A Not So Quick Update From Manchester: I Continue To Be A Cryptid

Sooo things didn’t exactly go as planned. It’s February and I haven’t wrapped up anything 2017 related, I’m pretty sure I’ve missed three monthly wrap ups and while I wanted to write at least weekly posts about Manchester I uh failed that too

I’ve been busy adjusting, exploring Manchester, my best friend stayed with me for a week, I was busy watching Netflix, and uh got caught up in trying to figure out my family tree, something I’ve tried to do multiple times over the years but I never got that far. Meaning I didn’t get anywhere. I’ve decided to put things on hold as it was giving me quite a headache to get farther as I hit a bump in the road. Of course at the point which I’ve been most curious about pretty much my entire life, namely my great great great (? I’m terrible at ‘great great great’ stuff it’s so confusing) grandmother who was Indonesian. Of course that makes it a lil bit harder to find stuff out because ya know colonisation. But hey at least I found out what my great grandfather was called, something my grandfather didn’t know as he just always referred to him as ‘opa’ (which is Dutch for grandfather) so at least I could tell my grandfather what his grandfather was called. I’ll try to find out more when I get back home.

I’ve been slowly getting back into blogging (I’ve been reading a few blog posts!!) and I’m starting to get excited about blogging again, so hopefully I’ll be able to write some posts soon (I do have a review coming up for an ARC so I felt enough pressure to get started on that)

So with those excuses out of the way, let’s hope I won’t disappear again after this lol If I do I’m just gonna pretend that didn’t happen okay? Just pretend with me I don’t want to write a post like this every few weeks haha

Some other things I did/happened to me I want to share:

💛 I cut my finger open on a box of washing powder, got a piece of my phone’s screen protector stuck in my thumb and my other thumb started bleeding randomly MY FINGERS ARE NOT SAFE
💛 For the first time in what’s probably three years I’m borrowing books from a library?? It’s been even longer that I actually borrowed books that I actually wanted to read. The uni library doesn’t have THAT much fiction I want to read but it’s something and I feel so blessed is this how American bookworms feel
💛 Today was the first time I saw one of my housemates in like,, 2 weeks
💛 So basically I’m continuing to be a cryptid*
💛 In my defense my social anxiety just gets a lil bit too bad to go out in the kitchen/living room while there are people there, especially more than one
💛 But other than the usual (social) anxiety that honestly should’ve been expected but I didn’t really think about before coming here (which is a good thing because I might not have gone if I had) I think I’m doing pretty okay? I’ve gotten adjusted to things, gotten my routine and am less homesick
💛 My friend and I went to the refresher’s fair mostly because we were promised free pizza but we got one tiny slice #betrayed
💛 I uh… I bought more plushies *hides*
💛 I will show them in their respective posts (well, one of them hasn’t arrived yet) but hint: it’s Stitch dressed as the Easter Bunny and a super cute Dobby**
💛 The fire alarm goes off pretty much every week and lemme tell you it is not fun I get a panic attack everytime and apparently fire alarms are now a trigger for me because I had to mute B99 when the fire alarm went off on there!!
💛 Speaking of B99 have I mentioned before how grateful I am for this show it does wonders for my mental health really as most of the time it can make me feel better so guess who’s rewatching
💛 I found my precious seaweed rice crackers at a supermarket in Chinatown, gasped and started to whisper sing ‘Hallelujah’ – I really hope the guy behind the counter didn’t notice
💛 I’m still not cooking because the kitchen is still gross but I cleaned the oven (which was also gross!!) so at least I can get oven meals like quiche and spring rolls
💛 I also finally caved and became Cinderella and vacuumed the hallway, kitchen and living room because I couldn’t stand it any longer
💛 Today I suddenly heard someone vacuum the hallway??? It wasn’t me?? Shook

*  I just realised that I’ve kind of been a cryptid in the blogosphere as well *mind blown*
** I mean obviously Dobby is always cute but have you seen the official Dobby plush?? I’m sorry but no

Wow that list was a lot longer than I expected. Anyway, I’m going to Oxford tomorrow with my friend through the International Society, so hopefully I won’t be too tired on Sunday so that I can write a few posts, as I really really want to

How have you all been?? Any exciting news?? Posts you’re proud of that I MUST read? (Please give links!) Tell me everything!!

What I’ve Been Up To

Hey guys! It’s been a while but I’m finally (sort of) back. I still have a sort of presentation on Thursday that I need to prepare for, but hopefully I’m done after that (depends on whether or not I passed everything). So what have I been up to since my last weekly wrap up?

The reason why I decided to take a hiatus. I first started the hiatus to focus on my analysis about the Chibok girls who were kidnapped two years ago by Boko Haram. I got a nine (in The Netherlands our grades go from 1 to 10) and my teacher said it was ‘vakwerk’ which means ‘craftsmanship’ so obviously I’m very happy with that. While I was writing it, some girls were thankfully found or rescued, so hopefully soon all girls will be reunited with their families and friends.

I’ve also had other assignments to work on and exams to study for. I don’t have a great feeling about my research exam (which started great because my laptop froze within the first minute – it always works fine but it chose THAT MOMENT to betray me. Thanks laptop), but as my mom said ‘I’ve done my best’ (that doesn’t mean that I’m okay with it, but I shouldn’t get all depressed until I get my grade back). So if it turns out research went well anyway, I’ll be done after my ‘presentation’ this Thursday. It’s not really a presentation, but I don’t know what else to call it haha.

My days have been a bit of a blur, with only a few moments standing out to me. Two weeks ago my  mom and I went to ‘Totally Stripped’, an event in Paradiso (a music venue), where they showed an old concert from The Rolling Stones. When we got there I noticed a poster with Douwe Bob, so my mom took a picture for me to send to Em, who is a big fan

So I sent this picture to her and we were inside, sitting on some stairs, when my mom suddenly said: ‘Douwe is here’ so I looked up and he was only a few meters away from me, moving in the other direction. At that moment the video was starting, so obviously we didn’t want to bother him. Sadly he left early so there was no opportunity to go ask him for a picture haha. If you want to know more about the story, go read my tweets (tweets from June 2nd, I’ve barely tweeted this month so it shouldn’t be that hard to find if you’re curious haha) about how I was basically stalking him lol (Douwe if you come across this I’m sorry I hope it wasn’t my glancing that made you leave early)

It was also my birthday last week! I can’t believe I’ve been 19 for a full week already. Fun fact: I had to fill in my age somewhere on my birthday and of course I first clicked on 18. Unfortunately I had deadlines on my birthday (thanks teachers), but fortunately I had already finished everything during the weekend. I still had my exams left, but at least I didn’t have to worry about missing a deadline. Because of school I didn’t really get to celebrate it, but my mom and a friend of hers did give me these adorable Tsum Tsums that I’ll share with you later this week along with other birthday gifts. I didn’t feel like blogging all day and now it’s too dark to take proper pictures. We celebrated with family last Saturday, which was fun. At the end of the afternoon I took my nephew to the playground. He wanted me to climb too, but it was hard since I was wearing a dress and flip flops haha.

When I sent that selfie in our family group chat on Whatsapp they all made a selfie and sent one back haha (without my poor grandfather who was on the toilet missing out on all the fun). In the second pic we we were on these small bikes, which I was waaay too big for so when he started to pedal really fast, I almost fell off.

What I’ve Read

In my last weekly wrap up I was still reading Uprooted, which I finally finished this weekend. It took me over a month, and I’m honestly not sure how I feel about it. Hopefully I’ll get around to reviewing it soon. In the meantime I had also started All The What Ifs by Angela Lynn, which was a fun read. The two books I finished after that (Introductions by C.L. Stone and Forever by Eric Marier) were less fun. And right now I’m FINALLY reading The Hidden Oracle. I was still reading Uprooted when it came out, and since I barely had the time or energy to read, I decided to put it off.

Hopefully I’ll be able to blog quite a lot this week, but I do need to prepare for Thursday (it shouldn’t be that much work – and I’ve done a lot worse in such a short time span this year) and I’m exhausted. I’m full with lots of exciting blog posts ideas and I can’t wait to catch up with you all and stalk your blogs, but I might just rest for a few days, depending on how I’m feeling. I’m already feeling more energetic than yesterday (I was a zombie. Not literally. Don’t worry, my mom’s brains are safe. For now)

So what have you all been up to?! Are you almost done with school? What have you been reading? Any blog posts that I MUST read? Let me know in the comments!

I’m Still Here – A Life Update

Hey guys, so I kind of disappeared both on here and on your blogs, so I decided to write a small post to let you guys know I haven’t completely disappeared from the blogosphere and that I’m (sort of fine). I’ve been really busy, stressed and exhausted, so even if I could’ve blogged, say, late at night, I just couldn’t find the energy. While I’m going to publish my Shadowhunters review later today (if I don’t I’ve fallen asleep. Seriously, I went to bed at 8 PM yesterday) and I’ll hopefully post episode 11’s review later this week as well, I’m probably going to mostly absent until next week. I might read your posts and comment, but I’m not going to promise anything.

So how have you all been? I seriously miss all of you so I can’t wait to get back into the blogosphere, but I really need to focus on school and my health right now.

A Quick Update!

Hey guys! So I finished my exams yesterday and planned on writing blog posts all day to get them scheduled, but I underestimated how exhausted I would be once I got home. Hopefully I’ll get some blogging done today!

I think I passed all my exams (at least I hope so!) and now I have some time off before the next term begins, which means I have plenty of time to catch up on reading blog posts.

I’ll probably schedule some posts first, and then I’ll start reading! I hope you’ve all been well in my sort of hiatus <3

Well, unofficially. We still have the presentation of our magazine this Thursday, BUT I DON’T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING

THAT’S RIGHT GUYS NO SCHOOL OR SCHOOLWORK FOR ME FOR OVER A WEEK (except for Thursday. But Thursday should be fun)

If you don’t follow me on Twitter, or if you missed it, here’s what our magazine looks like:

With our magazine we want to show the world that disabled people aren’t their disabilities. It’s not actually going to be published, but I still think it’s important!

BUT ANYWAY I DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT A THING. EXCEPT NANOWRIMO. But I’m not going to worry about that, it’s supposed to be fun! I never got to do NaNo before as I always had a testweek in November, but now my exams were in October so I should be able to do it! Hopefully haha. If you’re also doing NaNo, add me as a writing buddy and watch me fail! Just kidding. I hope to at least finish translating The Army of Quermo into English (of course I’d love to finish it too, but I do have school to worry about!)

Let’s hope no troll ruins your party!

I’m going to the Amsterdam Dungeon with my mom and cousin tonight, which should be fun! I wonder if they added something new since the last time I was there (this will be my eighth time haha). I’m not sure how I’ll dress yet, though I think it will be Harry Potter related!

Anyway! These coming days of freedom I will read a lot of blogs and write some blog posts myself (and of course participate in NaNo)! I want to schedule plenty so that I won’t have to disappear again. Tomorrow I’ll finally do another weekly wrap up, in which I’ll tell you guys more about what happened these past few weeks (I think it will be a wrap up for the last three weeks? It has been too long!). Oh hey! Tomorrow will be November, so I guess I’ll combine my weekly wrap up with the monthly one!

What are you guys going to do for Halloween? Or what did you do if the day is already over? Are you participating in NaNo? Let me know in the comments!

Have No Fear I’m Still Here

So…. My last post was on October 5th. I didn’t even do a weekly wrap up (after boasting about the fact I hadn’t missed one yet- HA. Irony).

I’ve not just been incredibly busy (just when I had recovered from my cold and felt excited to regularly blog again, school interfered), I’ve been exhausted. There have been plenty of times I could’ve grabbed my laptop to write a post, but I just wasn’t feeling it. I needed to lie down and do…Well, not much. I’ve watched some shows (GUESS WHO’S FINALLY CAUGHT UP ON DOCTOR WHO AND READY TO WATCH TONIGHT), read a bit and replayed Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney because I’M SO HYPED FOR ACE ATTORNEY 6 AND THE ANIME GUYS (*she screams loudly on her book/writing blog at book/writing bloggers haha*). ALSO SHADOWHUNTERS HSABFJHADF. I started rereading City of Bones (while I’m still reading The Silkworm woops) because I’m just so excited. THOSE TEASERS AND TRAILERS AND SNEAK PEEKS

But yeah, I haven’t really felt like blogging (or reading blogs) lately. I’m not sure when exactly I’ll be regularly active again, but I just wanted to let you guys know I’m okay.

So… What have you guys been up to since the last time I blogged? Anything important/exciting I missed? Or just anything you want to share? Let me know!
