The Monthly and Weekly Hufflepuff #60 | I Live

I didn’t mean to skip last week’s wrap up, but I was busy with deadlines and felt really weird and weak? Might have caught a bug or something, I dunno. But I live yay!

ALSO THE BOLD TYPE HAS BEEN RENEWED FOR NOT ONLY SEASON 2, BUT SEASON 3 AS WELL

I’m DEFINITELY living

Right now I’m still working my way through Danger! Women Artists at Work (I love non-fiction yet it takes me forever to actually finish them whyyy) and I started Chasing Eveline which I can’t say antyhing about yet as I pretty much just started. Meanwhile I also finished Ewan Pendle, and I ended up loving it! Hopefully I’ll have a review up this week. But let’s skip the other books I read since my last wrap up and just talk about my September books because I’m lazy  and most of them will be discussed anyway in the list below¯\_(ツ)_/¯

💛 Marked by Kim Richardson ★ – Just realised I haven’t reviewed this one yet – woops. This one really disappointed me. I found it boring, flat, the characters annoying and the romance way too insta-y.

💛 America #6 and #7 – issue 6 was a bit of a let-down for me, as I felt like the arc was ended abruptly and solved too easily, but 7 was really interesting and fun to read as it dives into America’s past and shows us her moms’ past too

💛 Giant Days #30 and Holiday Special – Still a really fun read

💛 Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh ★★★ – Another one I just realised I still haven’t reviewed. Woops. I’ve talked about it before in a weekly wrap up, but this one was also a bit of a let-down. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t really enjoy it either. I’m still questioning my three stars actually. It had a lot of potential and I definitely love the concept, but I’m definitely not a fan of the romance and I also felt really detached from the story and its characters

💛 Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor ★★ – Such a disappointment. It started out SO GOOD. I could definitely see myself loving it. But then the romance completely took over and I wanted to rip my eyes out*

💛 The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl volumes 4, 5 and 6 ★★★★★ – Squirrel Girl just gets better and better with each volume. If you haven’t checked it out yet, YOU MUST

💛 The Backstagers all issues ★★★★★ – I LOVE THIS COMIC SO MUCH I NEED MORE. Queer theater boys?? Yes please. Backstage being an ACTUAL magic place that reminded me a bit of Wonderland? Yes please. Basically this entire comic is a YES PLEASE from me and I highly recommend it

💛 Ewan Pendle and the White Wraith by Shaun Hume ★★★★ – SUCH a fun read and I’m so disappointed that there might not be a sequel. Basically all of you must read it ASAP (and I shall try to convince you to read it sometime this week)

💛 Lumberjanes #42 – Have I already yelled my love for Lumberjanes into your face? No? Here ya go: I LOVE LUMBERJANES**

💛 Doctor Who Myths and Legends by Rirchard Dinnick ★ – Unfortunately not for me. I love Doctor Who but I couldn’t connect to the writing style which really got in the way of enjoying this

💛 Ms. Marvel #22 – uhhh last book of September and I don’t really remember it? I liked it, that I know for sure. It was a good ending to this arc

* Sorry for that image
** If you want more than just ‘I LOVE LUMBERJANES’ to convince you to read this amazing comic might I redirect you to my ‘why you should read lumberjanes’ post

What have I done with my life

That’s not a joke I don’t remember. I’ve been super busy with school and trying to meet every deadline. I’ve also worked here and there and just… Watched some tv shows? Read some books? OH HEY GUESS WHAT I FINALLY CAUGHT UP ON TEEN WOLF. Right in time for the finale (okay actually after the finale but that meant I could binge watch)

Is there a ‘I’m disappointed club’ because

It doesn’t surprise me at all because 6A had a great ending, but this one?

I barely enjoyed the season as well. Sure there were moments I liked and loved, but mostly? Nope 6B didn’t happen. JUST LIKE KIRA APPARENTLY DIDN’T HAPPEN

Thankfully Brooklyn Nine Nine is back so I’m all good

asbfhsdg I love Holt so much I’d die for him

Okay but seriously, I don’t think I really did anything?* I just focused on school and work, but this week I’m going to treat myself and go to two art exhibitions in Rotterdam.

* My memory is so bad I can’t think of anything lmao

This week I only posted my review for Doctor Who Myths and Legends. But at least I posted something yay!

Now for the entire month of September:

💛 Reviews: Snow White and the Seven AngelsDaughter of Smoke and Bone
💛 Writing: When You No Longer Like Your Plot, But Your Characters Own Your Heart
💛 The Artsy Hufflehoe: I talked about Jordan Wolfson’s Female Figure and the violence of objectification
💛 The Discussing Hufflepuff: Do You Need to Read All the Blogposts? | Why I Can’t Relate to Library-related Posts
💛 Tags: The Little Engine Tag | The Book Fangirling AwardThe Infinity Dreams Award
💛 Other: Why You Should Support The Bold TypeBooks Set in The Netherlands: So Many Opportunities!! | Things I Would Change in Books

I don’t remember if I mentioned this already*, but I decided to save all the blog posts I want to read from my WordPress reader to my favourites map (and pray that Bloglovin doesn’t delete any unread posts) so that I can read them whenever I have the time. Hopefully this will help me to keep up easier, but I’m still super behind. So sorry if I haven’t visited your blog in a while! 💛

💛 Annemieke wrote a letter to authors who request reviews
💛 Holly talks about her favourite libraries in Oxford
💛 Elm has 3000 followers!! I’m so proud (also go increase that number if you’re not following her yet)
💛 Savannah talks about what makes a book problematic

I actually wanted to share more posts, but I unfortunately don’t have any time to read more posts today 😪

* Did I already mention that I have a terrible memory

So on one hand I feel like I don’t have that much left to do when it comes to school and that I’ll have more free time now (mostly because I finished my articles) but on the other hand I feel like I have A LOT to do and I’m stressing*

Basically I don’t know how active I’ll be this month, BUT. I need to keep up with my reviews because obligations. So you’ll definitely see some reviews this month. I do hope that I won’t just post reviews, because I like variety but we’ll see. All I know is that this school year is FLYING BY and while that’s great it’s also not great because I still need to do so many things before going to Manchester (fun fact: I found out only recently that I’m going a bit earlier than I thought. Our school is so clear on everything :) Basically they never said that if you’re going to England you’ll start at the start of January, not at the end of the month. Also apparently I’m only going for three months instead of five)

SO YEAH I HAVE A LOT OF THINGS TO TAKE CARE OF

* Yay anxiety

Anyway, how was your week/past two weeks/month? Is there a ‘I’m disappointed with the Teen Wolf Finale’ club and are you a part of it? What have you been reading? Are you watching B99? Let me know in the comments!

It’s Not You, It’s Me // Doctor Who Myths and Legends Review

Author: Richard Dinnick
Genre: Sci-fi
Goodreads rating: 3.8
My rating: ⭐

For thousands of years, epic stories have been passed down from Time Lord to student, generation to generation. The truth of these tales was lost millennia ago, but the myths and legends themselves are timeless.

These are the most enduring of those tales. From the princess Manussa and her giant snake Mara, to the Vardon Horse of Xeriphin, these stories shed light on the universe around us and the beings from other worlds that we meet. Myths hold up a mirror to our past, present and future, explaining our culture, our history, our hopes and fears.

A collection of epic adventures from the Time Lords’ mist-covered past, Myths and Legends is an unforgettable gallery of heroes and villains, gods and monsters (Goodreads).

DISCLAIMER: I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

I was really excited to read Doctor Who Myths and Legends. The world of Doctor Who is very broad and there’s so much to explore. Myths and legends set in that world? Yes please. Unfortunately this book was a huge let down for me, mostly because of one reason: the writing style.

The writing style was very simple, flat and there’s a lot of telling instead of showing.

I spoke with Orfak and told him of my concerns. He was deeply shocked but admitted to having the same fugue state when it came to the events of last night following the use of the sarcophagus by the Vardon.

This led to me not feeling immersed in the stories at all, nor caring about what happened. There was a lot of they did this, they did that. There was no excitement

Persis peered through one of the tiny windows. She was staring into the throne room. She recognised it from the holovid. It was empty.

I also felt like the stories were too short and sometimes rushed. Some of them ended very abruptly and made me wonder what even the point of the story was. I would’ve preferred if the author had reduced the amount of stories and had developed the remaining ones better. Though I’d still have trouble with the writing style, I do think that that way I would’ve cared a little bit more about the characters and their stories. Maybe I would’ve given the book a higher rating if that were the case. But now? I didn’t care at all for these characters, even though they definitely had potential to be interesting.

I didn’t expect the Doctor to be in this much, but the introduction did hint at them appearing in the stories, at least now and then. They appeared in only a few stories though, and except for one they barely played a part. It was still fun to see the Doctor show up though! It’s just a shame that they only appeared in some of the stories at the beginning.

I also liked that the first story hinted at River (‘She was an archeologist – feisty and unconvential’) and there’s a story about Lucy, The Master’s Wife in season 3 of New Who which I really liked.

All the other stories unfortuntely felt really flat to me, though they did have potential to be really interesting. Since the writing style was the biggest reason for that, I think this might be a case of it’s not you (the book), it’s me.

A 1-star rating feels really harsh, but I sadly really didn’t enjoy this one, so giving it more than 1 star felt like I was lying (to both myself and others).

Have you read Doctor Who Myths and Legends? What did you think of it? Who are your favourite Doctor and Companion? Let me know in the comments!

All About My TV Shows Tag

I got tagged by the Queen of TV Shows Kat herself, so thank you Kat! If you’re not familiar with her blog, go check it out!

1. First TV show you ever watched

I definitely don’t know what the first one was, but one of the first was of course Pokémon haha. I know there were many other cartoons/anime I watched, but I don’t know which one was first? It might have been Pokémon, but there’s also a good chance it wasn’t. My first tv show might have been the Dutch Sesame Street as well haha. I really wish I remembered!

2. All-time favorite TV show

For a really, really long time this was definitely Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It is still one of my favourite shows, but it has been so long since I’ve seen it, I’m not sure if I’d still call it my number one? I definitely still love it a lot though. It shaped and inspired me in a lot of ways.

My all-time favourite tv show might actually be The Fosters though. I love it to pieces and it’s so so so important. I’ve talked about it before here and I’m considering writing a separate post on it because though it’s not completely unknown, it definitely deserves more love

3. Your character crush

Oh my gosh only one character? And are we talking current or past as well? Because I think as a kid I had a tiny crush on Ash Ketchum (I’m not sure if I approve of that hahaha).

Right now, it’s really hard to pick because I’m pretty much crushing on all the Shadowhunters characters (minus the obvious ones like Valentine and Sebastian – though Will Tudor is making it very, very hard – why is he so cute this is illegal)

4. Favorite OTP

I have so many OTPs that the ‘one’ part has kind of lost its meaning lmao. It’s really, really hard to choose though. It also depends on what I’m currently watching/reading. Like for a while Victuuri from Yuri on Ice were probably my favourite OTP, but since it stopped airing I lost my obsession (now it’s just a healthy love haha). Right now, I’d have to say Malec from Shadowhunters and Trimberly from Power Rangers (please don’t make me choose I already chose two out of the many, many ones I have)

5. Most disappointing ending or cancellation

Most disappointing cancellation is probably (I say probably since it’s not official yet) is BBC Class. It hasn’t been announced yet, but the ratings weren’t great since BBC barely marketed it and there has been no news regarding a second season yet. Even if it does get renewed though, I’ll have mixed feelings about it since it will be without Patrick Ness, the showrunner and writer of all the episodes. Another disappoiting cancellation was Powerless. I saw it coming, but I didn’t think they were just going to quit airing the remaining episodes. Rude. It was such a cute show, with fun references, a fun (and diverse!) cast, and it covered some important issues while still remaining a light show.

Most disappointing ending is definitely How I Met Your Mother and I will leave it at that or I will go into a rant and believe me no one wants that 🙈

6. A show you would like to be on

As in a cast member? Or a crew member? I’m way too shy to actually star on anything haha (also my anxiety is telling me nope no way start running now), but the Shadowhunters cast seems so lovely and fun that I’d love to work with them. Behind the scenes that is

7. A character you would love to take out on a date

Let me take out all my babies, buy them some ice cream and protect them from the scary thing that is the television industry (stop hurting them you monsters)

8. A popular TV show you can’t stand

Hahaha so many? Woops. Though I really, really can’t stand The Big Bang Theory #sorrynotsorry

9. A scene that made you cry like a baby

So many?? I’m super emotional so there are many scenes that made me cry. It’s also hard to choose one without spoiling anyone. Small spoiler for The Fosters (but a good one? And it’s not like you won’t see it coming?) but Stef and Lena’s wedding(s) made me cry like a baby.
There’s also a scene in the Andi Mack finale that I really, really don’t want to spoil. It’s a happy moment as well though, but oh my god I can still cry just thinking about it.

10. A character with a killer wardrobe

I love Petra Solano’s (Jane the Virgin) wardrobe. Not for me though, but still. Jane herself also has a great wardrobe. Bill Potts’ (Doctor Who) wardrobe was on point. Andi Mack (from Andi Mack) has a great wardrobe that I would’ve appreciated greatly at her age (I do on my age as well haha). Callie from The Fosters usually has great outfits too. Oh and how can I forget Queen Lydia Martin!! I also adored Kira’s wardrobe. Wait I was supposed to pick one?

I TAG

Ash | Smiling Dreamer | Nisha

What’s a popular tv show you can’t stand? Is there a tv character you’d eat some ice cream with? Let me know in the comments!

The Weekly Hufflepuff #50

I usually try to avoid posting multiple times a day, but I couldn’t post my wrap up yesterday and I had already scheduled today’s post so *shrug*

I finished The Upside of Unrequited (which was ADORABLE and SO MUCH FUN) and also finally, after years of being on my tbr, I got a copy of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and finished it. And now I’m regretting not getting the sequels

I’m really behind on reviews, but hopefully I’ll get to them this week

Last week was so busy – I barely had any time for myself and I’m quite amazed that I managed to post on here three times? I didn’t write at all though rip.

On Monday I met up with my friend from uni who I’ve mentioned before by calling her Batman (that’s what she’s called in my phone – I’m Robin in hers). We went to a few different places in the city where we took lots of photos and just had fun.

When an old lady offers to take a picture of the both of you and this happens

After that I had to go to work and the next day I met up with another friend and ate Italian (and she recruited me as her personal photographer as well haha).

On Wednesday I FINALLY got to see the two giant pandas at Ouwehands Dierenpark (a Dutch zoo). The giant panda has been my favourite animal ever since I was small (which may come as a surprise to some of you who know about my pug obsession haha) so you can imagine my excitement when I learned two of them would be coming and staying here for the next ten years.

On Thursday I managed to write quite a few blogposts before I was off for work – it was our last Thursday together which we only found out that day. I’ve mentioned before that I’m a Blikopener at the Stedelijk Museum: Blikopeners is a group of teenagers (unless the 19 year olds like me turn 20 during the year haha) who help make the museum more accessible for youth by giving feedback, tours, help organise workshops and events etc. Every year they pick a new group though and the old groups become alumni. Meaning you can still give tours, help/organise workshops and events and such, but you’re not at the museum every week anymore and it’s not the entire group together anymore. We were supposed to have one Thursday left, but since our boss is sick and no one can fill in for her it was cancelled.

Which brings me to Friday, which was the selection day for the new group. Pretty much everyone who had filled in the form, didn’t live too far away from Amsterdam and wasn’t too old got invited and were divided into groups and us Blikopeners observed them, asked and answered questions and set them to work so they could show what they’re capable of. By the end of the night we all picked our favourites from our group (which was so difficult!! I got attached to all of them and since I’m 20 and thus older than all of them I kind of saw them as my younger siblings or something haha) and then… It was kind of over? We still had our group outing on Sunday, but it still felt so weird to basically pick our own replacement even though most of us will continue to work there.

So on Sunday we had what was probably our last outing with the entire group (I’m skipping Saturday because I was exhausted from the previous day which had been so busy and hectic so I just watched Disney’s The Lodge all day haha) and oh my gosh I could cry once we all said our goodbyes (most of them at trainstations which is so cliché but also I lowkey loved it haha). It felt SO weird. We had all grown so close over the year and I know I’ll definitely see some of them soon since we’re in the same workgroups, but we’ll most likely never be complete again and it definitely felt like an ending. It was a really fun outing though. First we had a picknick and caught up with our old boss who was also able to come (sadly our new boss couldn’t join us) and then we took the train to The Hague were we went to The Parade which is cultural festival full with performances were our ex-intern (meaning she assisted our old boss) who even after she left was still really involved (so it felt like she never really left haha) works so she took care of everything – tickets for performances, the carousel, food… It was so sweet of her. While the performances weren’t really my thing, I still had a lot of fun just being there with everyone (that sounded so cheesy omg)

That might have been the longest personal section I’ve ever done haha, but I really wanted to talk about it because being a Blikopener meant a lot to me – I’m thinking of writing a separate post about the past year as well, but we’ll see. I’ve thought of writing lots of posts that I still haven’t written yet rip

OH AND IN MY PERSONAL SECTION I USUALLY FREAK OUT ABOUT MY TV SHOWS SOOOO…. FEMALE DOCTOR ANYONE?!

Let’s skip the writing section shall we hahaha

Aaaand that’s a wrap! I feel like I’m really getting into the whole blogging thing again (though I should be careful with that because I feel like every time I said that this past year I disappeared again lmao) Anyway, how was your week? ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT OUR FIRST FEMALE DOCTOR? Also does anyone have a petition to get Pearl to stay cause as excited I am about 13 I’m so not ready to say goodbye to Bill yet

The Stone House

There’s an old stone house near Coal Hill School. Most people hurry past it. They’ve heard the stories. But, if you stop, and look up, you’ll see the face of a girl, pressed up against a window. Screaming.

Tanya finds herself drawn to the stone house. There’s a mystery there, and she’s going to solve it. But the more she investigates, the more she realises that there’s a presence in the house. One that wants her.

Something is waiting for Tanya in the stone house. Something that has been trapping others in its web over the years. Something that is far worse than any ghost.

What She Does Next Will Astound You

At Coal Hill School, things have started to get public. Kids have become obsessed with a website that demands you perform risky stunts, or tell it your most painful secrets. And Seraphin, everyone’s favourite vlogger, wants you to get involved. All in the name of charity.

At first people just get hurt. Then their lives are ruined. Finally, they disappear.

As April’s fragile group of friends starts to fracture, she decides she’s going to uncover the truth behind this site herself. Whatever it takes, whoever she hurts, April’s going to win. But then, to her horror, she wakes up and finds her whole world’s changed.

What she does next will astound you.

Joyride

Poppy is a quiet girl, right up until she steals a car and drives it through a shop window.

Max is a nice guy, but then he kills his whole family. Just for fun.

Amar always seems so happy, so why is he trying to jump to his death from the school roof?

Some of the students of Coal Hill School are not themselves. Some of them are dying. Ram has just woken up in a body he doesn’t recognise, and if he doesn’t figure out why he may well be next.

I’ve talked about my love for BBC Class before, and since I loved the show so much of course I needed to read the companion books. It’s been a while since I read them, so my memory is a bit foggy, but I’m still going to try haha.

Did these books fill up the hole the show left in my heart after it ended? (there’s still no news about a second season rip) Yes and no. On one hand I really missed the characters so I was thrilled to have them back in my life, even if it was only for a little bit. On the other hand the characters didn’t feel as fleshed out as they were in the show (which is one of the big reasons why I love it so mch) and there were times they acted out of character. Like in What She Does Next Will Astound You, April and Tanya’s personalities were kind of switched. While on the show April has no problem fighting and killing aliens, suddenly she does in this book and is more of the rational/logical one, which was Tanya’s role on the show. Meanwhile Tanya enjoyed the fighting and killing. Especially April suddenly having problems with fighting alien felt really weird, which I’m sure everyone who has seen the show would agree on. I mean, April is a warrior queen?

Does this look like someone who has trouble killing aliens

April (and by extension Tanya) isn’t the only one who acts out of character though. Charlie does something in the same book that I could never imagine him doing. The books are all written by different authors, so I guess the one who wrote What She Does Next just didn’t have a good enough understanding of the characters, which is really a shame. I also felt like this one dragged on a lot, even though the concept was pretty interesting.

Joyride on the other hand felt too fast-paced and it really annoyed me that we got to read from the antagonist’s POV several times, which gave too much away. I would’ve preferred if things had remained a mystery a bit longer for me as a reader and to have figured things out along with the main characters.

What I really liked about The Stone House was the relationship between Tanya and Miss Quill, something that I love about the show as well. I love that Miss Quill looks after Tanya and clearly cares for her, even though she tries to hide it.

The writing of these books was okay. I would’ve preferred if Patrick Ness himself had written them, not just because he’s an amazing writer but he knows the characters he created, unlike these writers.

I did love the cute Marlie scenes in all the books (with the exception of one but as Charlie acted completely out of character I’m just pretending that it didn’t happen *shrugs*), Miss Quill had some iconic lines like always, there are some funny moments and the books were fun to read. So all in all I did like them and if you really love Class and want more of it, I would recommend them. Just don’t have high expectations.

How do you feel about companion books? I’ve yet to find some that are really, really good. Usually they’re not on the same level as the original show, so I’m always a bit wary of them. My obsession with Class got me to buy them though haha. Anyway let me know how you feel about them in the comments!

The Weekly Hufflepuff #48

*really losing inspiration for intro’s for these posts send help* OH I CHANGED MY LAYOUT A BIT I CAN TALK ABOUT THAT. So yeah I created a new header as I was getting a bit tired of the old one and wanted more colour. I also created my own social media icons which was a pain but I like the result so it’s worth it. I also changed my ‘meet the blogger’ thingie as I was getting tired of my old picture. Also this one fits the blog’s name better haha

I finished The Dark Prophecy by Rick Riordan and well… I’m a bit disappointed? I absolutely loved the first one, but this one? I dunno I nee dto gather my thoughts so I can write a review, right now I’m not sure yet how I feel.

I finished my second year this Tuesday which is crazy. I’ll be a thirdyear already this September?? What?? BUT ALSO SUMMER VACATION. Boy do I need it. Looking back this term was pretty fun, it just wasn’t fun that my friend and I had to redo an assignment from last term. BUT WE PASSED THIS TIME. I passed all my classes from this year so naturally I’m happy.

To celebrate the end of the year my friend and I went to cat cafe Kopjes, which was fun though the cats weren’t really in the mood to be petted or play. I think it was a bit too hot for them haha. Most of them were up high sleeping. We only got to pet two cats which made us really sad haha.

This cutie was sleeping until I decided that I needed to pet it. I still feel super guilty for waking it (that second picture is how it looked at me when I softly touched it). My heart guys, I feel so bad (it let us pet it though it was sooo soft

I’m gonna move there and live among the kitties btw

ALSO WHO ELSE WATCHED DOCTOR WHO LAST NIGHT AND IS BITTER I SWEAR THEY BETTER FIX THIS NEXT WEEK

Since my last wrap up I posted:

I haven’t read any blogposts this week (or the previous weeks) so I have nothing to share for the ‘elsewhere on the internet’ part. Hopefully next week!

And that’s a wrap! What have you guys been up to? Any posts (written by you or others) you think I HAVE to read? What have you been reading? Let me know in the comments!

The Weekly (#47) and Monthly Hufflepuff: April

And ANOTHER weekly wrap up! And a monthly wrap up! Is my blogging slump over? Am I going to rock combining blogging and school this term? WHO KNOWS BUT I’M EXCITED ANYWAY

Also I’m sorry that I once again have to freak out but… IT’S MAY ALREADY? Okay technically it’s still April but it feels like May since I’m wrapping April up. I’m kind of not ready for it to May already, because then soon it will be June and before you know it it’s June 6th and I’m turning 20

Peter Pan where you at mate

This month wasn’t very exciting when it came to books, though some good comic issues came out (I still need to catch up on some!). It wasn’t a bad month either though!

Zodiac Starforce was SUCH a fun comic I need more. I think there’s going to be a second series this year? Fingers crossed! Hopefully I’ll review it soon.

I read the 2015 Archie comics last month, so I started Jughead as well. While I do really love his character, I found it hard to get through. Also it made me really, really despise Riverdale’s Jughead even more. Not only did they erase his asexuality (and it seems like he’s aromantic as well, nor does he like to be touched) they completely erased his fun personality?? I will eventually pick up volume 2 though, because as I said I really love Jughead (also was anyone else really disgusted when in this week’s episode he said that Archie’s songs made you want to slit your wrists like that’s not okay??? Don’t joke about that??)

I really liked the first issue of America, but the second one? Wow. It was a bit of a mess story wise. There was so much going on that I got really confused. Still love the character though, so I’m not giving up (besides it’s only the second issue)

And I really, really need to get to reviewing Brave Chef Brianna and Goldie Vance as these comics are AMAZING. I’ll get to reviewing the BBC Class books as soon as I’ve finished Joy Ride. My review for The Wonderful Wizard of Oz will be up this week! I think I scheduled it for tomorrow?

This school week was so much better than the last! I’m really looking forward to this term now. It also helped that I only had three days of school (though I didn’t go to one of them because I was exhausted and needed to sleep) since Thursday was Kingsday and we had Friday of as well. This gave me plenty of time to do school work and blog – I scheduled three posts for this week again!

I missed Doctor Who yesterday (I’m already caught up though so here’s my weekly reminder that I love Bill Potts. Also the Doctor punched a racist bigot – iconic) because I finally went to see Hidden Figures! It was my most anticipated movie of the year, so I’m not sure why it took me this long. It was INCREDIBLE though. It exceeded my expectations, and my expectations were really high already. I need to see it again. It’s so powerful and just

I had no idea I posted this much this month?! I really hope I’ll be able to keep this up, because boy did I miss this.

And once again that’s a wrap! How has your week been? Have you seen Hidden Figures? What did you think of it? Are you enjoying Doctor Who season 10 so far? What have you been reading? Tell me all about it in the comments!

The Weekly Hufflepuff #46

A second Weekly Hufflepuff in a row?? I’m on FIRE

I finished The Stone House and started What She Does Next Will Astound You, another BBC Class book. I really like the formatting of this one. I also started The Wonderful Wizard of Oz which has been fun so far (I’m pretty sure I’ve only seen The Muppet version of this? So that makes it extra fun since I’m not that familiar with the story)

My final term of my second year has started this week (WHAT)  and um… It was a pretty stressful week full with panic attacks, but I’m okay now. I’m not saying that I won’t be stressed anymore and that I won’t get anymore panic attacks, because I know that isn’t true, but I do feel better than earlier this week. This term does look fun and I’m looking forward to it (mostly I’m looking forward to finishing it though woops – I’m just really really ready for summer vacation, I really feel like I’m at the edge of a burn out)

Last week I completely forgot to mention that I went out with a friend that week (because I’m a horrible friend) to get Dunkin’ Donuts because two stores finally opened in Amsterdam.

Not only does it look really cute, it tasted amazing. Like strawberries and with custard inside

And time to freak out over Doctor Who again! Another amazing episode. Lately I hadn’t been that excited about Doctor Who, but this season really feels like my favourite show again. Also did I mention I love Bill??

Other than that I haven’t been up to much. I’ve been trying to get back into blogging and the blogging community and so far I’ve been quite succesful? I’ve got 3 posts scheduled for next week and read quite a few posts!

I came up with a new feature! As you may know I work at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and I love art, so for a long time now I really wanted to talk more about art on here but I never got to it and didn’t really know how to do that. Then I came with the very simple solution: a new feature! I really wanted the name to have ‘art hoe’ in it somehow, as I love that term. And so, with feedback from some friends, I came up with ‘The Artsy Hufflehoe’! I don’t know yet when I’ll start this feature. Hopefully in two weeks!

And that’s a wrap! Hopefully I’ll be able to keep this up and I’ll see you with another wrap up next week. How has your week been? Are you also in the last term of school? Any exciting summer plans? What have you been reading? Let me know in the comments!

The Weekly Hufflepuff #45

When you haven’t written a weekly wrap up since November (!!) and you have to look at old posts because you can’t remember the format you know you haven’t been blogging since forever

I finally picked up one of the BBC Class books that have been on my shelf for months now. I really enjoyed The Stone House, so I’m excited to read the other two. Speaking of BBC Class, it started airing in America yesterday on BBC America, so please support it!! It’s an amazing show that needs a second season (and so do I). If you need some convincing, read this post.

This week I officially finished my third term and had some days off, meaning I could relax a bit. I did have to work, but it was fun! Especially when there isn’t a voice screaming in your head ‘YOU STILL NEED TO DO THIS! AND THAT! BEFORE TOMORROW!’

Oh and a new exhibition opened at the Stedelijk Museum this week, so my mom and I went to the opening. Openings are always fun, and I definitely like Seth Price’s work.

OH HAPPY EASTER. I completely forgot. I hope you all enjoy your chocolate eggs. Or whatever you’re eating today. Just enjoy your food.

GUYS DID YOU WATCH DOCTOR WHO LAST NIGHT?! IT WAS AMAZING OH MY GOD. IT WAS SO GOOD. AND BILL. I LOVE BILL. CAN BILL STAY FOR A BILLION SEASONS (HA SEE WHAT I DID THERE). JUST FANGIRL WITH ME OVER DOCTOR WHO (AND ESPECIALLY BILL!!) IN THE COMMENTS PLEASE IF YOU WATCHED IT

I POSTED THINGS!! YES!! I really hope I’ll be able to keep it up this time since I really enjoyed getting back into the blogosphere this week and it made me realise how much I missed this.

I’m very behind, but I read some posts!! So let me share some

And that’s a wrap! Boy did I miss saying that. I dunno, while I did blog here and there, I just… Kind of forgot about my weekly wrap ups? Maybe it was intentional at first, as I barely read, blogged and read other people’s blogposts, so I felt like I didn’t have anything to write about anyway, and of course at some point I didn’t have the time and energy to write them anyway, but at some point I definitely forgot about these. ANYWAY. What have you guys been up to this week? What are you reading? Or watching? Let me know in the comments!

TV Shows I’m Currently Watching | Part II

Last August I talked about tv shows I was watching and I thought I’d do a new post, because in the meantime I started some new shows (some of which are on hiatus right now sadly) that I want to share with you all and hopefully get you to watch them as well (well with an exception). Of course there are some shows from last post that I’m still watching (like Jane the Virgin and The Fosters, though the latter has just gone on hiatus and oh my god does anyone watch it because that finale??? ARE MY BABIES GOING TO BE OKAY. Okay I know they will because they always end up okay, but what if this time they don’t??) So here are some of the shows I’m currently watching!

BROOKLYN NINE NINE

On one hand I regret not watching this sooner, but on the other than I would have had less episodes to bingewatch. I don’t even know where to begin with this show. It’s just amazing? The cast is incredibly diverse and talented, it’s genuinely funny and never offensive (this statement better not come back to bite me in the ass but I highly doubt it because this show is just so pure??)   It’s pure, hilarious, lighthearted (though also tense at some points), iconic, important – just do yourself a favour and watch it

Hint: it’s Brooklyn Nine Nine. The people want Brooklyn Nine Nine

ANDI MACK

GUYS. GUYS THIS SHOW. I LOVE IT SO MUCH (I mean I love all of the shows on this list but I’m so shook). It’s a Disney Channel show and it’s?? So good?? It features an Asian-American family (including a biracial relationship), a black girl and a Jewish (rumoured to be gay???!!) boy. It’s really mature and genuinely funny. There have been two episodes out so far but it really looks like it’s going to be an important show. It already touched important topics in two episodes and look at that cast!!

THE FLASH

In August I mentioned how I had watched three episodes of Supergirl which I liked, but also bored me a bit. Soon after I finished season 1 and loved it though. The crossover with The Flash really made me want to watch that show, so I did! Ironically I kind of dropped Supergirl, but I am still watching The Flash (I really, really don’t like the turn Supergirl took. It’s nothing like the first season and I hate Mon-el). The Flash isn’t perfect either, but I still enjoy it a lot and I love the characters. I do wish we could get more female characters though. I was thrilled when Jesse Quick joined the show, but it doesn’t look like she’s going to be around much. Oh and I love that Tom Felton is now on the show because! Draco Malfoy paralells and jokes! Also I’m still dead because of that proposal

POWERLESS

MORE PEOPLE NEED TO WATCH AND SUPPORT THIS SHOW IT’S SO CUTE AND FUN AND LIGHT. If you don’t know what Powerless it’s about, it takes place at Wayne Security and is about this group of coworkers who live in the DC universe and have to deal with the consequences of living with superheroes and villains. It’s really fun and unique and I love all the references. Also it has a great, diverse cast and talks about some important messages. Basically please watch it so it gets renewed okay?

DOCTOR WHO

Okay so technically I’m not currently watching this as the new season hasn’t come out yet, but I don’t care I’m going to include it anyway, because I’ll be currently watching it soon. I’m so pumped for this season, which I haven’t been in a while. BILL POTTS EVERYONE. BILL. POTTS. LOOKS AMAZING AND FUN AND SHE IS THE FIRST GAY COMPANION AND SHE’S ALSO BLACK AND JUST??? FINALLY.

SHOWS THAT ARE ON HIATUS

  • TEEN WOLF: Again. Last time Teen Wolf was also on hiatus, but now I’m waiting for 6B instead of 6A. While I’m still really upset about the way they treated Arden Cho and I really missed Kira (plus there were so many times that Kira could’ve been necessary for the plot but?? ‘her story is over’??) , it was actually a really good season. AND MY OTP IS CANON FINALLY
  • ONE DAY AT A TIME: I won’t say too much about this show, as I’m planning on writing a separate post on it as it deserves that but please do yourself a favour and watch One Day At A Time it’s brilliant
  • VOLTRON LEGENDARY DEFENDER: This is such a fun show – it really reminds me of ATLA, which makes sense because I think I read that a lot of the ATLA writers are working on Voltron? I’d say bingewatch the entire two seasons but that cliffhanger… Wait until season 3 y’all (though that one will probably end with a horrible cliff as well lmao)
  • MIRACULOUS LADYBUG: Okay so… I started watching this and thought it was fun and cute and now I’m kind of obsessed?? I really need season 2 please thank you
  • YOUNG JUSTICE: Last time I couldn’t get through to season 2, I’m not sure why because I bingewatched it and I loved it?? I didn’t have any of the problems that I had last time, so maybe I was just not in the mood for it (or maybe it’s because I had some months to accept that some of my favourites were no longer mains). ANYWAY SEASON 3 GUYS AAAAH
  • THE REAL O’NEALS: I guess? I don’t know if it will be renewed and I’m not sure if I want it to be. While I recognised its flaws during season 1, the protagonist did blackface in season 2 and there was a horrible biphobic joke – and in both situations the show didn’t apologise for it. It’s such a shame because the show had so much potential but these two incidents really left a bad taste in my mouth

Are you watching any of these shows? What is your favourite show that you’re watching right now? Anything you’d recommend to me? Let me know in the comments!
