TV Shows I’m Currently Watching

Hey guys so I thought I should talk to you about the tv shows I’m currently watching (and convince you to watch them as well, well except for one). I mostly talk about books on here of course, but I love these shows so much that I decided to dedicate a post to them. So in no particular order, let’s go!

THE FOSTERS

I’m not sure when I started to watch The Fosters, either after season 1 had aired or in between 2a and 2b, but I’ve been watching it loyally for a long time now and though there were ups and downs (downs being 3B) I’m still in love with this show. I love how diverse it is and how it tackles important issues. They regularly deal with topics like homophobia, sexism, racism, transphobia and rape. And they do it so well. On top of that (most) of the characters are amazing and loving. The family dynamic is so much fun to watch and even though it deals with dark topics there are also lots of light and funny moments to make up for it. Is it perfect? No. Believe me they have made mistakes (sadly), but that doesn’t change the fact that I think it’s a really important show to watch. Also warning: keep tissues at hand. I know I’m super emotional, but still, I shed a few tears during almost every episodes (not always because it’s sad! A lot of times because it’s beautiful and I’m so attached to these characters – well again most of them)

ACE ATTORNEY

Oh boy where do I start. Okay so I’ve done a post about the games in which I basically tried to convince you guys to play them, because besides Pokemon this is my favourite gaming franchise. I love it SO much. Naturally I was beyond excited when the anime was announced, because I’ve been waiting for YEARS. Sadly while there have been good moments, it’s not the adaptation I wanted. They’re rushing through the storylines and honestly I really wonder how anyone who hasn’t played the games can keep up. I was excited after the first episode, and it kind of went downhill from there (except for episode 13, if you’re a fan of the games but gave up on the anime – can’t blame you – watch it. It’s adorable). Also they make really unnecessary changes, they left out such important plot points AND character background stories/arcs and honestly, I’ve been bored lately. Also really frustrated because they’re really digging their own grave with what they’ve been leaving out. Ace Attorney is SUCH great source material and would’ve made such a terrific anime, if they hadn’t screwed up. Oh well, I’ll continue to watch while waiting for Spiritual Justice to come out.

BINAN KOUKOU CHIKYUU BOUEI-BU LOVE! LOVE!

Speaking of anime, I’m absolutely loving the second season of Binan. I’ve wanted to do a post on the first season for forever now, but I still haven’t gotten around to it. I still will though! While I’m one episode behind, it’s as hilarious as always. If you haven’t heard of Binan, it’s a magical girl anime, except with boys and that it’s a parody. It’s super silly and just such a fun watch. I love it (more on it in my hopefully soon to be posted separate post on it)

JANE THE VIRGIN

I’ve talked a bit about Jane in my previous wrap up, because I’ve been obsessed with it. I just finished season 1 as I’m writing this and oh my God. It’s so good guys. Jane is my new favourite character and Gina Rodriguez is my new favourite actress. Jane is so relatable (at least to me) and all of the characters are so unique and complex. The writing is hilarious and clever. I love the family dynamic. Oh and there are several murders here and there. BUT! Nothing too gruesome. It keeps you at the edge of your seat at all times and just begs you to watch another one. THE ENDING OF SEASON 1 GUYS. I NEED TO CONTINUE WATCHING RIGHT NOW (except I also really needed to blog so here I am). Anyway, just watch it. I’m obsessed so expect me to try and convince you multiple times in the future as well.

UNCONTROLLABLY FOND

Okay so I’m SUPER behind on this one, mainly because of Jane the Virgin. But it’s really good and enjoyable so far. I’ve been waiting so long for this one (Bae Suzy and Kim Woo Bin are among my favourite Kdrama actors. So them being the leads in the same drama? GIMME) so I’m kind of disappointed in myself that I’m behind, but in my defence: Jane was calling my name. Also while it’s beautiful and there are definitely light moments, I have the feeling that it’s going to be sad and I didn’t want that right now. ALSO! The longer I wait the more I can binge watch. But seriously, if you’re looking for a new Kdrama look no further.

SHOWS I’M TECHNICALLY STILL WATCHING BUT HAVEN’T WATCHED IN A WHILE

  • YOUNG JUSTICE: I LOVED season 1 and would recommend it in a heartbeat. I thought it would be one of my favourite shows, but I’m really disappointed with season 2 and am having trouble getting into it. I just loved the original team and they just introduced way too many new characters at once (with half of the original main characters no longer being main characters??). Anyway, I’m still planning on eventually at least trying to watch season 2
  • GILMORE GIRLS: It’s not funny how long it’s taking me to finish season 7. I’m just not enjoying it like previous seasons. I’ve got five episodes left. But I can’t bring myself to watch it. I will watch it before the new show comes out though
  • SUPERGIRL: I’ve watched the first three episodes, and while I liked it, I was also bored? I’m determined to keep watching though. Hopefully it will get better
  • HIGH KICK! THE REVENGE OF THE SHORT LEGGED: A sitcom rather than a Kdrama, I mostly started watching this because I love Krystal and then when I started it I noticed that Lee Jong Suk (who played the lead in Pinocchio, read my review here) is in it as well, who I absolutely loved in Pinocchio, which happens to be my favourite Kdrama alongside Dream High. So far I don’t find it that funny yet and the fact that there are 123 episodes or something really puts me off
  • YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL: I watched the Japanese remake years ago so decided to give the original Kdrama a try. I love Park Shin Hye, but at some point she tried to spit out a fire and that made me kind of nauseous so ever since I’ve been putting it off haha. I will try and watch episode 2 again (hopefully without getting nauseous) soon though, because what I had watched so far was enjoyable

SHOWS THAT ARE ON HIATUS RIGHT NOW:

  • TEEN WOLF: Waiting for the last season! Honestly I’m glad it’s ending. I’m still furious about what happened to Arden (read my post about it on The Feministas here) and shows should end before they go downhill (and honestly it has been going downhill already). I’m not looking forward to not seeing Kira, but it looks intense and you know. STYDIA
  • LIV AND MADDIE: I love this show so much. I am upset about what happened to my ships last season, but it’s still enjoyable. I love the characters and the focus on family and friends. It’s just such a breeze to watch, so I can’t wait to have it back in my life
  • THE REAL O’NEALS: I recently binge watched this and I loved it. Sure it has it’s flaws, but it’s hilarious and mostly positive. I fell in love with the characters so quickly and I laughed out loud so many times.

And that’s my list! Are you watching any of these? Any shows you’d recommend based on these? Just what are you watching in general? Let me know in the comments!

Review: Pinocchio

Ever since I finished Pinocchio I haven’t been able to start a new drama (whether it’s Japanese or Korean – it’s really been a while since I watched a Japanese drama..). I don’t even want to watch a new drama. It’s put me in a big slump and I hope it won’t last as long as the slump I got after finishing Dream High.

So what is Pinocchio about? This is the summary from My Drama List, which is pretty spoiler free:

The idealistic Choi In Ha has her work cut out for her when she becomes a broadcast journalist, especially when she suffers from a condition known as “Pinocchio syndrome,” which makes her break out into hiccups whenever she tells a lie. Her rookie colleagues include Choi Dal Po, whose shabby appearance masks his true eloquence and sharp memory; Seo Bum Jo, a wealthy heir who has had everything handed to him in life; and Cha Hye Seung, whose fangirl knowledge comes in handy in covering the news. The 20-something newbie reporters pursue justice as they try to discover themselves in the process.

While it’s spoiler free, it doesn’t even begin to cover this amazing drama. I thought it would be cute, romantic and funny, which it was, it just was a lot darker than I expected which made it even better. See there’s a big mystery plot as well, and even when you think everything is resolved, it’s not. I just couldn’t stop watching as I had to find the answers to all my questions. Every episode ends with a cliffhanger, which really didn’t help my productivity (or sleep).

But besides the awesome mystery, the darkness and angst, it it also heartwarming. The main characters were funny and adorable, yet they clearly had their flaws and damn was their acting incredible, especially in certain scenes. Out of the other two main characters, I immediately loved Cha Hye Seung, who is just adorable and hilarious, but Seo Bum Jo not so much. Thankfully he went through great character development that made me fall in love with him.

And oh my gosh don’t get me started on all the supporting characters. They made the show even better.  First there’s Choi In Ha’s dad and grandfather, and along with Choi Dal Po they’re a realistic, heartwarming family. I always looked forward to their scenes. Then the reporters that the four main worked with; their antics were hilarious, yet they were great mentors for the newbie reporters (at least most of them). There are some supporting characters that I can’t talk about, because of spoilers, but they were all interesting to watch, whether I liked them or not. Ah just all the family, friendship and mentor relationships made my heart melt. Except that at the same time this drama also ripped my heart out.

Then there’s the romance. I won’t talk about it too much (because spoilers!), but it’s adorable and probably my favourite couple in any drama (Japanese or Korean) that I have seen. It’s just such a healthy relationship; they treat each other right, look out for each other, protect each other…

I also really liked how they focused on the power of the media. The drama makes really important points about how a majority of the people blindly believes anything that the media tells them, especially journalists, since they assume that journalists did their work right and are telling the truth.

All in all: a powerful, yet light drama, with quite some dark and angsty moments, that will make you laugh and cry (possibly at the same time) and there’s a possibility you won’t have a heart left once you’re finished. Just trust me and watch it so you can join me in this slump.

I felt so cryptic writing this, but it’s best going into this not knowing too much.

Have you seen Pinocchio? What did you think of it? I’ve asked this before, but if you’re new here: what is your favourite K-drama? Pinocchio has definitely made my list of all time favourite!

Why you should watch The Heirs

Last month I finished The Heirs, so now obviously I need to shower you all in lots of gifs hoping you’ll decide to watch it. I’d like to thank (it sounds like I’m accepting an award. THANK YOU FOR THE OSCAR) Raisa for recommending The Heirs to me, or I might have never watched it!

So what’s The Heirs about?

Kim Tan is heir to the Empire Group sent to study abroad in the U.S. In reality it’s a form of exile, as his elder half-brother back home schemes to take over the family business. While in the States, Kim Tan bumps into Cha Eun Sang, who arrived from Korea in search of her older sister. He feels himself falling for her, never realizing that she’s the daughter of his family’s housekeeper. When his fiancée Rachel Yoo arrives to bring him back to Korea, his heart is torn between love and duty.

Credits to mydramalist.com because I was too lazy to try and summarise it, also this is isn’t even half what it’s about. I mean, they don’t even mention my babies Choi Young Do and Lee Bo Na. There are so many characters and so many other storylines besides Kim Tan and Cha Eun Sang’s, it will be a bit confusing at first, but get through that confusion and keep watching, because it is definitely worth it!

So here are some reasons as to why you should watch it.

It has plenty of hilarious moments

Yet it will also break your heart

*no gifs because SPOILERS but have the tissues ready if you’re an emotional puddle of feels like me (what kind of description is that omg)*

The characters are amazing and distinctive. I swear you’ll fall in love with most of them

Like I said, there is so much more going on than just Cha Eun Sang and Kim Tan’s story. All the other characters have their own interesting storylines and relationships with each other that make the drama so much better.

AMAZING relationships, from family to friendship to romantic

Because Kim Tan and Choi Young Do (especially Young Do. You can hand him over to me Cha Eun Sang)

THEIR BROMANCE. THEIR BROMANCE GUYS. I know it doesn’t really look like much of a bromance in these gifs, but trust me haha. IT MADE ME CRY (okay so I cry pretty quickly but ssh). Now time for some Young Do appreciation.

Young Do came out to have a good time and honestly feels so attacked right now sorrynotsorry

Basically

No but seriously, he has such amazing character development

Lee Bo Na is an amazing character. She’s so adorable I love her

Lee Bo Na and Yoon Chan Young are adorable. Like seriously relationship goals

Kim Tan and Cha Eun Sang’S MOMS have the best relationship though

It’s incredibly addictive and will take up your personal life (maybe that’s a reason NOT to watch it)

I love the music, especially when I got to sing along with LOVE IS THE MOMEEEEENT

It’s just beautiful okay?

There’s so much more that I would love to discuss, but I can’t without spoiling everything!

Just trust me on this and watch it okay?

Have you seen The Heirs? Or maybe I’ve convinced you to watch it? *puppy eyes* What’s your favourite Korean drama? Mine still is Dream High

Nine Reasons Why You Should Watch Dream High

While I should have been studying for my exams, I got addicted to the Korean drama Dream High. It was the perfect way to relax after a long day of studying, though I wish I had started it a different day, as it was really hard to resist watching another episode instead of picking up a textbook. I managed though, barely.

Dream High is about six teenagers who attend Kirin Art School where they work hard to become idols. In one sentence. Dream High deals with a lot more than just singing and dancing, some of which quite serious. Do not, I repeat DO NOT read the blurb on DramaFever. There’s a huge spoiler for something that happens in a much later episode. Thankfully I read it after I saw that episode, so it wasn’t a spoiler for me.

Here are nine reasons why YOU should watch Dream High.

Dream-High-Cast-dream-high-22299006-1280-890_副本

  • Fun, yet tense and dramatic storyline
  • Amazing, realistic, well-developed characters that go through great character development
  • Perfect and adorable cast
  • Catchy songs (plus inspiring)
  • HI-FREAKING-LARIOUS
  • Though at times also heartbreaking
  • ALL THE FEELS YOU GUYS
  • Cute ships, both romantic and platonic. Like you’ll die from cuteness. I mean:
  • Inspiring and heartwarming

Here’s one of my favourite scenes to win you over:

Me while watching dream high:

In conclusion:

Dream High 2 why oh why do you have an almost new cast? I’m slowly making my way through it, as it’s just not as addicting as the original. I will give it a shot though! If you’re wondering where you can watch it, I watched it on the DramaFever app, though they also have a website where I believe you can watch it as well (Update: if you watch it on the website the episode will be interrupted quite a few times by ads. Do not recommend).

I hope I have converted all of you. This is the second drama I’ve given a ten on My Drama List (the other being Hana Yori Dango) and it’s definitely a new favourite.
