me all about it in the comments!

London Day 3 | My Search For Baymax Continues and My Opinion On The Cursed Child

Read here about day 1, a.k.a the day I abandoned my family to stalk a pug and read here about day 2, when we went to the Disney Store and saw Harry Potter and The Cursed Child Part I

Wow look at that another post about London in the year 2017! And probably the last one of 2017 because with my procrastination skills I doubt I’ll be able to write the other two this month haha.

After breakfast we set out to Harrods, but first we stopped so I could take some pictures around the hotel. I only ended up only taking two because my camera malfunctioned. My old camera was really at the end of its life. At times it kept changing between menus without me even doing something, so sometimes it was impossible to take a picture.

Look how charming the area surrounding our hotel was! I was in love

On the metro to Harrods we got a lovely live concert. A few guys with some instruments suddenly boarded and just started playing?? That never happens in The Netherlands. Not that I ride the metro that often but one time a woman just started humming and then that turned into some weird singing/yelling and before we knew it she was telling someone they were going to burn in hell??*

* By then she had already gotten off, so she was yelling it from the platform, but still

So yeah Harrods! Harrods is mostly very expensive, but it looks so festive during the holidays, the toys department is fun and oh yeah they have a Disney store haha**

** It’s not like I’ve already been to a Disney store the day before haha

Okay but seriously, the Christmas department is definitely worth checking out:

Unfortunately my camera ruined my other pictures*, but isn’t this cute?? Though be warned: THE CHRISTMAS STUFF MAKES YOU GREEDY

* Though there is this gem:

I have no clue what is happening here or what I’m doing?? Hiding???

We also checked out the toys department, because like I said, that’s always fun, but I don’t have any pictures and my memory is failing me. I do remember that I bought my Paddington plush there though!

Our next stop was Harrods Disney Store. While smaller than the Disney Store from the day before, it’s definitely charming and worth a visit if you’re there anyway. If only for this cute display:

Brb I’m dying again of cuteness I just wanted to jump in and lie there forever*

* I’d refuse to get up to so if you ever see a headline ‘WOMAN REFUSES TO LEAVE CAR FULL OF DISNEY PLUSHIES’ it’s me

Afterwards we decided to drink something at their Disney cafe, which was Toy Story themed. The prices were a bit much, but I loved their decorations.

Oh no now the secret’s out. Sorry guys, I’ve been keeping this a secret for a while now but… I’m actually a toy. I’ve been keeping this blog up from my own box. All the stories and pictures on this blog up until October last year – fake.

This picture was taken mere seconds before my escape. I now live on the run from all the toy companies, so please keep my secret okay? Just pretend THIS story is fake, instead of all the other ones. Treat it like a joke #keepmichellesafefromthetoycompanies

Okay, so I have NO CLUE what happened next. All I know is that my mom and I split up from my aunt and cousin, because they wanted to go back to the hotel and rest a bit before The Cursed Child part II and I wanted to go to the Disney Store at Oxford Street because it’s the biggest one in London so I definitely wanted to see it. Plus it was my last chance at finding Baymax.

While I loved all the Disney Stores I visited, if you only have the time to visit one I definitely recommend the one at Oxford Street. Not just because it’s the biggest, but also because it’s just so cute and charming.

LOOK HOW BIG THAT DUMBO IS?? IT’S GIGANTIC. Also that Pua wasn’t for sale #rude but it’s fine I  ordered one later #didimentionihaveaplushiesproblem

I still hadn’t found Baymax and I had already accepted that I would go home without him* Then I noticed a Dopey plush, which I picked up to take a picture with because he’s always reminded me of my grandfather**

Look how cute!!

* This sounds so dramatic lmao then again I take my love for Baymax very serious
** He too has big ears. I’m pretty sure this similarity is why Dopey has always been my favourite dwarf

Then when I put Dopey back in the pile where I got him from, lo and behold: BAYMAX WAS STARING AT ME

That photo was taken mere seconds after I found him so that’s not me posing that’s me being over the moon lmao #iwas19

As soon as we had paid (I had also bought a small Alice in Wonderland Tsum Tsum bag) we hurried back to get some lunch/dinner and get ready at the hotel before part II of The Cursed Child

Have I mentioned before how beautiful the theatre is? Especially at night it’s simply magical

If you’ve read the script you know that part I ends with a cliffhanger and a twist, which they implemented in the theatre. There were several decorations and the merch had changed too. They were now also selling a book about the show that featured behind the scenes stuff, which of course they couldn’t sell the evening before because of spoilers. It made a great souvenir so I just had to get it. If you paid a little extra you got a bag with it, and well, I’m a sucker for tote bags and this is Harry Potter we’re talking about.

Also I now noticed that the Snitch nest thing* was also inside the theatre

After getting snacks** we made up our way to our seats again, but while going down the stairs I uh… I fell

This is pretty much what happened?? Except I fell a little further

We had all been paying attention to my aunt, that we had forgotten about clumsy old me haha. It hurt a bit, but I was fine. Though a lot of employees came to check up on me and by the time the manager got there I was starting to feel a bit silly since I wasn’t badly hurt lol. We did make a new friend that way though! The girl who was standing there welcoming people into the theatre, answering questions etc who was the first one to rush towards me as I made my way downtown** was really lovely and fun to talk to. She was so excited to be working there.

She offered to take our picture which was honestly such a blessing because the selfies we tried to take in our seats were… not flattering lmao

* I STILL DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT THAT THING IS?
** Or maybe this was yesterday?? I DON’T KNOW. All I remember is me being stupid and being like ‘I’M GONNA FINISH THEM ALL’ and basically eating until I was nauseous :’) why am I like this
*** I couldn’t resist

We talked to her until the play started, speaking of which…

What did I think of The Cursed Child?

It’s been over a year since the script came out, but there are still a lot of feelings towards The Cursed Child, positive or negative. I don’t know how I would feel if I had only read the script, but I definitely understand why people are upset. Are there things I don’t agree with? Absolutely. There was some out of character stuff that upset me, but as you can’t just put a play on pause I couldn’t really stop and think about it, while you can easily do that while reading the script. So what is my verdict of this play? Let’s put it in a list (there will be some minor spoilers!):

💛 All in all, a really good play
💛 As a whole, I don’t see it as canon though
💛 That said, Hermione being Minister for Magic? Albus and Scorpius relationship?* CANON
💛 Harry being a crappy father to Albus though? HAHAHA NO
💛 Seriously what’s with sequels turning the previous protagonist in crappy dads**
💛 THE SPECIAL EFFECTS HOLY WHAT HOW
💛 Seriously the way they portrayed magic?? INCREDIBLE. I didn’t know what I was expecting, but certainly not THAT
💛 The costumes? The set? The music? On POINT
💛 The cast? FANTASTIC. If some characters were (sometimes) out of characters, it was not the actors fault. They are all very, very talented and were just working with what they were given
💛 Also all of them had incredible chemistry with each other
💛 The plot line was… kinda weird and I remember after part 1 thinking ‘so THAT’S why people are calling it fan fiction’ but it was fun as a play especially when you decide that this isn’t canon anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️
💛 Not enough Rose. I love the focus on Albus and Scorpius and their friendship, but really would’ve loved to have seen Rose get more depth and development
💛 Despite my dislikes and disagreements, I really loved it and wanted to see it again afterwards

* Well minus the big NO HOMO part I mean those boys are in love????
** Looking at you Legend of Korra why did you do Aang dirty like that

FINAL VERDICT: A good play, definitely worth seeing, but in my opinion not canon

And with that, our main reason for coming to London was over, just like that. It felt so weird as I had looked forward to it for so long, but it was definitely worth it. I’d recommend it to those who hated the script as well, though I’d understand if you wouldn’t want to spend any money on it.

What did you think of The Cursed Child, play or script? (or both!) What’s your favourite play? Do you have a Baymax plushie? Or another Disney plushie? Let me know in the comments!

Guess Who’s Back + Where I’ve Been | Life Update

Soooo I didn’t mean to disappear like that? Of course I hadn’t been blogging as regularly as I would’ve liked once I ran out of scheduled posts, but at least I got one or two posts up per week until…

School suddenly got very, very hectic. I was busy at the start of term, but I was still able to blog here and there and read some blogposts. Then we got to the point where we had to rely more on each other and the real group work began… And half our group didn’t do anything or did such terrible work that it was obvious they expected others to fix it for them. It was incredibly stressful and gave me a lot of sleepless nights, and now that it’s finally over I’ve of course come down with a cold. My friend and I emailed our teacher in detail about our group, and she said that the group members who didn’t do their shit are going to notice it in their grades. I’m so relieved to see her taking it seriously and even thanking us for our email. I was really worried that she was going to have a ‘not my problem’ attitude.

Anyway, this term is over!

I am proud of the magazine we made, even though I know it could’ve been better. Considering all our setbacks and that half of our group didn’t take it seriously at all, we really did a good job.

So now what? Well…

I’m taking a break from school

Honestly if I were to go back in time and tell secondary school me that at some point I’d take a break from college she wouldn’t believe me. Thing is, because I’m starting my term abroad earlier than I was initially told, I actually can’t follow any classes this term, because that would only be six weeks. I had signed up for a course last year when planning my year, but after lots of emailing back and forth with different teachers, it turned out I couldn’t do a big part of the course this term. I could’ve followed the more theoretical classes, but I didn’t want to take the exams while in Manchester since I would be really busy with my classes over there, so I’d have to take them when I’m back anyway. I figured there’d be no point in taking part of the course now, so I’m instead taking it when I get back from Manchester.

I’m actually more than fine with this break – my year is generally still the same as I had initially planned, just a slightly different order and my stay abroad will be shorter (I’ve talked about this before, but since I’m going to England I’ll be there for three months while other people will be studying abroad for five). So at least I won’t have any delay in my studies.

I pretty much had a burnout last school year and once this one started I was actually not ready to go back yet, so this break is actually very welcome. Especially after the second half of last term.

Basically this means that I’ll be able to blog regularly again! I might have to try and find my footing first, since I’m kind of out of my rhythm again and like I mentioned I have a cold, but I hope to at least post once a week again.

What else have I been up to?

💛 I got new glasses!

My previous glasses were super comfortable and gave me horrible headaches, so I barely wore them and always wore my contacts, but it was really annoying in the morning as I had to quickly put in my contacts before I got a headache and technically you need to take your contacts out about an hour before you go to sleep, which I never did anymore woops. I really love my new glasses – they’re cute and so comfortable!
💛 I’ve worked quite a bit at the museum – like during Museum Night, which is an annual event in multiple cities (though not at the same time) during which museums throughout the city are open until 2 AM. There’s lots to do (workshops, panel discussions, dancing, watching the art itself of course) and our Museum Night had a Keith Haring/80’s theme. It was a lot of fun and I’m really proud of what we accomplished
💛 My cousin turned eight and he had a Moana cake!! And he continuously said that he loved the movie!!
💛 My mom, aunt, cousin (another one) and I went to a collector’s fair – it was fun but there were also quite a few people just selling trash for a high price? I also find it hilarious to see what kind of stuff people collect – that stuff was so normal back in the day. It’s like if I were to keep a Coca Cola bottle for 40+ years and then try to sell it for 20+ euros lmao*
💛 I watched Lemonade Mouth and fell in love please watch that movie it’s amazing. The moment it ended I wanted to watch it again which barely ever happens
💛 I decided to treat myself and finally buy Disney Magical World 2 – if you’re not familiar with that gaming franchise: it’s amazing. It’s a bit like Animal Crossing but with Disney and an RPG element. It’s really cute, fun and relaxing. Must have for every Disney fan. Anyway I’m a bit obsessed – oops
💛 There’s probably other stuff I’d mention but… I don’t remember any of it

* Guys I’m onto something here we should all start to collect our trash so we can sell it in 40+ years

So that’s where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to. I’m hoping to post again soon sometime this week and to read some of your posts, but we’ll see how it goes with this stupid cold.

How have all of you been??? Tell me everything. How’s school/work going? Done anything fun? Read anything good? Or read something that I should stay far away from? Any posts I’ve missed that you’re particularly proud of? Let me know in the comments!

The Book Fangirling Award – Another One From 2015

Some day I might be all caught up on awards and tags, but today is certainly not that day. Thank you Cátia for nominating me and sorry that it took me almost two years

Rules:

  • Create a post to accept your award.
  • Answer the questions below.
  • Nominate between 5-10 book bloggers who you think also deserve this award.
  • Come up with your own 5 questions for your nominees.

I’m lazy so I won’t be nominating anyone but if you want to do it consider yourself nominated!

1. Book series or standalones? Why?

I know I have to choose but… Both? It can be nice knowing that the story will be over after one book and you won’t have to wait for the next one to see how the story will unfold, but series are so much fun too! I love seeing the story unfold over multiple books, see the characters grow etc.

2. Did you watch anime/cartoons when you were younger? Which ones?

YES! Pokemon of course, but also Yu-Gi-Oh, Sailor Moon, Super Pig (please tell me I’m not the only one who remembers that one?), Winx Club, Totally Spies, Martin Mystery, Avatar the Last Airbender of course, Ojamajo Doremi, Digimon, Shaman King, so many Disney cartoons like the 101 Dalmatians one, the Aladdin one, Buzz Lightyear… There were so many I can’t remember all of them haha.

Little me thought this was SO clever and hilarious she cried tears of laughter

3. Tell me a music that reminds you of your childhood/early teens.

Oh good question. I really need to think about that one haha. Umm there’s this Dutch song. I have no idea what it’s called but the part I’m talking about goes like this (translated from Dutch): ‘Coffee! Coffee! Delicious cup of coffee. Guys who’d like a cup?’ I sang this a lot with my grandmother, but I don’t remember how this became a thing

4. Favorite movie growing up?

According to my mom: Beauty and the Beast, The Rescuers and The Little Mermaid. Those were the ones she had to sit through the most haha. I also adored Winnie the Pooh and Lilo and Stitch.

The Rescuers is SO UNDERRATED. Also I need to rewatch it

5. Where do you live? Tell us something about your city (that us tourists can’t read on the books).

Amsterdam, and I’ve been talking about Amsterdam here and there in my supposed to be monthly feature Blogsterdam but of course I’m failing that haha. Hmm what’s something that you can’t read about in a guide book… I’ve never read a guide book about Amsterdam, so maybe you can read this in a guide book, but… I don’t know where I was going with that sentence, because I can’t think of anything?? Haha I suck

Ummm the canal water is supposed to be really clean but I honestly don’t know where I got that from it’s just this random fact filed away in my brain but this could be a really outdated fact?? Don’t quote me and don’t drink the water okay

Like I said, I won’t be tagging anyone but if you want to answer these questions, feel free! What anime/cartoons did you watch when you were younger? And what was your favourite movie as a kid? Let me know in the comments!

Why You Should Watch Disney Descendants

If you followed me back in 2015 or if you happened to stumble upon it, you may have seen my post on Disney Descendants. With the sequel FINALLY being out, my love/obsession has started again and I wanted to talk about why I love it so much and why YOU should give it a chance too.

If you’re not familiar with Descendants, it’s a movie franchise in which all the Disney Villains were sent to the Isle of the Lost, where they’re pretty much prisoners. Their kids never got a chance to prove that they’re different than their parents, and only did what they had to do to survive, thus resorting to villainous ways. The first movie follows Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos, the children of Maleficent, The Evil Queen, Jafar and Cruella de Vill, who are invited to come to Auradon (where all the heroes live) for a ‘second’ chance (I mean they never got a first chance either since they’re being punished for their parents’ actions). This is all set up by Ben, the son of Belle and Adam. The four kids have to attend Auradon prep, where they meet many more kids of the good Disney characters.

So it’s basically fan fiction, except it’s from Disney and Dove Cameron, who plays Mal, said they told her it’s canon. So it’s like The Cursed Child except no one accepts that as canon

Why I love it and why you should give it a chance

Because I said so

💛 DIVERSE CAST! Out of the four original villain kids, only Mal is white. While Jay being the son of Jafar makes sense for him to not be white (or they’d be whitewashing), they didn’t have to cast Sofia Carson, who is Columbian-American, and Cameron Boyce, who’s half black. The Evil Queen is played by a Lebanese-American actress (though I’m a bit disappointed that she isn’t Columbian like Sofia, most movies would’ve gone with a white actress) and Cruella de Vill is black. In the sequel Uma, the daughter of Ursula, plays a big role (and it’s pretty obvious that she’ll return for the third movie), and is played by China Anne McClain who is black. Besides the main characters there is diversity among the supporting and background characters as well. Like Lonnie, the daughter of Mulan (who plays a bigger role in the sequel and just shines) and Audrey, the daughter of Aurora and Philip, is half-Mexican.

💛 FRIENDSHIP! Friendship between girls, friendship between boys, friendship between girls and boys – ALL THE FRIENDSHIP. Mal and Evie love each other so much, they have each others backs and would do anything for each other. They just want what’s best for each other and are never mean to each other. Sure, I ship them romantically (especially after that sequel y’all that was so gay) but I absolutely appreciate and love their friendship.

Jay and Carlos also have a positive relationship (okay I ship them romantically too but I have a lot of ships in this franchise okay), just having fun, supporting each other, having each other’s backs, believe in each other etc.
The four kids are best friends and would risk everything for each other. In the second movie Carlos calls it out that Mal and Evie always leave them and have their ‘girl talk’ and instead they all talk to each other and just mdfsdbg friendship
And the boys are also just supporting and caring towards the girls too they’re just one big happy family guys it’s beautiful

💛 BOYS SHOWING EMOTION. There are multiple moments where Jay and Carlos are not afraid to show that they’re upset and hurt. It breaks my heart but it also my makes me really happy because so many little boys watching Disney Channel can see that there’s nothing wrong with showing emotion

LOOK AT MY SON PROTECT HIM

💛 FEMINISM. There are lots of amazing female characters in these movies, who take the spotlight, kick ass, are smart and talented, support each other, lead pirate crews etc. One of my favourite moments is when Mal tells Evie that she doesn’t have to play dumb to get a guy and that’s she’s so smart. There are so many great rolemodels and important messages for young girls watching these movies and it makes me so happy

💛 THE SOUNDTRACK IS SO GOOD. Look, I loved the first movie’s soundtrack, but the sequel’s??? It’s so good?? Oh did I mention yet this is a musical franchise (directed by the one and only Kenny Ortega from High School Musical but it’s better than HSM please don’t hurt me) because it is and the songs are SO GOOD. AND THE CHOREOGRAPHY. JUST EVERYTHING. Also the sequel has it’s own Gotta Go My Own Way except it’s better because it’s between two girls (not to get your hopes up, they don’t end up together. Not in this one anyway. We can remain hopeful)

💛 IT’S FUN!  I mean it takes place in one of my favourite universes, aka the Disney one. There are so many of my favourite characters, their children, references and everything. Also it’s a musical. Musicals are fun

💛 THE CHARACTERS DUH. Characters can make or break something for me, and I love all my children so much. The villain kids have been through so much, being abused by their parents and being prisoners for something they didn’t even do. They’re all broken but they’re still so pure?? Like they can keep saying ‘we’re rotten to the core’ but they ain’t fooling anyone.
Then there’s Ben who’s just a pure cinnamon roll who needs to protected at all costs and just does his best™, Lonnie aka the love of my life who’s just as kickass as her mom and I love how her arc in the sequel paralleled her mom’s story, Uma who has taken all these poor broken kids on the Isle under her wing and turned them into one awesome pirate crew and just wants her freedom and Harry Hook who’s so Extra™ I have no words I love him

Look at my Extra™ son

p r o t e c t h i m

l o o k  a t  h e r

a n d  h e r

And so many others! Like Doug who never assumes anything about his relationship with Evie and just supports her? He’s just a pure boy? Also they could’ve easily made him whine about the friendzone in the first movie and how nice guys never get the girl but they didn’t. Oh and Gil who’s not even trying to pretend to be a villain??

And obviously I love the original four villain kids too, but I feel like I talk about them enough in the other points and I don’t want to repeat myself

💛 HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS. Okay Audrey’s relationships aren’t exactly healthy, but they’re never written to be perceived that way or romanticised. The relationships that you’re supposed to be rooting for though? They are. Are they all straight? Um yeah it’s Disney Channel, and while a main character on Disney’s The Lodge came out and Andi Mack is definitely going there too, it still has a long way to go. Descendants 2 has been long in the works though, and by the time these two shows went there it was already finished, so maybe these shows paved the way for more LGBTQ+ rep in the third one? Fingers crossed (I mean with Space Between I really feel like Kenny Ortega wanted to go there and Harry Hook ain’t straight y’all)
ANWAY. The relationships we do have, are healthy, supporting, caring, they communicate, they don’t tear each other down… They’re good. There are also interracial relationships.

Also the cast is so sweet, funny, supportive of both each other and the fans and love all their characters’ ships, INCLUDING the same-sex ones unlike a certain other cast *cough Supergirl cough* Basically I love these movies and this cast to pieces and I want to spread the love so I hope I convinced some of you

Did you watch Descendants 2 yet? What do you think of it? Better than the first one? Who are your favourite characters and ships? Are you also listening to the soundtrack non-stop? Let me know in the comments!

Reacting To Negative Moana Reviews

Last night I finally saw Moana and as expected – I loved it. Thankfully it lived up to my expectations (though I expected Pua to play a bigger part but I’ll get over that once I get a Pua plush no worries), yet of course not everyone liked it. That is to be expected. There are people out there who – GASP – dislike Harry Potter

Anyway, somehow I stumbled upon some reviews, and not all of them were positive. I accept that some people might have found it boring, but I just had to write a reaction post to some of these.

There are NO spoilers for Moana. And please don’t take this post TOO seriously.

review1

I saw the complaint of the ‘Disney formula’ quite a lot and I’m just here like: well what did you expect mate? You went to see a Disney film, of course it’s going to be ‘typical Disney’.

review2

Gosh gals, can you imagine what it would be like to be portrayed wrongly?? In all seriousness I wonder where they’re getting the idea that male characters are often portrayed this way, as they say that they’re ‘tired of seeing it’. Um sweetheart, there are a lot of brave male characters? If you mean in Disney: well hello Captain Shang, for example.

But of course the icing of the cake is ‘having sons, it would be nice to see a movie where a young man is the hero’. Those poor boys. Having no male heroes to look up to. Only about 99% of all the heroes. It should be 100%.

Dear reviewer, if you’re looking for a movie with a young man as the hero, might I suggest pretty much any other movie out there?

‘Too many of Disney’s childrens movies feature a heroine with weak male characters around her’ how is Maui weak did we even watch the same film

review3

This reviewer should definitely not watch Les Mis if they couldn’t handle Moana

review4

”I hated this movie lets blame Crooked Hillary”

I mean the start of this review tells you enough you need to know about this person but… I don’t even know where to start?

‘Leading women in every single darn gosh movies’

Please introduce me to all these female-led films that I’ve apparently missed out on

The next one is my favourite though

review5

Moana is turning our daughters into ‘harry’ lonely cat people with no children of their own guys. THE HORROR. Assuming she means ‘hairy’ instead of ‘harry’ I wonder how Moana is going to make  little girls hairy. Are they going to grow more hair everywhere due to seeing this movie? Are they going to refuse to shave their armpits and legs because of it? I am intrigued.

Also dear reviewer, she can watch any other Disney Princess movie (except Brave, I suppose that one will turn little girls into hairy lonely cat people too – also how can a cat person be lonely. THEY HAVE CATS. THEY’RE LIVING THE DREAM)

I’m not going to bother with the other negative reviews. Because while I’m trying to make light of them, they’re also really bumming me out. I mean… you don’t want your daughter to know it’s okay to not have a man? That she can be happy and succesful without one? (also I didn’t even screenshot one that questioned the films logic: ‘HOW CAN A GIRL BECOME CHIEF DOES THE ISLAND HAVE GENDER EQUALITY WHY DO THEY NOT EXPLAIN THIS’ because gender equality should be the norm and not be questioned sweetie)

Have you seen Moana yet? FANGIRL WITH ME IN THE COMMENTS! Unless you didn’t like it, that’s cool too. And if you haven’t seen it yet: WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR

Orlando Day 5 Downtown Disney

Previous posts: Day 1 | Day 2 Part I | Day 2 Part II | Day 3 | Day 4 Part I | Day 4 Part II | Day 4 Part III

I’m finally writing the last one! (this is only a few minutes after I wrote the previous one but it’s still long overdue) This wasn’t our last day, but it is the last post I had planned to write. There’s not much else to write about, except for relaxing, swimming and lots of shopping and I don’t find that very interesting haha.

So without further ado, let’s start!

I have to admit when we first got there we weren’t that impressed and honestly I was super disappointed haha. It didn’t seem very Disney at all.

Then we found this candy store which gave me hope again haha

Though I really didn’t want to buy any candy from the Evil Queen haha. It was especially suspicious that they sold candied apples (LOOK AT THOSE BAYMAX ONES THOUGH)

We found another store selling Marvel stuff but then it looked like the Disney stuff was over and I was worried that I had overhyped it haha

I got really hungry (like always) and really didn’t want to wait for my food any longer haha. I don’t remember what I had, but I think it was good? Also look artsy picture of my Mickey and Minnie bag and Stitch dress. After we had passed through that area things were really looking brighter and I can assure you that Downtown Disney is really worth it

This area focused a lot more on Disney and they played different songs, making me feel right at home.

THIS STORE THOUGH (the one on the right, the other two pictures are from somewhere else). IT’S THE BEST. HERE ARE PICTURES FROM THE INSIDE:

LOOK AT IT. SO BEAUTIFUL. AND ALL THE STUFF THEY SOLD. They sold stuff I had seen at the parks  (like a Beauty and the Beast pillow that I had regretted buying so I got it there), as well as stuff they didn’t sell at the parks. It was glorious

Really loved this display, especially the pun haha

This is from a different store, where they sold a lot of clothes, but what I loved about it was all the art on the walls. There was more, but I chose my favourites to show

There was also a Christmas shop at Downtown, where I found some ornaments they didn’t have at Magic Kingdom, which I’m really happy with! If you’re curious about the ornaments, you can see them here

There is so much cute stuff outside the stores though, like that Winnie the Pooh statue and all the lego statues outside the Lego store. There’s another candy store, but this one is run by Goofy who I trust more than the Evil Queen. I didn’t buy anything, but it all looked so cute.

Last but not least I’ll talk about Once Upon a Toy! Like the name suggests this is a toy store, thus most of the stuff didn’t really interest me. I did think it was cool that you could build your own Mr. Potato Head (see the fifth collage, bottom left side). What I really came for though, where the Tsum Tsums. And I wasn’t disappointed. I didn’t just buy the medium Minnie Mouse pictured, but a few others as well. I bought even more at the Disney Character Outlet at the Premium Outlet a few days later. They had a lot when I was there and cheaper than at Downtown Disney, so really recommend going there! (though that was a year ago so I don’t know how things are now)

I can’t believe I just finished the last post! It’s like the trip is now truly over haha. If you go to Orlando, I really recommend going here as well. We took a cab here, which cost a bit of money, but you can make it as cheap or expensive as you want while you’re there (also pro tip: if there’s a shuttle driving between your hotel and the parks, take a cab to the park where the shuttle picks people up. Saves a lot of money!) It’s a lot of fun, very Disney and magical (I almost went Doge there)

Have you been to Downtown Disney? Who is your favourite Disney villain? Let me know in the comments!

Orlando Day 4 Magic Kingdom III

Previous posts: Day 1 | Day 2 Part I | Day 2 Part II | Day 3 | Day 4 Part I | Day 4 Part II

It’s almost been an entire year since my last post in this series, but I’m determined to see it through even though my memory will be fuzzy.

Okay so I read through my last post and it ended at the Monster Inc. Laugh Floor, so let’s take a look at my pictures to see what we did after that because I don’t remember (this is why you don’t procrastinate kids)

Fun fact: as a kid I used to quote them all the time (‘oooooh’)

Deducting from the pictures and what’s left of my memory, we were quite hungry after that and decided to look for a place to eat. Before we could leave Tomorrowland though, we stumbled upon the Incredibles Super Dance Party, so naturally we stayed for that.

That’s my mom’s bow around Frozone’s neck haha. They also danced together #otp #notreallyFrozonealreadyhasagreatwifewhoisthegreatestgoodheisevergonnaget

pinocchiocollage

We ended up eating at Pinocchio Village Haus, which I personally found really cute and homely. I was wearing my ‘It’s my birthday button’ and thus got a free chocolate dessert which was delicious (of course this I remember what did you expect)

After dinner we made our way through Fantasyland again, as it was getting cooler and a little more bearable to stand in the long, long line for The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Though not without stopping to take some pictures and do some shopping of course

So what do you do while waiting in a super long line in the heat besides complain (kidding, I didn’t complain that much)? Take an artsy picture of the Winnie the Pooh ride of course. Thankfully just like the Pooh ride this line also had interactive games, though I didn’t take any pictures of them woops.

Anyway, the ride was definitely worth waiting for! It’s fun and super cute with the dwarfs and Snow White. I won’t give too much away of course, because spoilers (plus I don’t remember much but ssh)

We walked around a bit after the ride and did some more shopping, but it was soon time for the Main Street Electrical Parade which was so pretty.

Of course it ended with a very American wagon haha. But seriously, the pictures turned out pretty good, but it was so beautiful in real life. The pictures don’t do the magic justice haha.

After that it was time for the fireworks show

IT WAS SO PRETTY AND MAGICAL WITH THE DISNEY SONGS AND QUOTES 100% RECOMMENDED. After that we quickly had to pick up our shopping bags from the pick up point so that we could catch the last shuttle back to the hotel. Obviously I didn’t want to leave, but if we had to grab a taxi back that would’ve cost a lot of money. Besides we were still going to Downtown Disney! And that’s what the last post will cover.

Oh boy, really hope that the last post won’t take me another year to write and post haha

Guys talk Disney to me (someone should make a parody like this on ‘Talk Dirty To Me’ haha). What’s your favourite film? Favourite character? Song? Let me know in the comments!

The Disney Princess Book Tag

Thank you Cátia for tagging me for this awesome tag! I think most of you already know that I love Disney so this tag is perfect.

3 Princess Facts

  1. I can’t choose a favourite Princess. I just can’t. I love them all, though not equally and for different reasons, they hold a special place in my heart. And my favourites? Um. Yeah. I can’t even make a top three. It’s impossible guys
  2. That said I can’t choose a favourite Disney Princess movie either. Then again I can’t choose a favourite Disney film in the first place
  3. I used to have an Aladdin themed room and thus had a big tiger plush named Rajah as well

Snow White – What’s your favorite classic?

The Picture of Dorian Gray, hands down. I really need to read more of Oscar Wilde, I love what I’ve read of his so far and he’s one of my favourite authors and people (who has a TARDIS that I can borrow so I can go meet him)

Cinderella – What book kept you up
way past your bedtime?

My memory is terrible, but I think it was Winter by Marissa Meyer. That book guys. That book. HOW COULD I PUT IT DOWN.

Aurora – What’s your favourite classic romance?

I actually haven’t read that many classic romances, so I’ll go with Pride and Prejudice which I did really enjoy

Ariel – Name a book about making sacrifices
and fighting for your dreams

Well it depends what kind of sacrifices and dreams you’re talking about. There are sacrifices and fighting for dreams in Harry Potter and The Lunar Chronicles for example.

Belle – Name a book with a smart,
independent female character

I wish I could give you an answer that isn’t Hermione Granger but honestly I can’t.

Jasmine – Name a book with a character that challenged the social conventions of his/her world

I’m going to go with the same answer as Cátia and say Alec Lightwood

Pocahontas – Name a book whose ending
was a roller coaster of emotions

Hahaha which book wasn’t (of course there are also a lot of books that weren’t). The latest book that would fit this would be The Ask and the Answer. That ending adnjfs. And I still haven’t gotten my hands on Monsters of Men yet. What is this sorcery

Mulan – Name a book with a kickass female character

How can I choose? I love that it’s hard to choose though, because that means we have a lot to choose from. I’m going with Celaena/Aelin (did I spell her name right oh my god it’s been years and I still doubt my spelling skills when it comes to her name. Thankfully her real name is much easier to spell thank you Sarah)

Tiana – Name a book featuring a
hardworking, self-made character

Alex from Made You Up. She worked really hard to fit in and do well at school.

Rapunzel – A book that features an artist

It took me so long to remember Clary Fray haha. How could I forget her?

Merida – Name a book that features
a mother-daughter relationship

Why is it taking me so long to come up with one?! Oh yeah, because mother-daughter relationships are almost non-existent in (YA) books. OH OH. Molly and Ginny. How could I forget?

Anna & Elsa – A book with a great
relationship between siblings

The Weasley’s are my favourite fictional family and I love the sibling relationships, but I also really love the Lightwoods siblings, especially on the tv show.

Now it’s tagging time! I tag:

Elly | Sophie | Kat

Don’t feel obligated to do this!

Who is your favourite Disney Princess? Or are you like me and you can’t choose? Speaking of Disney Princesses, are you excited for Moana? I just can’t wait for it (and I have been waiting ever since it was announced haha). Let me know in the comments!

The Jungle Book Tag

Hey guys! So I don’t know when the live action The Jungle Book comes out in your country, but it came out in The Netherlands today, so to celebrate I decided (after checking if there wasn’t one already) to create a book tag!

I’m going to try to choose only one book/book series for each question, let’s see how that will go!

The Bare Necessities –
A book that makes you forget about your worries and your strife

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell makes me happy just thinking about it, and while reading it I definitely forgot about my worries and strife (especially considering I was reading it during exam period haha).

I Wanna Be Like You – A character that you want to be like

Izzy from Shadowhunters. Kind of cheating here, but hey it’s a book adaptation, and while I love book!Izzy, I love show!Izzy even more and think she’s such an inspiring young woman.

That’s What Friends Are For –
Fictional friends that you wish were part of your own friend group

I’m saving Harry Potter for a different question, so instead of saying the Golden Trio, I’m going with the Rampion Crew. I would love to travel with them through space or on Earth, or you know, start a revolution.

My Own Home – A book that no matter what, always feels like home

I think it will surprise no one when I say Harry Potter.

Trust In Me – A character you would trust with your life

‘A character you would trust with your life’ I make up for the song sung by a creepy snake (I kid you not he still creeps me out. So does Shere Khan 🙈). Anyway, I would definitely trust Annabeth Chase *nods*

I TAG

YOU! Whoever is excited for The Jungle Book and wants to do it.

Have you seen the new Jungle Book yet? I’m going to see it this Saturday and can’t wait. What is your favourite Jungle Book song? Let me know in the comments!
