Us bookworms have a love/hate relationship with adaptations – obviously we want our favourite books on the small/big screen, but if it’s not done right… All hell breaks loose. But do we learn from those disastrous adaptations? Do we become cautious?
Nope we dream of more adaptations! Or at least I do. I spend waaaay too many hours thinking about books that would make great movies, tv shows, video games, musicals and as I will talk about in this post: anime. I might do a second part at some point in the future, but here are five books/series that I would love to see turned into anime.
💛 Geek Girl 💛
Geek Girl would be SUCH a cute and funny shoujo?? Harriet would on one hand be the PERFECT shoujo protagonist as she’s clumsy and can be so oblivious about what’s going on around her, but on the other hand she’d be so refreshing because she is so so flawed but she realises it and grows so much throughout the books. Also cute friendships!! Cute romances!! The most adorable family!! Travelling around the world and shenanigans!! Modelling gone wrong!!Where is my Geek Girl anime I made myself want it so badly now
💛 The Chaos Walking Trilogy 💛
CAN YOU IMAGINE THE BADASS OPENINGS AND MELANCHOLIC ENDINGS BECAUSE I CAN. Especially the ending of season 2 a.k.a. The Ask and the Answer with (select the following text to read the spoiler) Todd and Viola being separated it would be so beautiful yet the ANGST. And you know those terrifying anime villain expressions, with the eyes bulging and the creepy grin (bonus points if they laugh out loud too) I could so imagine mayor Prentiss like that in an anime. The plot and themes are just perfect for an anime – it would work so well. Oh no I just thought of Manchee in anime style rip there goes my heart and soul.
Oh boy this post was not a good idea now I got ANOTHER anime I badly want and will I get it?? Most likely not
💛 Percy Jackson 💛
Okay so the movies failed TERRIBLY like they probably just read the blurbs, thought ‘that sounds cool’ and went with that and now I’m left with a huge hole in my chest that needs to be filled with a good Percy Jackson adaptation and an anime?? Would be GREAT. A western cartoon would be too (like if done by the same team as Avatar). The creatures, magic and all that jazz would cost a lot of money in live action stuff to make it look good, but animated?? That would look SO good. Plus the humour would just work so well – imagine those expressions!!
💛 The Lunar Chronicles 💛
Marissa Meyer’s worldbuilding would look STUNNING in an anime, imagine the music, Thorne is basically an anime character already and just,, it works so well?? That’s all I have to say?? Because it’s been too long since I’ve read this series rip*
* I want to reread SO MANY BOOKS so badly but 1) I have plenty of unread books to read and 2) reading slump rip
💛 Harry Potter 💛
Listen, I love the movies, but I would love a tv show or an anime that follows the books more closely, includes scenes that weren’t that important to the plot and thus left out, develops the characters and relationships better… A tv show would be AMAZING but an anime would be fun too. I just want both to be honest. Can you imagine Draco being turned into a ferret, anime-style?? Iconic. Harry Potter is filled with so many unique characters that are perfect for anime and all the magic would look incredible.
What do you think of my choices? Do you agree with them? Which books would you love to see turned into anime? Let me know in the comments!
Thank you Kayleigh, Makayla and Calliope for tagging me! Go check out all their blogs guys. I’m kind of worried that I won’t be able to come up with answers for all of these, but we’ll see haha.
1) A book that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE had a sequel
My mind is already going blank help. OH CARRY ON. But I don’t just want a sequel. I want prequels too since this takes place in their final year. And then a sequel. I don’t care if it’s just Simon, Baz and Penny hanging out. I need it.
2) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE had a Spin-Off series
Okay but, does it surprise anyone when I say Harry Potter? Because I’m still waiting for a Marauders book series.
3) An author who TOTALLY SHOULD write more books
All of them. Okay not all of them but all my faves. Also it’s time for Rainbow Rowell to publish another book *hint hint* And what is Stephen Chbosky doing? I know Francesca Zappia is writing and hopefully a new book will be out soon. J.K. Rowling and Rick Riordan are busy writing (bless Uncle Rick for bringing out two books every year). Seriously I want more books from all my faves, though I don’t except Rick Riordan to write even MORE every year. The poor man deserves a break.
4) A character who TOTALLY SHOULD’VE ended up with someone else
Whoever that girl was that ended up with Aspen (I forgot her name sorry). She was a cinnamon role and I hate Aspen with a passion. She deserved better (I can’t think of other ships that I didn’t agree with haha)
5) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE ended differently
The Maze Runner trilogy sort of? OH THAT REMINDS ME OF A BETTER OPTION FOR QUESTION 4. BUT SPOILERS. I’M SO PISSED ABOUT IT. Okay spoiler in white: Newt and Teresa deserved better, and Thomas should’ve ended up with one of them #TeamThomesa #TeamNewtMas not #ThomasandBrendaWhateverTheirShipNameIsWhoCaresNotMe Why did two rounded, interesting characters have to die and why did Brenda-I’m-Only-Here-To-Establish-A-Love-Triangle-Wait-What’s-Her-Last-Name get to live
6) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE had a movie franchise
Percy Jackson. What do you mean there are already PJ movies? Hahaha don’t be silly those don’t exist outside of our nightmares*
* No offence to the cast especially Logan Lerman and to the people who enjoyed the movies
7) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE had a TV show
HARRY POTTER. Harry Potter. Harry Potter. And did I mention Harry Potter? They would be able to include SO MUCH MORE if they made it into a tv show. I mean I love the cast, but I need this. I mean obviously I’d also be terrified if they did this but still. I NEED IT.
8) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE only have one point of view
Uuuh I have no idea help
9) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE had a cover change
The Parasol Protectorate series.
I’m just not a fan of these covers. BUT I LOVE THESE BOOKS SO MUCH. Maybe I should do a reread so I can write a post on why you should read these too (they would also make a fab tv show by the way)
10) A book/series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE kept the original covers
I really don’t have an answer for this one
11) A series that TOTALLY SHOULD’VE stopped at book #1
I can’t think of any, so I’m going to steal Kayleigh’s answer and say that The Selection should’ve stopped after The One. I still haven’t read the last two, but I also don’t really have the motivation. The story was over. It was nicely wrapped up. There was no need for more books. I don’t think I’ve heard anything positive about the last two either.
Aaand I won’t be tagging anyone specific again. I’m really sorry, but I’m lazy and looking up who to tag takes quite some time and I’m just trying to get as many posts scheduled as I can (I’m writing this in August. AUGUST. This will go up in October. I’m so proud of myself) but if you want to do this consider yourself tagged!
What are some of your answers to these? What is a tv show or movie adaptation you really want to see? Let me know in the comments!
Quite some time ago I was tagged by Josie from Josie’s Book Corner. Thank you and sorry it took me so long! Because when I say ‘quite some time ago’ I mean like a year woops. Fun fact: I had already started this post, but then forgot or something? I don’t know what happened. Anyway don’t forget to check out her amazing blog!
Phase One: Initial Attraction: A book you bought because of the cover
*laughs maniacally as she looks at all the pretty books on her shelves*
I mean, the cover is the first thing you see, so of course a lot of books’ covers drew me in. BUT! I do not buy a book solely because of it’s cover. I grab something because of the cover, then if the blurb sounds good, I’ll buy it.
Phase Two: First Impressions: A book you got because of the summary
Pretty much every book ever haha.
Phase Three: Sweet Talk: A book with great writing
Thankfully I know quite a few for this category, but I’ll go with The Book Thief, because it is one of my favourite stand-alones (second favourite after The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and it’s beautifully written. Sadly I have the movie cover so it’s not that pretty…
ONE DAY I’LL OWN A PRETTY EDITION.
Phase Four: First Date: A first book of a series which made you want to pursue the rest of the series
Oh gosh so many boooks. Actually not that many. Of course I could go with the expected answer that is Harry Potter, but let’s go with Percy Jackson. I immediately bought the rest of the series when I finished The Lightning Thief.
Phase Five: Late night phone calls: A book that kept you up all night long
Definitely The Ask and the Answer. Not all night long though. I never stay awake that long haha.
Phase Six: Always on my mind: A book that you could not stop thinking about
I couldn’t stop thinking about Carry On for a while after I finished it. I was just so high on Snowbaz feels.
Phase Seven: Getting Physical: A book in which you love the way it feels
Oooh again every book ever. I just love the way books feel and I always pet them.
Phase Eight: Meeting the Parents: A book in which you would recommend to your friends and family
I was going to say Harry Potter, but then I saw the next question. I’m going to go with The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which is my favourite standalone. I’d honestly throw this book at everyone if I didn’t have a no-throwing-books-policy.
Phase Nine: Thinking about the future: A book or series that you know you’ll re-read many times in the future
Does it surprise anyone when I say Harry Potter
Phase Ten: Share the love! Here’s who I am tagging
I don’t know how it happened, but recently I suddenly envisioned Cath from Fangirl as a Pop! Funko and it was the cutest thing. I’d draw it but I’m lazy and it’d take up waaaay to much time (and I don’t have that much time). Inspired by this ‘vision’ though, I decided to list some bookish Pop! Funkos I need in my life that I will probably never get, unless they’re turned into a popular movie/tv show (which would be awesome without the Funkos of course).
Starting with the book that inspired this post, a Cath Pop! Funko would be adorable. Can you imagine little Cath, wearing her Carry On Simon T-shirt and cardigan, a copy of Simon Snow in her hand? ‘Cause I can.
In addition Levi and Reagan would be adorable too, and while I can’t really picture Wren (maybe a reread is due – not that I need an excuse to reread Fangirl) I know she’d be cute as a Pop! Funko
And obviously I need Snowbaz as Pop! Funkos as well. I need them because of reasons. And of course I need Penelope and Agatha to finish the squad (I know almost everyone hates Agatha but I really don’t. Also her Pop! Funko needs her dog Lucy).
Duh. I need my favourite demigods to stand in front of my Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus books. Preferably with cute objects that fit them. Percy with blue pizza in his hand (or other food, as long as it’s blue) and Riptide in the other; Annabeth with her dagger and laptop/a book; Grover I dunno holding a flower? He’d be cute either way; Jason wearing his dorky glasses; Leo with his tool belt and a wrench or other tool in his hand (maybe a flame in his other or is that too much to ask?); Piper with her dagger; Hazel with gems; Nico with a Happy Meal; Frank half transformed in preferably a cute animal like a panda (Frank is like a panda or a teddy bear, don’t fight me on this); Reyna just looking badass, maybe riding her Pegasus Scipio; Rachel holding a paintbrush and the infamous blue hairbrush; and of course Tyson and Ella and… I could go on because I want all the characters (well except Smelly Gabe). BUT HOW AWESOME WOULD THESE BE.
I need the Rampion Crew as Pop! Funko guys (including Iko of course. It was really hard to find good fan art of the entire crew, and for some reason I couldn’t find any with Iko in it. Is it too greedy to ask for android Iko and escort-droid Iko). I need them. Like air (okay not like air or I would’ve died already but you get what I mean). They would make such great, distinctive and adorable Pop! Funkos and I want to cry because unless the books are adapted for film/tv (preferably the latter) they will never exist and I need them. Can we start a petition for bookish Pop! Funkos so that they know they’re in demand and will sell well please. Oh and since they made a Hogwarts Express and the couch from Friends (or they’re making it, I don’t know if it’s out yet) can we get the Rampion itself too.
Shadowhunters has the most chance of getting their own Pop! Funkos because of the tv show. If it does well and becomes more popular, who knows? Obviously the Pops will look like the actors and I’m 100% down for that. THEY’LL BE EVEN MORE ADORABLE. How will they capture Matthew Dadario’s beauty in Pop! Funko form though. Oh and they better not leave out Luke (he’s a main character thank you), Raphael and Lydia.
There are probably a lot more bookish Pop! Funkos that I want (including the new and already existing Harry Potter Pop! Funkos duh), but these were the first ones that came to mind and that I really want. What bookish Pop! Funkos do you need in your life? Let me know in the comments!
Thank you Analee for tagging me! I always thought this tag looked like fun, so now I’m finally doing it! If you’re not familiar with this tag, you have to write down a bunch of characters names and pick two at random without looking. You either ship that couple or rip it. Since I’m lazy I used a random group generator that did all the work for me haha. Let’s take a look at the ships, shall we?
Carswell Thorne + Cress
Don’t you love it when this happens? As you may know I absolutely love Cresswell, so this makes me very happy. Obviously, I ship it.
Percy Jackson + Magnus Bane
I have one word for you: Malec
Wolf + Scarlet Benoit
Once again, don’t you love it when this happens? While I ship Cresswell and Cinder and Kai more (what is there shipname? I thought long and hard about it but… Kainder? That sounds so much like Grindr lol), I love Wolf and Scarlet together. I ship it
Kai + Annabeth Chase
You know, I actually really like this. If I put Percabeth and Kaindr (lol) out of my mind, I really like this. I think they’re pretty compatible. Annabeth and Cinder have quite some things in common, and so do Kai and Percy, so I think they’d hit it off.
But only if Percy and Cinder don’t exist.
Simon Snow + Hermione Granger
Since Penelope is a lot like Hermione, I think Simon and Hermione would be great friends, but I don’t think it would ever be more than that. I ship their friendship but I rip their romance
Isabelle Lightwood + Alec Lightwood
I do wonder why I put Magnus and Alec in the generator if I was going to go ‘nope Malec’ anyway? I sometimes don’t understand my own brain. But this was a lot of fun! I loved that two out of three Lunar Chronicles ships were put together automatically.
Because this is fun and you should all do this. Not at all because I’m too lazy to tag people
Do you ship any of these ships? I hope you don’t ship the last one…
It has happened guys. The zombies have risen. Grab your wands. It’s time for war.
Just kidding. The zombies aren’t here (yet)! But I did get tagged by Kayleigh from Miserable and Magical (thank you!) to do The Zombie Apocalypse tag. Sorry it took me so long!
1) Pick any five books randomly (or not randomly, your choice)
2) The first name you see when you flip open the book on a random page, will be the person who is the answer to the question.
3) Each of the books must answer two questions.
My five books:
1) Made You Up by Francesca Zappia
2) The Maze Runner by James Dashner
3) Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
4) The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas
5) The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan
1) The first person to die? (Made You Up)
I’M REALLY SCARED TO OPEN THE BOOK BECAUSE I DON’T WANT ANYONE TO DIE. EXCEPT MCCOY. I WILL GLADLY SACRIFICE HIM TO THE ZOMBIES.
WHY MILES. NOT MILES. CAN I TRADE HIM FOR MCCOY
2) The person you trip to get away from the zombies? (The Maze Runner)
Okay so at first I misread this and thought that Thomas tripped me. I was already getting mad and making jokes about it. I CAN’T BELIEVE I TRIPPED THOMAS. WHY WOULD I DO THAT. I mean we’re talking The Maze Runner Thomas, I like Maze Runner Thomas. Now if it were Scorch Trials Thomas, I’d trip, ’cause he was kind of annoying in that one.
3) The first person to turn into a zombie? (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban)
NO NOT HERMIONE. WHY ARE ALL THE BAD STUFF HAPPENING TO THE GOOD GUYS
4) The person that trips YOU to get away from the zombies? (The Assassin’s Blade)
5) The idiot of the team? (The Mark of Athena)
Jason. Well if Jason is the idiot of the team (and he’s not really an idiot, in my opinion) then that means my team is pretty smart!
6) The “brains” of the team? (Made You Up)
Celia. Forget what I said at 5.
I may or may not be screwed. Damn, I was hoping for Alex or Tucker (I’d be hoping for Miles if he wasn’t the first one to die *eternal sobbing*).
7) The team’s medic? (The Maze Runner)
Thomas. Okay Thomas, if you’re our medic, you really shouldn’t trip people.
8) The weapons expert? (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban)
Harry. Well, he’s an expert with his wand! (oh my wizardgod that sounded so wrong). I mean, he’s really good at DADA.
9) The brawler? (The Assassin’s Blade)
Celaena. No surprise there.
10) The team captain? (The Mark of Athena)
Percy! I think Percy would make a great captain.
You know, Celia might be the ‘brains’ of the team (we don’t even really know if she’s smart or not. I won’t go into it, because SPOILERS) and Thomas might trip me and Arobynn might trip me (but it’s not like any of us trusted him. Besides we’ll just feed him to zombie Hermione), but the rest of my team is pretty good. I do wish that Miles didn’t die and Hermione didn’t become a zombie though. Not just because I love them, but I think we could really use them.
I think I’d survive with Percy as my captain, Celaena as our brawler, Harry as our weapon expert, Thomas as our medic (if he stops TRIPPING. PEOPLE) and Arobynn as our sacrifice to get on the zombies’ good side. I’M GONNA SURVIVE THE APOCALYPSE GUYS (except for the tiny detail that none of these guys actually exist).
Genre: Fantasy Category: Middle Grade My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Kane Chronicles is about two siblings, Carter and Sadie Kane. After their Dad blows up an important Egyptian artefact, their lives change completely: apparently they’re descendants of ancient pharaos and on top of that they’re magicians. They have to figure out how to save their dad, who has been kidnapped by the evil god Set, stop Set from rising to power and save the world. Set is the least of their problems though…
I did my best writing a summary that doesn’t reveal too much. It’s mostly a summary for The Red Pyramid, but hey, I can’t really summarize the other two without giving too much away!
The Kane Chronicles aren’t as well known as Percy Jackson and the Olympians, but it should be. Do I prefer Percy over The Kane Chronicles? Yes, but we’ll get to that later.
If you love Rick Riordan’s writing style, than you will love The Kane Chronicles. It’s not as funny as Percy Jackson or Heroes of Olympus, but I did laugh out loud quite a few times, smiled or snorted. There were some puns so lame that they were brilliant. There were baboons who loved to play basketball. There was witty banter between several characters. Also Sadie Kane who is one of my new favourite heroines. And can we appreciate the Dalek mention in The Serpent’s Shadow? Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
The best thing about these books though, is that before it’s about magic, gods, monsters, demons, saving the world, romance… It’s about siblings. There just aren’t enough books that focus on the relationship between siblings and that’s a shame. The relationship between Carter and Sadie grows so beautifully and in the end they state that their sibling is the closest person to them. Not their love interest, no, their sibling. Can I get a hell yeah?
Besides Sadie and Carter, there are so many amazing characters. As I stated before, Sadie is my new favourite heroine. She’s tough, but she isn’t afraid to cry. She’s sassy and witty and she’s human and she’s loving and I just love Sadie okay? The only thing I didn’t like about her was that she was involved in a love triangle. Now, it wasn’t such a bad love triangle, but I just felt it was a bit unnecessary and I saw how it was going to end coming (though I was only joking. Did you know that whenever I joke about a plot twist, that plot twist actually comes true? Like I WAS JOKING). Also, I still don’t really understand how the ending of that love triangle works but oh well.
Unlike Percy Jackson, The Kane Chronicles are written as if they were recorded by Carter and Sadie on a recorder. Riordan wrote these down and in the beginning of the books he gives a warning and in his author’s note he says that either they did their research right or everything they say is true, which to him is really scary. This made it more real and I loved this little thing. The two siblings sometimes interrupt each other while telling the story, which is also amusing.
I don’t know much about Egyptian mythology, but I loved how Riordan intertwined the myths into this story and into our modern world. I also loved how Carter and Sadie became really good friends with some gods, almost like family. It’s a nice change from the Olympians in Percy’s world. By the way, loved the minor references to Percy Jackson. It just made me smile.
Besides the love triangle, the only problem I had with the books is that they felt a bit repetitive. It was like all three books had the same basic story line. Though it was still enjoyable I felt like they were more predictable than the other two series. Just like with Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus, I flew through these books though and I absolutely adore them.
You should read these books if you like:
💛 Percy Jackson and/or The Heroes of Olympus 💛 Egyptian mythology 💛 Sibling relationships 💛 Found family 💛 Dry humor 💛 Puns so bad they’re funny
Have you read The Kane Chronicles yet? Are you planning to? What did you think?
Genre: Fantasy Category: Middle grade Series: Heroes of Olympus #5 Goodreads rating: 4.41 My rating:
Though the Greek and Roman crewmembers of the Argo II have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen—all of them—and they’re stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood—the blood of Olympus—in order to wake.
The demigods are having more frequent visions of a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The Roman legion from Camp Jupiter, led by Octavian, is almost within striking distance. Though it is tempting to take the Athena Parthenos to Athens to use as a secret weapon, the friends know that the huge statue belongs back on Long Island, where it “might” be able to stop a war between the two camps.
The Athena Parthenos will go west; the Argo II will go east. The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea’s army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes, it is game over.
First of all I want to express my love for the cover. I’ve always preferred the US to the UK editions (though I own all the UK editions with Son of Neptune being an exception), but this time I actually prefer the UK one. I know there has been a lot of criticism, but I think it’s gorgeous (especially Gaia who I’m sorry you can’t see in my picture) and all seven are on the cover, which is a big plus. Besides, I wanted my copy signed and if I had to get a signed copy from the US, not only would that have cost me more (shipping costs), it would have taken a lot longer to arrive. I can’t wait that long!
Note: This review will be split into two parts: one without any spoilers and one with major spoilers
Review without spoilers
It took me a while to finish this one, even though the other books in the series (and the original) took me three days at most. The thing is, I wanted to devour this book, but also savour it. Do you see my problem? I started reading Percy Jackson in my first year of secondary school, and now it’s my senior year and I’ve just finished TheBlood of Olympus and I can’t properly function. It’s Harry Potter all over again, guys. Ugh.
But above paragraph doesn’t tell you much, does it? This book had its flaws, I guess. I’ve been going through the TheBlood of Olympus tag on Tumblr and immediately stopped as people were kind of bashing the book and it made me upset, haha. Yes, I’m also disappointed that Percy, Annabeth, Frank and Hazel didn’t get a POV but it didn’t ruin the book for me. Besides, have you guys heard? Percy Jackson’s Greek Heroes! At least my childhood is not as over as it seemed, haha. A lot of people also felt like it was rushed, especially the big fight at the end, but I’ll discuss that in my spoiler part of the review. And people talked badly about Reyna. Do not talk badly about Reyna or I will hunt you down.
The Blood of Olympus has five POVs: Jason, Piper, Leo, Reyna and Nico. I loved that the last book in the series ends with the POVs of the original trio of Heroes of Olympus. Reyna and Nico’s povs were a perfect addition. I love Nico even more than I already did and I just wanted to hug him throughout the entire book. He went through so much character development and I’m so proud of him. I loved Reyna before, but now she’s one of my favourite characters. She is just so badass.
What I probably loved the most was all the relationship developments throughout the book, especially Annabeth and Piper. They were already best friends in Mark of Athena, but now they’re even closer. I love Percy and Jason’s bromance and Percy and Leo finally sort of bonded.
‘Like your zodiac sign?’ Percy asked. ‘I’m a Leo.’ ‘No, stupid,’ Leo said. ‘I’m a Leo. You’re a Percy.’
This still cracks me up days later. Also, Frank, Hazel and Leo friendship – yes! The Percabeth moments were adorable, but you should read those for yourself. I’m not going to spoil those. This book teared me up, made me smile, squeal and gave me so many emotions that I can’t describe. Now, on to the spoiler part. If you haven’t finished the book yet, stop reading now.
Review with spoilers
I want to start with the big fight at the end, since I’ve seen a lot of people complain that it was too easy and too fast. Yes, once the gods arrived the giants were easily defeated. But guys, let’s take a moment to remember the past fights with the giants. It took the seven some time to defeat them, but once a god decided to step in and help, the giant was easily defeated. This time, the gods just decided to interfere a bit sooner, since they understood that no matter how awesome their children are, even they can’t fight about thirty giants and a bunch of monsters all at once without their parents’ help. Yes, after that, Gaia was easily defeated, but can’t things be easy for once?
You know what really made me happy? The gods having some quality time with their kids. So what if that quality time was spent in a creepy church with skeletons or fighting giants side by side. I teared up when Hades told Nico that he wanted to see him happy. Or when Jason told Zeus he just wanted to spend time with him. Or Aphrodite kissing Piper. I loved it so much.
I don’t know about you guys, but I didn’t know how much I had missed Apollo until he appeared again. He’s such a dramaqueen – I love him. I’d probably hate his guts if I knew him in real life, but I can’t help loving fictional characters like Apollo.
And can we just talk about how badass Hylla is? It definitely runs in the family. I mean, she just flips an entire car towards Orion and later on she tosses Orion, a giant several blocks down the street. Talk about super strenght.
Last but not least (there’s a lot more I’d want to talk about, but I don’t want to make this review too long and so much happened and I loved so many things, that I honestly don’t remember everything) everyone got a happy ending. Maybe not realistic, but these kids went through so much. Percy and Annabeth can finally spend time together and they can peacefully live their lives in New Rome. Frank and Hazel are no longer nobodies in New Rome. Jason has finally found peace with the whole Greek-Roman thing and he and Piper are happy. Leo has found his way back to Calypso (now find your way back to your best friends who are desperately telling themselves that you’re not dead). Reyna has made a lot of friends and the possibility of taking a break of being a Praetor. And Nico no longer has to hide who he is. He’s finally at home with a possibility of being happy (anyone here shipping Solangelo?). Thank you Uncle Rick, for giving these characters what they deserve and helping me through my childhood and teenage years. Thank you so much.
Have you read The Blood of Olympus yet? What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments!
Genre: Fantasy Category: Middle grade Series: Standalone, but part of the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus universe Goodreads rating: 4.53 My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A publisher in New York asked me to write down what I know about the Greek gods, and I was like, “Can we do this anonymously? Because I don’t need the Olympians mad at me again.” But if it helps you to know your Greek gods, and survive an encounter with them if they ever show up in your face, then I guess writing all this down will be my good deed for the week.
So begins Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods, in which the son of Poseidon adds his own magic—and sarcastic asides—to the classics. He explains how the world was created, then gives readers his personal take on a who’s who of ancients, from Apollo to Zeus. Percy does not hold back. “If you like lots of lying, stealing, backstabbing, and cannibalism, then read on, because it definitely was a Golden Age for all that.”
Dramatic full-color illustrations throughout by Caldecott Honoree John Rocco make this volume—a must for home, library, and classroom shelves—as stunning as it is entertaining.
When Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods came out last Tuesday I immediately went out to buy it, but unfortunately I couldn’t find the version I wanted and got stuck with the UK version. Of course I could’ve waited, or ordered it, but I just couldn’t wait. I mean, it’s Percy Jackson, Rick Riordan, Greek myths… How could I wait?
If you’re a fan of Rick Riordan, I’m pretty sure you will love this book. It’s an introduction to the Olympians, but told by Percy. This means that it’s sarcastic, funny and there are a lot of references to modern day things like American Idol, Doctor Who etc. If you’re looking for a new Percy Jackson story, this is not the book for you. It’s like a schoolbook about the Greek myths, but only so much better.
I gave this book five stars, but there were flaws. I’m pretty sure that Percy ‘wrote’ the book after the Heroes of Olympus series (which would mean Percy survives Blood of Olympus!), since he mentions ‘my friend Piper’ and I doubt he has time writing the book during Heroes of Olympus, but when he wrote about the horse Arion, he doesn’t mention Hazel. Which is really weird, since he was there when she freed him from the Amazons. Not to mention no mention of Thalia and Jason in Zeus’ chapter (especially the fact that Thalia wasn’t mentioned at all annoyed me), no Nico in Hades’ chapter or any of his other friends. Obviously he mentions Annabeth and Grover, but why does he mention Piper and not Thalia, who is a closer friend? I just found that a bit odd.
Another thing that I thought strange, was that Percy claimed that the story about Hestia giving up her throne for Dionysus was false, when Hestia clearly told him in The Last Olympian that she did just that.
But apart from these little things mentioned above, I loved this book with all my heart and devoured it. I really do recommend it. I laughed out loud so many times. I mean: ‘Hey, girl, you must be the riptide, ’cause you sweep me of my feet.’ Smooth, Poseidon, smooth. And there are so many more jokes and pick-up lines and references that are just pure gold.
Are you planning on reading Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods? Or if you’ve already read it, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!
